Community Event / Creation The Buckyball Racing Club presents: The Trouble With Triples (12th to 20th November 3308)

Logged in to to check on the Wagner situation. With my ideal route still obscured it was going to cost me an extra jump but what the hell, figured I'd give the regulation DBS another spin round the track. Didn't think I had much chance of improving or beating Epaphus so I have to say I was quite surprised when I checked the final time.

Today Wagner's Landing continues to be obscured for some but others are finding ways to fit it in without a problem in both classes.
There are two new competitors to Buckyball Racing making an entry today so welcome and fine flying to CMDRs Leeya Geddy and El Saico! o7 and I hope you had fun out there!

In Unlimited class, CMDR New Model 15 switched from the Imperial Courier to the Asp Explorer Try Not To Breathe, outfitted like a freezer in Iceland and submitted two entries with successive improvements, resulting in a time of 28:48, more than nine minutes faster than before and now much closer to the other racers. CMDR El Saico's first submission clearly had some thought put into it with a well-tuned Dolphin, the Kimi Raikkonen making light work of clearing mass lock and showing some deft touches on approach to the toast rack, with only one hairy moment exiting it. The time of 26:14 is less than thirty seconds behind CMDR Erratic Spawn and Unlimited is now split up into two groups, with those able to achieve sub-20-minute times and those with times in the mid to late 20's. What is their secret?!

Regulation class saw CMDR Leeya Geddy fly the Necromancer around the course in a time of 40:21 and this effort was notable for being the only entry I have so far seen where the entrant managed to get a FSD boost from Faust 3725 A twice. The jet cones from this white dwarf barely extend beyond the exclusion zone, so very careful flying is required to gain the boost and survive (I have personally taken a rebuy at Van Maanen's Star which is similar). Finally, the effort and the !khan of the day goes to CMDR Alec Turner in the Triple Cooked Chips, who braved the obscured jump and engaged in a daring lithobraking manoeuvre at Wagner's Landing, managing to break the 30-minute barrier with a time of 29:58. Well done - but there is still more time for improvements with the final weekend of the race to come (and maybe the Bubble, if you look at what Professor Alba Tesreau is saying!)

This is turning out to be another terrific race - loving the write-ups @Edelgard von Rhein and great to see (once again) lots of new folks giving it a try.

So this morning, hallelujah! the jump from Wagner wasn't obscured! On my first attempt I was so excited by this prospect that I completely forgot to engage the next jump at the first star and just sat there in super cruise for what felt like 35 minutes wondering why nothing was happening.

Abort and back to the start for attempt #2. Perfect until I come to leave Griffith Enterprise and mess up the exit. Now the loss of 70% hull wouldn't be so bad in itself, except my next repair stop is Wagner! On the way I also end up having an obscured jump from Grand WIllow Range (damn, knew I should have chosen Alpha Star Tooling), have to resort to a quick jump into supercruise to get around this ..

.. and come very close to abandoning the run. I press on to Wagner tho where thankfully I get a favourable pad assignment.

All that remains is to get back to Atkov where I have THE most perfect bit of landing gear timing with the gear down message happening the exact instant I smack down onto the pad.

I hate it when that happens, feel so annoyed with yourself

Me too... I got hung up yesterday and didn't get a chance to submit my run, but I got it in this morning. It might have been enough to pip your last time, but will it be enough to pip this one....

Today's action has mostly been in the Regulation class which has been upturned more than a field of berries in a Pokemon game but first comes Unlimited with two improved times, including the new fastest time of the race from CMDR Shaye Blackwood in his Dolphin Athena, with a seamless performance that will be hard to beat, touching down in just 16:56. It will take more than dealing with one unobscured jump to beat, with the next fastest time being a full 1:45 behind, but there is still time for an upset. Fine flying here, it has to be said! o7. Another improved time was submitted by CMDR Martinjameson, in his own Dolphin Whippet? That's Luxury, who managed a time of 26:30 that is just 16 seconds away from CMDR El Saico, who has been busy today in Regulation class...

There have been six new entries today in Regulation class and CMDR El Saico flew the Want Some Churrasco? around in 39:21, which is a decent time in between the other newcomers to Buckyball racing, CMDRs Erratic Spawn and Leeya Geddy. CMDR Draig Seren had his eyes on improving his position as well as his time and managed to leap ahead of CMDR Martinjameson with a time of 33:56 in the BBRC Triple Trouble that cooked the cool-running ship at times and is now only eleven seconds behind CMDR FearlessF21. The top of the table is all change with new entries from yesterday's top four. Despite an improvement in the Cook Me Mamma, CMDR sulu is now in 4th place with a time of 30:39 but needs only 2 seconds to get back onto the podium as CMDR Epaphus is now in 3rd place in the Talkie Toaster with a ten second improvement to 30:37. Those few extra seconds do matter, also seen in the change to the top two, where CMDR Alec Turner continues to be defied by obscured jumps and yet managed a time of 29:38 in the Triple Cooked Chips that required a deft touch coming in to Wagner Landing with low hull. Today CMDR Ozric comes out on top, however, with a run in the Blue Thunder of 29:33, yet somehow I do not think this will be the last improvement in the lead time in Regulation class!

Again, fine flying to everyone and especially with fastest times in both categories, o7.

A quick word about the weekend. I will not be posting a leaderboard on Sunday but might make a comment or two and will instead wait until the race is over and post the final leaderboard on Monday (probably evening UTC). I may be a bit delayed with the Saturday leaderboard or be feeling under the weather due to irl stuff I have that day, in which case I may not produce detailed commentary but I hope and expect that everything will be fine, so until then, fly fast!

5 seconds between first and second. 2 seconds between third and fourth.

Man I love racing! Great job all, and really well done to all of our newcomers too (not forgetting those who joined us during 8 ball). I'm really impressed by how close all of the times are. Bring on the final weekend!

Although I think really I only have 10 seconds I can improve if I really nail everything, but I think Alec has more to gain 😬

Uploading next reg run. dont think I have much left, unless I devote a considerable amount of time to figureing out the better route, I have no doubt there is one, based on the times above me and that would sort of take the fun out of it.
May look at better routing tomorrow when i return from collage open day with the child, then again may just wing it in the hope I get lucky

If it helps my route is done just using the in game plotter. The only time I had to manually plot one jump was leaving Wagner, as the route it wanted to take me was obscured.
