first line of the journalThird-party tool maintainers everywhere: "Aaaarghaaaaaaaaghghaaaaaghghghaaaaaa!"
More seriously: I understand why, but will there be some obvious indication in the Journal files as to whether the 3.8 or 4.0 galaxy is being reported on, and if so, is that documented already?

gameversion[/ICODE} available in both "Fileheader" (not for CAPI-sourced journals) and "LoadGame" journal events. 'We' plan to make use of that going forwards.
EDDN had a recent schema update to allow "gameversion" and "gamebuild" (because why not?) fields in the "header" component of all messages. All senders are strongly encourage to implement these ASAP.
I won't try to pre-empty those who run the third-party sites (i.e. spansh, EDSM, inara.cz), but I'll be surprised if they don't choose to only accept Live (so gameversion >= 4.0) data going forwards.
I'm personally awaiting some clarification with regards to CAPI data.
Yes, all of those elements and any other progress will be tracked separately.Separate CMDR profile between legacy/live.. does that mean we'll have our assets, like ships, carriers, credit balance will become independent as well?
Yep, the Squadron I fly with is multi platform and we back our own Player-based faction in the BGS. Think this will ultimately cause the console Cmdrs to hang up their flight suits for good.I'm sure what comes next will be very exciting, but the console news is very sad to hear.
We've got a great many console players who can't afford a PC for Elite, or simply don't want to switch - and are now locked out from affecting the same galaxy as the rest of us.
I know this seems like a foregone conclusion, but at least being able to work on the same goals seemed like a decent compromise.
Even more crazy, Denton Patreus might even win in bizzaro world Legacy PowerplaySeparate CMDR profile between legacy/live.. does that mean we'll have our assets, like ships, carriers, credit balance will become independent as well?
Glad to hear it, however you can bet it will still spawn a ton of hotel California postGlad to hear! They will be, yeah.
I'm sorry to hear about this. It was sadly inevitable that doing this would disrupt some of the shared experience across platforms, as you say.Yep, the Squadron I fly with is multi platform and we back our own Player-based faction in the BGS. Sad times, inevitable and half expected, but sad none the less
Ah man. I guess exploration just died for me. I like to discover atmospheric planets but also enjoy the old planets of horizons. No more switching between both to experience the beauty of the game twofold... I just don't get why you guys are actively repelling veteran explorers...Yes, all of those elements and any other progress will be tracked separately.
They will be separate along with everything else. You can choose to maintain both if you wish, but as you say we don't expect everyone to go to such lengths. If i have a carrier now. When legacy mode is introduced, will i have to login to legacy and live to maintain my carrier balance and all ( i assume yes) ....otherwise i may login to legacy at some point in the future and find I've lost my carrier and such, correct?
I assume this means legacy / live mode is really not intended to be played effectively in parallel ...you pick one and stick with it more or less.
