Newcomer / Intro OG Cmdr Blatant returned from a 5 year stasis accident!

Just keep in mind that all your progress in Legacy has no impact on Live!
Exactly! I can completely balls it up, lose all my money, smash my ASP into a pirate station and stuff and I don't have to worry about it coz my old profile is waiting for me in Odyssey.

I have 84mill so AFAIK I can show my friend the game, see the sights, mess about and when I'm "all caught up" I can pick up where I left off in Live confident that I know what I'm up to!

It's like a catch up sandbox!

The thing about legacy Horizons 3.8 is that it is its own separate galaxy where nothing crosses over into Horizons 4.0 and Odyssey. You are cut off in a dead end with no new game development. The major third party tools like Inara and eddb only work with 4.0.and Odyssey.
If you are playing on PC think seriously about playing Horizons 4.0 where you game progress happens in a version of the galaxy that has a future.

So the adventure begins!

I've already had to disassemble and rebuild my flight controls (IRL!) coz the rudder seems (seemed! I fixed it!!) to stick. My key bindings are all over the shop trying to remember how I used to do it LOL.

Already had a heartstopper when I found out I left me Mk4 Viper at a pirate statin, took off and discovered I'd bound thrusters to vertical thrusters and almost belly flopped the bloody thing into the station.

Thankfully all in Legacy (aka training mode!).

Had a fight with some AI, toasted em, forgot and remembered about the e-turn (boost and landing gear trick) after. would have been easier. haha (I also discovered my rudder drift during this battle). It's good to be back Cmdrs!

Now a new mystery, back in the day I used to use the same look for all my ships (I wnt to say Livery but I'm just not sure). I can't for the life of me figure out how to get it back so I'm scared to change it!

It looks like this, at first I thought it was a paid for livery back in the day that wasn't working but on review I never bought livery for Vipers apparently. Nothing looks like this in Livery and I only have 2 options available. It's certainly not a decal...

Am I just being really dense here? Is this just a default paintjob or summin? :ROFLMAO:

There is a standard as bought paint job for each ship but that isn’t the same for different manufacturers. There are a few paint jobs that you can buy with Arx for every ship but they are typically only available for limited times each year (just now you can buy Golden or Chromed for almost everything).

Lighting changes have altered the way some paints look, especially Odyssey, also the local starlight can have an effect even in the hanger.

That looks like the standard paint job for the Viper to me but it’s not a ship I kept so can’t be sure.

In livery any paint job that you own will be displayed as a different coloured tile from those you would need to buy, highlighting a tile will show that paint on your ship but you have to click on the tile to actually change the paint on your ship.

The adventure continues, I've remastered discovery and picked up my federal military career now. Also made some friends in the empire, been down to some planets, picked up some fines (that are ing me off trying to clear em).

Also, on my way along my road to riches (In Odyssey) I completely forgot about Thargoids, got too close to a malstrom system that was actually goid systems nad got interdicted! Panic ensued but I got away by skin of my teeth in my old Mk4 Viper. Got my first look at em tho.

I have a related noob question out of curiosity. I've hit my weekly ARK limit, when does that reset?

Cheers Cmdr's,

Just bank rolled a new quick mining ASP thanks to my exploration data (accidentally sold an entire 100m page to the wrong station I'll never come back to accidentally), so should max that trading soon.

Figured I'll pick up where I left off and pick up at least one Elite pip, back in my day everything was grind and I missed all the good old exploits/imbalanced of yestur-year, but I'm Pathfinder, Trader, Novice so i'll mine my Trader Elite first. Bank a quick billieo, Then I think I'll finish up exploration and fast track Exo bio. All while I build up my combat ships 🙂

Welcome to 3309 Cmdr's o7

A quick way to money when starting out is trader -> T-6 -> T-7 -> T-9, with the T-9 it's quite easy to earn 150 - 200m+ per trade A to B loop. Otherwise I've heard that Exo biology has been buffed and offers insane amounts of money at the moment.

You can find profitable nearby trade loops by using Inara or eddb.io. For combat I suppose that the meta is still stacking massacre pirate missions or possibly the new Thargoid war zones.

Not so long ago there was a tritium CG that took me from Elite to Elite V in trade in just a few days. IIRC, it netted me something like 12b.. :)

Yea not ready for Thargoids, gotta do the engineering, guardian and AX grinds before I contemplate that, after my previous close encounter!! Hahaha

But yea my research suggests massacre stacking is best for combat boosting. I did the whole T-6/T-9 thing back in the day, granted it's been balanced but I don't want none of that this time round. I've seen some good guides on mining to boost trading rank to elite (I'm a backer so it's not important but these guides are quick ways to get to elite and Jameson Memorial) so I'll do that and bank a cool billion, I'll do that with my wing man who is newb to boost him to a Billie too.

Then I to have heard Exo is getting boosted ATM so get in while the gettings good!

Basically on the same wavelength tho, I defo wanna teach them goids a lesson or too! And also Rule 1 of Ed: use the tools totally agree, trading, mining, material grinding, CGs, basically anything : eddb.io, inara, MiningTool, all the tools!

This is the way! Always had been, back in my day we didn't even have inara or fleet carriers but still had a dozen eddb tabs open all the time. Excellent advise for anyone old or new

Welcome back, I've also recently returned from an even longer hypersleep. I fell into a pocket universe full of orcs and trolls and cow people! That was before limpets or engineering were things.

You should have a go at deep core mining for Void Opals and Low Temperature Diamonds, I found that to be really good fun if you're not after fast paced action all the time. There are plenty of tutorials out there, here's one.

Do people still do that? I thought the market had died for those and that mining money was now laser-mining platinum.

It's okay money, platinum is probably better, but I find it way more fun. Boom! Zap! Crackle!

Proper platinum mining needs a bigger ship with lots of limpets, so at the AspX stage of financial progress, deep core might even be in the same ball park for money making.

This!

I'm going core mining coz who doesn't like popping a big sod off roid huh?

I'll check out all the prices and pick something. Based on hotspots on https://edtools.cc/hotspot and nearby trade on inara.

(Feels good to b back in the saddle)

Straw poll commanders Best Sml Ship for Exo, personal opinions please! I can't make up my mind, classic Sidey, retro my Viper4? I do want to take an SRV for fun n games.

Im back at good ol' Jameson right now and a few hundo Millie in my back pocket, wanna do some of that Exo money money along the neutron superhighway as well...

Also should I grind engineer/guardian FSD before I go Exo? I'd rather do it before if it makes it more fun less boring doing Exo later.

This is a bit out of date. Best core mining price was Monazite recently and LTD mining is a waste if time if you want profit. Laser mining has meant going after platinum for a while now.
But if you want to mine in an icy ring for the view and profit is not important, what ever floats your boat 😁

Unless you are doing something horrendously wrong all mining is profitable as you end up with more credits than you started with.

So what to mine comes down to how fast do I need to get more credits versus how much fun am I having mining this stuff.
