Is Elite Dangerous a dead game? I compared it to some others ...

Yes and I think you'd know that there's been threads suggesting the game is dying since before it was released.

The first one I saw was in July of 2014. 8 1/2 years ago and yet here were still are.

The only thing that hasn't changed is pointless threads being made on the forum.
And this is a thread suggesting the game is not dying. It's my attempt to say I was wrong in the past, and have changed my opinion.

Warning: this is going to be a bit passive aggressive in response.

maybe some (including me, I admit) have suggested that Elite Dangerous is a dying game
What kind of insight are you looking for into the revelation that a game is dying? Will you finally be able to decide whether to move along or not?
What the lesson you're looking for in the question?

Many people seek acknowledgement from peers, to belong to a group of likeminded. It's hard to see how that would work out well in this situation though.

I wanted to see how Elite Dangerous compares to other MMO's currently still going
How did you determine the others are still going and that ED isn't?
Which indicates you're not asking if ED is dead, you've already concluded and your OP is just an attempt to stir up some drama instead of being a investigation.

Regardless of that, why does it matter at all anyway?
I'll write it off in my book as 'drama'. :)

I think a game being dead or alive is more complex than just the number of people playing it. Last I checked, X4 has way less people playing it than Elite, but it's getting a huge update that will greatly improve the game, so it's very much alive in my book. Of course numbers matter more if you're primarily interested in social gameplay or your game relies on players for content, which a single-player game like X4 does not. I'm guessing Starbase would be pretty dead without other players, since I don't believe it has any meaningful NPC presence or PvE gameplay.

We can blame TJ for that.

TJ is innocent.

Nothing lasts forever, so I'm sure this game will finally push up daises someday too.
But I ain't worried about it - I'll play it until either I'm bored with it, I'm dead, or it's dead.
Of course, as others brought up, ED ain't just on Steam, so there's that.

Maybe by the time this thing goes belly-up, Star Citizen might be sniffing beta development ... who knows.

If you read my first post in this thread you'll notice I only mention one game is dead, Starbase. You might also notice I mention reviews and discussions for Starbase say it's dead. And to answer how I determine if a game is still going or isn't, I don't, all I did was post some numbers that are on the site Steam Charts. That site says people are still playing those games. All I've done is repost that information.

Why does any of this matter? Because we all can change our opinions if we are open to that and open to admitting when we're wrong.

I think some people here have understood the OP wrong. The OP is not saying ED is dead, but on the contrary, ED is still alive and quite well. It's not surprising that some players get very emotional with this subject, but in business every product manager should from time to time ask the question:"Is my product still worth producing?" I have a strong feeling that internally at Frontier the answer is still "Yes".

There i realized, that must be some kind of comedy... 😂

Frontier can be glad, they have such patient players... or they just gave up?

Just some examples... mining/PWA issues, Scarab drive behaviour, ADC and the thruster theme at all, bad UI... Is there anything in game free of bugs and frustrating design? Last one, missing mission boards for weeks, after a big war started, weeks while many players had holidays... and we are still here... ;)
That sounds like an abused person

Gamers have a very unhealthy habit of attaching themselves to these games to the point it's cultish. Great for the developer tho. No suprised you have certain people in here who get emotional.

Where on Earth would our knowledge of ED be without Steam charts? My gosh, we'd be lost.

I have 3 accounts on PC (will not be including the one on XB because, you know, it can't be on Steam, not to mention it was knee-capped).

Two Are on Steam, one is from a launcher on my desktop. This means your Steam chart is 33% too low. Done, close thread.

Thank you for emphasizing that, I was rash with my reading. I apologise for that.
And I was reacting to the fact that these threads pop up twice a year.
