Zoo Tycoon Zoo tycoon: A complete disappointment

I just created this account because i am so completely upset with what i am staring at on my television. I downloaded the demo for zoo tycoon on my xbox 360. I had NO idea that they had created this game and five minutes into the demo I am beyond in love. I felt no need to look up any reviews or any sort of information because I had such trust in the zoo tycoon name. I went ahead and spent 50 dollars on what I thought was a completely fun and new way to play zoo tycoon. If i had known what i know now, i would NOT HAVE PURCHASED THE GAME. I only have myself to blame for not looking up to see if this once perfect game title had been slashed and gutted because quite honestly I EXPECTED it to be off in someways. Being both a pc and console gamer, i could never expext a strictly pc game to be effortlessly transferred into a console game. But i expected more than this. I had such hopes for this game and i tried so hard to like it. Even once i found out that the 360 version is pretty much a pricey demo, i still had hope.i can understand it being an xbox one release and im grateful they made it for the 360 at all, so the animal number being cut in half on the 360 version was something i was willing to look over until i bought an xbox one and the xbox one zoo tycoon. But the layout of this game is just too terrible. Placing individual trees and moving animals into different exhibits is enough work to make you wanna turn off the game. And the fact that my zoo lot is so huge yet i cant even fill it up because of my
Zoo limit is just ridiculous. Zoo limit needs to go. Who thought that was a good idea? How could a company literally remake a game, do the opposite of what made game amazing ( CUSTOMIZATION ), and then ignore the thousnds of people asking what happened? As far as im concerned I wont be buying an xbox one until zoo tycoon is ON POINT. This thread will most likely be ignored by moderators, as is every other thread pointing out zoo tycoons obvious flaws. Not apologizing for the rudeness of my post because its extremely rude of microsoft to release a game they probably knew was going to **** people off, and then iignore everyones cries of anguish and focus on their other devolpments. I never complain or write reviews about anything because most things i can find a solid middle ground with. That goes the most for videogames, if anyone can actually enjoy a bad game its me. But this is just too much. I would purchase a dlc pack if it fixed the zoo limit. Oh also, was it really so hard to let us create our own exhibits? I mean come on.. At least let us put down the fencing after that just pick what type of exhibit it is. Tundra savanna etc. Oh wait, that couldnt work because the zoo limit bar would ****ing explode and the game would probably explode too. How can you mess up zoo tycoon. U G H.

You do understand the 360 has a smaller allowed map space. To me this game is awesome, its finally got some realism and although I do wish you could put more in a zoo im pretty happy with it overall I do understand why they got the zoo limit because I for one love playing with zero lag. Its much better then zt2 even with zt2 having all its usermade content which is just ridiculous by the way. I've always felt like people with designing know how have tooken advantage of BF and created nice things while at the same time ripping BF off of everything else that is the complicated stuff like behaviors, animations, and coding. It would be different if they created their own game from scratch.

My only problem with your post (not being a Zoo Tycoon player) is that you're wrong about your post being ignored by moderators or even the developers. Frontier are a handson bunch I expect they'll reply to your post by tomorrow.

Best of luck to you and I'm sure Frontier will take your view into consideration and listen to your individual problems. I appreciate your disappointment and I'm sure they'll take your criticisms on board and address the concerns you have.

They're a good bunch of people and I'm sure they'll be sorry your expectations weren't met.

I'd like to believe you but there hasn't been any responses to issues that players have been bringing up here. Maybe two or three responses from moderators since the game's release last year.

I'm not familiar with Frontier. I had to look them up on Wikipedia and I see that they're working on a project that they've been working on for a while and that's great. So I understand that they're busy. But with no acknowledgment of this corner of their forums, I still can't help but feel let down that they'd ignore some of their other customers too.

I agree with waffles.... It has been seen since the release of zoo tycoon 3 that frontier does not care about people playing one of their games unless the game is Elite. I would love for them to prove me wrong.

PM Ashley Barley, Community Manager, and ask for some assistance.

The mods have nothing to do with Frontier bar moderate the forums - they are not developers; FD Staff; nor have anything to do with the product except to ensure the people who come here on this forum behave.

Disclaimer: I don't know real situation but I can guess what's happened

Frontier Developments are guys who developed the game. Zoo limits however are most likely set to get best performance out of the game (which was 1080p/60fps). This decision can only be made by Microsoft XBox One QA team, so I doubt that FD is at fault here. I suggest to contact Microsoft XBox One games publisher contact if you want to get any clarification on Zoo limit.

Sorry - had to jump on board here. Posts about this very problem have been either ignored entirely or had very sparse replies. For example one such post has had ONE reply in the past several weeks.....

One post about the zoo limit hasn't had one reply from either Frontier or the moderators in over two months ( except a moderator making one post to ask people to be more civil ). It is obvious that the Zoo Tycoon forums are being monitored to a degree - it is also obvious that Frontier are avoiding the subject of Zoo limits and the problems it is creating like the plague. Sorry JeffRyan - your argument in regards to the ZT forums just does not hold up. The evidence is there for anyone to see.

