Duke Nukem Forever is "done", quite ultimately:

http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/58519

Now that DNF is finished.. that means Elite 4 is the new vaporware king!

Interesting news about Duke Nukem, Always been a big fan of those games along with Shadow Warrior, However I would dispute the Vapourware tag. If you have a look at some of the posts on here by Michael and Stefan you will see that they are admittedly slightly ambiguous. but, and here's the point, they clearly state that after the release of the Outsider the next project will be.....E4.

A few of us (inc myself) have mentioned having a sticky at the top of the forum with a current status of E4 so we don't get the repeated posts on E4.

We all pray that it will come out one day and for me it's not a case of if but when.

Fingers crossed :D

That also might depend on the current flow of new space sim/game content. There are several new games coming out in the MMO genre (IE: JGE, BP Infinity, STO and some multiplayer games as NSW, HW, NS. Because software is all about making money they will obviously assess the gaming market and whether it is worth the cost to start developing one full time.

Now I hope it gets made... but Infinity is looking damn good and it is pretty much Elite 4. If they ever get that one done :)

I can only repeat was David has said a couple of times: Elite IV will be out after The Outsider. We have no intention of pulling a Duke Nukem Forever (***).

It will be out. I can't provide a date - because we never do that - but it will be out if I so shall have to complete the whole thing myself (*)

But I understand that the wait and lack of info is frustrating so I can't fault anyone who choses not to believe me. (**)

/Stefan

(*) though if I have to it is likely to be ~10 years - I need to learn how to draw first among other things.

(**) though I can fault some of the visitors as Xbox.com who keep telling me that they know more about Thrillville: Off the Rails than I do - and I wrote the damn thing together with quite a few others here. It feels good to get this off my chest :)

(***) I was looking forward to DNF.

I don't blame you for that.
Thanks for the reply in the Outsider thread btw.

The release date for Elite4 will be one epic moment in my life. I HOPE the rest of the world will be aware of that happenening then. Frontier better do some publicity work on that historical date so that the galaxy will have one big fat celebration that day - and not only the hardcore lost souls waiting for that moment for decades here in this fine forum:)
I am awaiting nothing less than an earthquake on that day of the anouncement :)

Ok, I am going to buy Sims3 now... lol

lol - it's been about two years since i last logged in to ask about an RSS feed (still doesn't appear to be one)

good to see that the elite 4 enthusiasm is still there. :)

i wouldn't say elite 4 is vapour-ware yet - it isn't actually (officially anyway) in development is it? once there's an official announcement about it being in development then the vapour-ware counter can begin.

i'm sure this has been mentioned before, but i would quite happy pay $10 a month to play elite 4 as an mmorpg ... remember what they did with a floppy disk, imagine what they could do with a cloud infrastructure.

When David says that Elite IV will be published after The Outsider it is the first game he is talking about. That is not to say that an Outsider sequel couldn't end up being published before Elite IV as well - I dont know the answer to that and I am not sure that David knows yet either.

Thats about as close to an 'offical announcement' as it gets at this stage.
Frontier will not tell us when.
If you ask nicely, one of those nice forum moderators might tell you why.:D
(Reminding us why every now & then wouldn't hurt either)

I know my creeping was toungue in cheek, but as has been said before, a bit of info every now & then would maintain interest.

Yes I know, we've discussed this all before !:D

It is announced (sort of) on frontier.co.uk since 2000:

http://web.archive.org/web/20001121151600/http://www.frontier.co.uk/games/elite4/faq.html

But rumours about elite 4 existed on the alt.fan.elite newsgroup since at least 1998:

http://groups.google.com/group/alt....54325cbb56f9fe/33e3c4a54be9147f?hl=en&lnk=gst

I think Braben himself posted something about it there in the late 90s.

Elite IV has been given a ETA of 2012 in PC Gamer, for what it's worth. I don't like the sound of all this MMO rubbish being thrown around; after waiting 15 years, I will start throwing things if they make Elite IV an MMO with no singleplayer.

Sorry, but after waiting fifteen years, if it isn't the best game in the history of fantastic games, I will be very disappointed.

Thanks for that Stefan. 11-12 years of waiting, 2 years on this forum, I still look a couple of times a week but it's difficult to keep the enthusiasm up with no news, so your input is appreciated even though you are severely restricted in what you can say. By the way, several of the the regulars have thoughtful and useful ideas on how E4 should be. Is that any help at all to the Frontier developers? I realise there are copyright issues for you, but you know we won't sue, just want our names out there (must be a Steve Have station, and Turwhitt High still has a nice ring). As I've said before, you have a bunch of guys (and girls, sorry Alien) who have given this way to much thought, it would be great if Frontier used us as a resource?

Keeping the faith....

...wasn't sure if you wanted your Frontier or Facebook persona:) After all your posts here, I think you deserve both:D I'm still rooting for Baggy End as a gloomy interstellar backwater where drinking and mining are all there is to do
