No you actually are Elite I, it's just that the next rank is now a lot further away than it was before. So that means that even though I have the visual title of Elite I am actually a Geneticist.

So they aren't looking at rank based on total cumulative credits, just the necessary credits to get to the next rank. Ok.No you actually are Elite I, it's just that the next rank is now a lot further away than it was before.
They are basing it on totals, but they didn't want to remove any ranks that people had already accrued. So they aren't looking at rank based on total cumulative credits, just the necessary credits to get to the next rank. Ok.

Can you imagine what would have happened if someone got Elite rank and then because of the adjustments the new totals would have put them at Cataloguer for example, so Frontier just made them lose 4 ranks, and access to Shinrarta Dhezra...
If they are basing it on totals then someone that got Elite IV last week has an extra long way to go to get Elite V. Ranking up would be the equivalent of the updated Elite II->V but all in one huge step. They are basing it on totals, but they didn't want to remove any ranks that people had already accrued.

It would also means that in this example their progress will remain at 0% until they reach the amount required for the updated Elite IV... then the progress bar will start to increase.
Unfortunately that does not seem to be true. I was at 98% of Elite 1 and am now at 0%, beyond that, even after doing 150 million worth of turn ins, which should have been atleast a few percent on the new scale, I'm still at 0%.As an example.
If you were 700/1000xp to reach the next rank and suddenly the requirement goes up by 10 fold, you're now 700/10,000.
You haven't lost any progress, but because the distance to the next rank is now much further away it looks like you've made less progress.

the insane progress was an error. FD increased the payments 10fold but forgot to increase the rank requirements.. you have not lost out , an error was fixed. it's for the best imo. I did my 1s t ever scan on sat and under 10 hrs of (inefficient) scanning and no 1st discovered I was a gnats pube off hitting elite. that isn't right imo..... it means I will (probably for ever as I don't imagine I will be in to exobiology for the long haul as it's not in VR) be a geneticist for ages but I am fine with that personally.I've not lost points but I need to acquire more points to reach the next level?
Sounds like different ways of saying the same thing to me there..
i disagreethe insane progress was an error
if the elite ranking truly doesn't matter to you then surely you would not care either way. if OTOH part of your enjoyment comes from "filling buckets" as it work by progressing to elite then getting it in 10hrs game time is over too quickly imo*(even tho it does not matter if you reach exobio elite in 1 week or in 100 weeks since you get nothing out of it in terms of ingame benefits)
Honestly, they should just do the recalculation and update ranks so that people have the right ranks. But yes, they need to recalculate the credits based on the new payouts because it seems they just upped the amounts and didn't do any recalculation, so if you spent 150 hours getting elite pre-U14, you now need to do another 125 hours just to get back to where you were. They really should have adjusted credits earned for ranks before the update to bring the pre-update rank value in line with the new payout levels. Then no rank progress would be lost and your rank would continue to advance as “normal” under the new payout system.
That's the way it is now. They did a full rank reset, but they don't show it to you. Now your progress is just stuck at zero until your "virtual" rank catches up to your "displayed" rank, then the progress starts climbing again. You won't see any movement for a loooong time, I guess. And pray that they don't alter the deal any further.Unfortunately that does not seem to be true. I was at 98% of Elite 1 and am now at 0%, beyond that, even after doing 150 million worth of turn ins, which should have been atleast a few percent on the new scale, I'm still at 0%.