I agree with Waffles completely - good game - shame about the crippling Zoo limit.

I think its a pretty simple explanation. Either you can fill more of your zoo map with less graphics or you can have really good graphics and rendering like the game currently has. Me personally I'll take the less space with good graphics. Thats why I prefer this game over zt2. No lag and awesome animals with realistic animations and behaviors. I have the xbox one version and im pretty satisfied with the limit. More would be great if possible but if it cost graphics please make it optional. Personally I'd be happier with lots of dlc and hopefully more exhibits aswell.

Extremely Disappointed!

I was really excited for zoo tycoon! Than I bought it..... So disappointed!!!! There's only a few different species of animal. It's no where near as fun as zoo tycoon for PC was! I also hate that in free form mode there is a build limit. So once you reach the build limit you have to be done. Blue fang made a way better zoo tycoon and I'm extremely disappointed. Wasted a good $60. I also want there to be a marine mania and Dino digs like the PC version had!

Guys, give it some time.
The game is just a couple of months old and you already want big pieces of DLC like Dinosaur Digs or Marine Mania?

For comparison:
Zoo Tycoon 2 launched at November 2004
While the first DLC (Endangered Species) launched on November 2005
African Adventure launched at June 2006.
Marine Mania launched some months later on October 2006
Extinct Animals also launched a year after MM on October 2007.

So it shouldn't be a surprise it could take longer for Frontier or Microsoft to make such expansions. Blue Fang also took their time so what is exactly the problem?

And still, it is Zoo Tycoon a game well known for its expansion packs.
Sure we will see some in the future, we already got two free animals :)

That would only be true if all the animals were in your view at once in full resolution. But this never happens, the graphics scale down as you zoom out and your zoom out distance is limited.
In first person view the amount seen on the screen is also limited.

Other games have already proven that xbox one can easily handle the graphics which is mostly handled by the graphics card.

The issue is whether or not it can handle the simulation which is handled by the processor. The same simulation exist on the pc versions and you can make very large maps with tons of simulated characters. And that amount of simulation can be handled on low end pcs with single and dual core CPUs, xbox one has 8.

The only problem I could see why the limit exist is purely for multiplayer, since that simulation data would have to be sent back and forth between systems and that could cause lag

The way I see it, comparing the new Zoo Tycoon to the older games is essentially the same as comparing The Sims PC version to the console version. The PC version has virtually no limits, where as the console version does. The Sims was the same way with the "fire hazard meter". This version of Zoo Tycoon also gives what the console version of The Sims 2 game which was a direct control option, where you could actually see your character and play directly as them rather than just tell them what to do. Next, there was a campaign mode which didn't offer much but was still fun to go through and finally, you get to play it on a console rather than the PC... Now, I always personally enjoyed the console versions of The Sims more than the PC versions, which is why I enjoyed this game more than the PC versions. However, many people are not like me in that respect and would prefer a more classic style approach.

If you want the full experience, though, the Xbox One version does offer a little bit more... not sure if it would help you change your mind, but... it's worth a shot if you own or are planning to get an Xbox One. :)

I also enjoyed what they did with the sim titles for consoles later with the sims 3 they started to bring more objective type gameplay from consoles to the pc, like world adventures expansion.

But at the time they ported the sims, the consoles simply couldn't handle the same sandbox mode, so they the made the best of it. So yeah with xbox 360 only having 512 MB of ram of course it couldn't be an exact port.

But now with the next gen systems they are finally able to handle most if not all of the pc titles out now, without having strip away all their features.

I hope this doesn't become a trend in pc ports just for accessibility rather than past limits in hardware.

I agree, the Low Zoo Limit is the major problem with the game as it stands - eliminate that and everything else that is going on in the game is just fine.

Ive got to say I read the staying away from frontier post and wanted to say my two cents. I know you said it doesn't serve a purpose but I paid original price for this game so I'll say what I got to say. I admit I thought this was going to be the best zoo tycoon game ever. In a way it was the potential was mind boggling. But its too bad Microsoft and frontier didn't seem to care or think so. I just got to say if nothing is going to be done to better this game please sell to someone who will. Lets face it zoo tycoon friends was a terrible idea and a slap to the face of xbox buyers. Please make an attempt to add to this game and make a good game better.

Hmmm bought this for my son and hes not very happy that there are so few different types of animals and he has already came up to this ridiculous zoo limit as well. He was asking if there are any crocodiles or zebras. It seems to be a very limited game. Considering the price of these XBOX One games are usually double the price of a typical PC game as well its pretty lousy, luckily I think we got this one at a vastly reduced second hand price. We will be very careful what we buy on XBOX One from now on. I thought XBOX One was an advanced console capable of near PC quality games - looks like I was wrong.
