1. backup folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings
2. screenshot every Graphics setting
3. screenshot of Credits amount with Cmdr name
4. Plan free time until at least Wednesday

I have ody and hor 3.8 installed. I absolutely don't want hor 4.0 on my machine - is the update forcing that 50G on myself?!

You have Odyssey installed, so you already have 4.0 installed.

If you have Odyssey (4.0) already installed then you'll be fine.
"4.0" is Odyssey for Odyssey owners. No 50 gb download, don't worry.

So the update will not force to download Horizons 4.0 - is that right?
Odyssey and Horizons 4.0 are just the same 4.0 client running in different modes - they use the same files basically. So you already technically have it installed.
Well, onwards to 'Live' and all the best to 'legacy' it seems.
This is a good move from FD here. I don't know how many will remain on Legacy but it's good of FD to freeze it for those in the community who need it.
It's a no-brainer for me (I'm EDO already) to stick to the Live track going forward.
I'm also hoping this has already simplified the work stream for FD dev team to test and roll out future fixes, features and updates!

If I understand correctly, Horizons 4.0 and Odyssey are the same, 4.0 just doesn't make the Odyssey content available.
Actually, I think it will ..... to the tune of 164.7 MB but preserves a freeze of 3.8 and calls it Legacy. Then you can choose which to play.
