Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

'Every dollar raised by Ci~G is invested not in game development but in how to make the next dollar'.

But CIG assured us that every dollar goes towards development of the game, and Chris proudly proclaimed that they could make a dollar stretch 5 times as far over a traditional publisher!

Oh wait, CIG/CR are full of....

Oh come on, they've stretched those original kickstarter dollars out for ten years now, I don't know any kickstarter project that's managed to do that, game franchise or not!

A further small prediction wild guess for 2023 if I may indulge? (@VR Golgot)...I forsee the departure of one or more senior managers from Ci~G, more than likely headed by the current head of live development, Todd Papy ;)

Oh yeah I could def see more long-term top-brass leaving this year. Papy would make sense given the PU starvation.

I'd be amazed if John Crewe could take another year of walking into tech blockers. Think Paul Jones heading out may be an extra nudge there.

Interesting to see Jones's Citcon snippet back in that respect:

And if we're going on unscientific snippet hot takes, I could see Chambers going too...

(Mind you he's seemed kinda hangdog this whole time ;))

Haven't watched it yet, but some great comments in the salty stream ;)

Chris is like my border collie. When I take her on a walk if I let her stop and sniff every single thing, we’ll never make it around the loop, this is the problem at CIG starting at the top.

"I agree, each year it does get more ambitious - and less polished!" -SaltEMike

We just enjoy the lies more because we know we're being lied to and we don't expect half of the he/they tell us. Hmmm... Hull C could have delivered last year after all of his about being a priority coming out in 2017. They sold it last year saying it would be here last year... then delivered the A and shelved it knowing that they can still hit us harder one more time this year after all of the work was done on it.

It's a simple point of reality, Star Wars came out when technology couldn't support the final picture of all of the episodes. Avatar came out when technology couldn't support all of the episodes. This is a video game and it pales in comparison to either of those first release project. He is an addict with a vision and so many enablers (myself included) that he makes the opioid epidemic look trivial. Yes, I am an enabler in this case and I have more .jpgs than I should. He has sucked up more money than a list of a lot of white collar criminals out there, and hasn't done anything yet. to get close to his dream because feature creep is real. Do we all believe it can happen and want it to happen, for sure.

At some point, he needs to cowboy the "F" up and say, "I allowed this to happen". Then get a copy of Squadron released in 365 days. It's three episodes right????. Way less replay value than Star Wars or Avatar and frankly, way easier. RELEASE it. Get the additional revenue from it to pay for the dream that is Start Citizen that we all paid for in the first place. The fact that all of this should have been released as 1080P, does not make it acceptable to update it to 1440P and then drag it out because hardware is coming to support it in 4K in the hopes that they can stall for 8K and make use drool when everyone has a OLED on their desk top.

10 years, 800+ taskforce, magic germans, a bunch of veterans that know better than anyone else, and a perfectionist Visionaire... And yet their rear mainly been saved by Turbulent (imagine if CIG had made the store... And now they're substitute to content creation and pillar tech)

Yeah it's telling how top management and its the close guard are more part of the problem than the solution.

I have to timestamp this question and answer. And keep in mind this interview was from 2016. I have no words.
Just so to be specific on what Chris had the guts to say back in August 2016:

GameStar: Next question, Squadron 42 is still on track then?

Chris Roberts: We're working hard on that but it's gonna, you know... think of us being Naughty Dog, so it's gonna be, it'll be, it's got to be great and it's going to be polished so we're definitely, all the elements, will be done this year. So we're kind of in the close down mode of, we've got all the content, the missions, the playthrough, are all done and blocked in. We're finishing all these.

Answer the Call 2016 indeed. Just. Amazing. How much money was pledged on the back of that Answer the Call hype? How much has been refunded after non delivery?

It's absolutely incredible that people are still giving them money. I guess they polished it a bit too hard and now it's gone

The thing is, I genuinely don't think he was lying when he said that Sqn 42 had been locked down and was almost ready...but somewhere between gamescon and the end of 2016, something major happened. As of yet, I'm still only guessing the reasons behind it's disappearance and reappearance near the end of 2017. A total re-write of Sqn 42 or perhaps something to do with the Crytek legal case looming somewhere....I'm really only guessing here, but something happened and Sqn 42 had to be redone from the beginning. That part is fairly obvious from the standpoint of a long term backer 🤷‍♂️

Besides all that...a few thousand of us refunded shortly after that interview was filmed...enough of us that Ci~G were forced into re-writing the TOS to stop the mass exodus. Certain choice idiots were daft enough to buy back in just over a year later of course.

In for a penny, in for a pound as they say

Why you refunded after that interview in August though? At the time of that interview there was in theory not much to fear. Answer the Call 2016 was still confirmed on track for 2016. Or you mean the following year when it was clear SQ42 was still nowhere to be seen?

Nah, it was the end of 2016 I filled in all the forms and refunded, got all my cash back at the beginning of 2017 like most of us who threw in the towel during the exodus...I meant 'shortly after' in the loosest meaning of the phrase....Like you mention, back when that interview was filmed in mid 2016, everything was still smelling of roses for us early cultists. It wasn't until after citizencon later that year where the reality of what Roberts and Ci~G had actually managed to achieve as opposed to what we had been led to believe up until then became shockingly apparent, then the crap really hit the fan :)

Is all been finished already for 6 years. That's really the naughty dog here - how he and his cronies keep on crapping on their customers. And Gamestar was one of their biggest shills. Amazing really how that Graf never seems to age. OK he has a beard now, it seems.

Has LittleAnt played the "Ah, but they decided to redo all the missions" card yet? As if that makes it all ok.
