Zorgon Peterson Transporter

Look, I made something! My answer to the Python's dominance in medium pad hauling: The Transporter. As re-imagined by Zorgon Peterson, based on the Hauler. Yeah, I know, it's only a crayon tier line sketch of a blueprint made with paint.net, but I'm proud anyway, like a 6 year old scrawling his first stick people.

The Transporter is a heavy lifting workhorse medium freighter intended for delivery of goods to and from trade hubs to the outlying stations in system and the immediate neighborhood. The very heavy hull is reinforced to handle load in high gravity environments and the strong thrusters, while only allowing for relatively low velocities, are running cool and enable accurate maneuvering. The heavy hull also means the jump range is limited, but not reduced too much while laden and shield effectiveness is rather limited. The blueprint shows two medium hardpoints in the front and one large hardpoint center back for some level of defense. While having fewer slots, and thus versatility, than a Type-6 or Python, it has two size 7 slots for a functional 256 cargo capacity. I'd give it another size 5 for the shield generator and two smaller slots for utility but that's it. It's meant as a heavy duty hauler, which might work as a miner, if you skip the shield.

P.S. Thanks to the cool thrusters and not relying on shields much, it may make a good smuggler, too.

Yeah, the super freighters: Panther Clipper, box the size of the mail slot. Boa Freighter: Made out of three Anacondas slapped together in a triangle cone.

Don't think we need another medium cargo hauler, the Python and T6 have got it covered. Wouldn't mind seeing the Boa freighter or Puma clipper make an entrance though.

The T6 is too small - even running with just a Class 3 shield it barely scrapes 100t of cargo.
The Kra2t is a better medium cargo ship. Even the FDS can carry 140t of cargo with a Class 4 shield.

A >200t medium pad hauler should be a no-brainer for FDev.

The Type-6 is not even capable anymore of doing delivery missions, as the majority of them requires either 120 tons or 180 tons of cargo space.

Only thing Id say is

Given we already have Two other ships already called "Transporter", it would need another name.

The Lion and the Puma from FE2 have the ED ZPG Space plane-ish look with the little winglets so options for a name, and were cargo ships too

Think that's a bit of a stretch. The type-6 might not be able to do the 5-8 mill missions hauling 120/180 tonnes, however there are plenty of 1-3 mill missions for much smaller amounts. Even smuggling missions at the moment pay 1+ mill for hauling tiny amounts of nerve agents/weapons etc. Plenty of ways to earn good money doing haulage in the smaller freighters.

Do agree with the general sentiment that smaller ships should be able to complete large haulage missions/multiple runs within the 24 hour deadline.

The Type-6 and Type-7 are, in case you forgot, the Type-6 Transporter and the Type-7 Transporter. Two ships, re-imagined from the basic Transporter of earlier Elite games. In other words, FD thought of the same thing you have, and they already put it into the game. Twice.

Except with the exception that he's looking for something to compete with a python for transport, which neither the T6 (not nearly as much cargo) nor the T7 (can't fit on medium pads) can do.

I'd almost say built-in docking computer for the Panther Clipper, but on the other hand, that's no fun. Maybe give it a HUD overlay for mail-slot help, some kind of cockpit projection that gives you an idea of how you're lining up.

To be honest, I'd say that most, if not all manufacturers should have a Python-grade medium ship with 250+ tonnes of cargo capacity, a 50+ million price tag and a smattering of class 6-7 core internals. Obviously they should all have their own manufactuer specific spin on them and be quite different to use, but should still be all capable of going head-to-head against each other in a variety of different roles.

For example, the Zorgon Peterson Medimax ship would basically be an enlarged FDL. Keep the hardpoint layout and 6 utility slots, beef up the core and optional internals (which wouldn't overall actually increase performance because of an increased hull mass), effectively creating a FDL with enhanced cargo capacity at increased cost (or creating to the FDL what the Viper IV is to the Viper III). Personally, I quite like the name "Bushmaster" for a Zorgon Medium ship, as it is both a close relative to the Fer De Lance as well as being a fitting name for a ship that operates best where there isn't infrastructure to support larger vessels "out in the bush".

Similarly, a Core Dynamics Medimax ship could effectively be a shrunk down corvette, keeping many of the same trappings but rebalanced and resized for a medium landing pad. Give it a fairly large shielded cargo capacity in the region of 300 tonnes, balanced by the characteristic short jump range of CD ships (making it a better short-haul trader than the Python, but worse for longer journeys). For weapons, give it a loadout such as 2x large above and behind the cockpit, 2x medium on the sides and 2x small on the topside to reinforce the "miniature corvette" feeling when combined with an SLF bay and Corvette-like manoeuvrability (which is good for a large ship, but actually pretty poor for a medium ship).

Other manufacturers could also get on board, with Saud Kruger enjoying their luxury cabins and oversized fuel tanks, Lakon building an Alliance multipurpose vessel that handles like a paper bag fighting a strong breeze to support their ongoing military growth and finally Gutamaya producing something with their characteristic high maximum speeds, large numbers of medium hardpoints and small numbers of larger internal slots.
