Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Come now LittleAnt, this is not a wang waving competition you want to get into. One system with a half a dozen planets and 40 rivers is not some crowning achievement for 10 years work, millions of man hours and $600 million down the john.
When I compare the planets of SC and what you can do on them to a lot of other games with planets, on the contrary I find it an achievement.

40 rivers! Wow, so the river tech really is rolling right along!

What next? 40 systems?

A river. Singular.

But now they have the tools to make rivers they can make as many as they want.

The fact they haven't added any more rivers since adding that one is probably because according to lore there is only 1 river in the whole of Stanton.
"to make rivers they can make as many as they want."
Exactly 😋 40 rivers now.

Exactly 😋 40 rivers now.
But why?

although this meme does somewhat assume a level of competence I'm unconvinced exists in this case

Also why 20 biomes, trees, grass, flowers, rocks, snow, ocean, dumps, sand, dust, wind, clouds, cliffs, mountains, mist, caves, cities, etc ?

And Vandulls, and cheeky little alien monkey people, and space raiders on hoverbikes, and Netches, and Space Whales, and alien lobsters, and marauding Ranta's, and wise Turtle People, and Blue Dragon Tree Merchant aliens, and absolutely enormous singing Sandwurmies.

They all make Star Citizen feel so alive when I interact with them in the game.

Those pesky Vanduls, always hot-wiring my hoverbike with their knives.

(Or is that Gremlins? I get confused.)

On the surface, SC rivers look like NMS rivers. This is not a good thing in general. The difference being, NMS rivers are procedural, like everything else, and can be placed on uncountable numbers of planets. They definitely didn't require an entire studio dedicated to locations.

Oh wait, planets in NMS can have whole lakes as well, with actual, if simplified, water physics and interesting underwater creatures:

For the love of Vishnu, according to quick googling, Hello Games had 26 employees in 2020. And they never sold a single concept ship for which one would have to wait for more than a decade. A Tier-0 decade, so to say.

It has more than lakes, it has oceans. Some worlds are mainly water, with islands dotted around. Its not Subnautica, but it does a decent job of the water biome.
