Zoom out the cockpit view

When I'm NOT use an HMD/Oculus it feels like my face is pressed up against the dashboard, and tunnel vision.
Please add an option to zoom out/back a bit so we can see more area in front of us without having to look around.

You can adjust the field of view in the options menu. I've got mine set to the widest you can, and in my asp, I can see the lights on the sides of the canopy while looking forward. It will also depend on the aspect ratio of your monitor though. Obsidian Ant on Youtube has it even wider, and I assume he's got a wider monitor. Though I read somewhere too you can edit the field of view further in an xml file. Hope that helps.

You'd have to use an HMD to understand how much you can actually see. With my OR on in my cargo ship I can see out of the top of the windows and the bottom windows below the console without turning my head. If it were just zoomed out a bit more (not changing the fov) it would be fine. Fov without a cinema wide screen or multi monitors will distort the picture.

Field of View and "Zoom" are interrelated. You have only a certain width of screen. If you want to fit more "stuff" on it, you have to increase the FOV, which will necessarily create a certain amount of distortion as you map a larger slice of the spherical environment onto a flat surface.

I suppose they could allow you to move the pilot's chair backward, but that would probably take some major reworking of the cockpit model.

Don't have to move the chair, you can zoom out infinitely. There's already a mod/hack for it. Changing the FOV will distort the peripheral vision and stretch it if it doesn't match your screen, but you CAN zoom out which keeps everything relatively scale looking.

Sorry, but there's simply a physics problem there. If you zoom out, you're changing the field of view. They're inverse functions. And if you do so, you'll get distortion around the edges of the frame because you're trying to map more of a sphere to a rectangular viewport.

The only other way to be able to see more of the cockpit is to move the camera's position. If you don't want to be looking at the back of your own head, that means the chair and pilot models would need to move back as well.
