Zoo Tycoon and its influence/legacy on E:D

Legacy is - they can create quite good looking humans, awesome animals and that's just for kiddie game. And ohh, they have engine who can handle that.

I know ZT gets some loathing due of size limit (possibly MS QA inflicted), and simplistic menus (for me they seem to be very ok for console game). Still, tech is there, and FD has some people with serious skills on-board.

So planetary landings in a way David has envisioned them suddenly doesn't seem so far fetched idea.

To me ZT show cases landing on planets and the wildlife we may see. Given its presumably written with the Cobra engine I see lots of potentially reusable code.

Interesting Ideas,

Purely as a fan I've always wondered if The Outsider's code may be utilized at some point?

Frontier
While I cannot state the following as a fact for Frontier...

I just wanted to state that many game companies over the years will reuse and optimize the older code that was added in for previous platforms, and the games residing on those platforms. I'm not stating that Frontier is doing this with Elite<->Zoo Tycoon by any means, more or less stating that it's out there. :)

If anything, the game engine that Frontier have made in the past few years is very potent, very powerful, and works very well - across many different types of machines. :)

They could incorporate elements of kinectimals as well, though having never played kinectimals or zoo tycoon all i can say is that the graphics and animations are very good.

If they have this kind of detail on planets then it will be quite amazing
