Honestly, I do not understand this toxicity towards the development team. I knew when I put my money in that I was funding a project. One that would be in development throughout the first few years after funding it. From time to time, as the project begins to take place, things change. Why we, as a community, must attack the people who make these decisions, for whatever reason, and refuse to attempt to understand, even when major players in the decision making process come in and respectfully attempt to explain to us the reason behind their decisions I will never understand.
To those being outright rude, or clamoring for a refund for funding an incomplete and in development game, for shame. This team put their hearts, souls, and time into giving us what I feel has become a fantastic game. Did I think Offline would be a thing? Yeah. Am I disappointed it won't be? A little. The difference is I have the mental wherewithal to understand that when funding a project, things change. As the project moves along, that wide scope begins to narrow, and hone in on the final product. And sometimes that means large pieces of the original picture must be re-evaluated.
Michael, David, and the rest of the team knew full well that this decision would not necessarily be a popular one. And when they try to treat us like adults and explain in a calm, logical manner exactly why they have had to make the decision they made, what are they met with? Toxicity, jeers, and overall childishness. I paid into a project to resurrect a game I loved from my childhood, and to be frank, I am astounded with what they've been able to deliver. I can't wait to see what this game grows to become.
And for anyone still complaining about the release date/newsletter's content, remember when Eve, that game this community always likes to compare Elite: Dangerous to, first came out? Remember the screwed up ball of bugs and lack of content? I do. I also remember being part of the community and watching it grow into the behemoth it is today. Took time. All good things take time. I mean, hell, it's 10 years later and we are only just getting the ability to manually pilot our craft! I, for one, will be playing Elite for years to come. This is a dream come true for me, the resurrection of one hell of a series, and I can wait to see what it will grow to become. Great work, Michael, and to the rest of the team. Thank you for your hard work and dedication.
