I know you guys are busy and have a million things to do, but... it would be really nice, as an explorer, when we enter a new system and once we have performed the basic system scan, to be able to access a zoomable explorer view of the current system. I envisage this to be like the usual maps of the Sol system that are in astronomy books: the Sun is in the centre and the orbits are shown, Mercury, Venus, Earth, etc. The difference for Elite Dangerous would be that the planetary positions would be realtime data. So us commanders would switch to this view, being above the plane of the (local) ecliptic, and see all of the stars and planets in their respective orbits, but not in fixed positions as in a static picture, but each body shown in its current position. Something like the current Galactic Map when you zoom way out and above the Galactic Plane.
The main reason I would like this - apart from how neat it would look to see the entire local star system laid out 'underneath' you - would be that it could facilitate a manual calculation of the Traveling Salesman Algorithm, to speed up the travel time between the different local bodies when doing detailed scans of each body in the system. At present, us explorers have to use the left hand view of the as yet Unexplored bodies in the current system to gauge which ones to visit first and in which order, so we can end up zigzagging around the system instead of being able to pick out an optimum route through the system, based on the current position data for each body.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Elite Dangerous is a fantastic game. It has so many facets and scenarios for people to use. Me, I love flying from system to system, scanning each body there and 'photographing' breathtaking views of planets, sun, rings and moons.

Thanks.
