this sudden black screen glitch is driving me nuts

Hey everyone, CMDR purpl3 h4z3 here. I hope you guys are having a wonderful day.

Unfortunately, me and my game is having a bad day.
Everytime i load the game, and play for 5 minutes, this glitch happens. The screen get all black, and i can't do nothing, except for CTRL+ALT+DEL and kill the ED task.
Please, someone is having this issue too? And maybe have some idea of what can i do to fix this? Maybe it's the trash Frontier coding?
Any help is welcome.
I could not upload the video here, the file is too large to be uploaded, so i made it on YouTube.

Never had this in all those year. So doubt you can blame the 'trash frontier coding'

Very annoying. Id start with reinstalling the gpu drivers. Good luck on your hunt

You do video recording while play. Try just play without doing videos and / or playing yourtube on BG.
See if "black" happens yet.
I would put my bet on video recording soft.

I've used the native Windows 10 capture software (WIN+ALT+R shortcut) just for record the glitch. This happens even without any kind of record software. I doubt if this is the case.
This does not rule out hardware or non-Elite software issues.
Why not? Since only Elite has this glitch?

Elite may well be more demanding, or leverage the hardware differently, than any of your other games. Unless you've exhaustively stress tested the system in applications demonstrably more demanding than Elite, you cannot rule out a more general hardware or software issue.

Can't rule out it being a bug with Elite, but the client crashing to a black screen, with no instance transition, is extremely unusual.

What's that "received: 0" thing at the end in the left buttom corner?
Looks like a network issue and no more bytes are received.

using msi afterburner try temporarily lowering the core clock using the slider 50mghz .........….
does it still black out but sound continue?
if its cured get someone to give that card a dam good repasting is my advice

On the small log in screen, go to options. Look for something called 'validate intergity of files' ( or something like that). Let it run its course ( may look like nothing is happening). I have a black screen the moment I launch. Verify intergrity of files realised it hasnt finished downloading!!
This might help...

So, the black screen glitch happened just now, even after the recent game update. I still maintain my bet that it is a new glitch, and exclusive to Elite, considering that any other game runs normally on my rig. My PC is not from the latest generation, however, I can play anything on it without problems.
Can you induce another crash then check event viewer for any warnings or errors?
What kind of warning or error should i look for? There a ton of events, and honestly, i don't know how to search for things there. Any help will be welcome.

I'm doing this right now, but what is the difference between doing this in the launcher, or in the Steam by verifying the integrity of games files?

I've already changed the thermal paste, but this glitch keeps happening, and ONLY on Elite. As i say, any other game runs fine. No sudden black screens.
Also, i've updated all my GPU drivers, and rolled back for a few previous versions of it, and the glitch keeps happening on Elite.

Elite: Dangerous is uncommonly demanding. It's not the most demanding game I play, but it's in the top five. There is also next to zero correlation between age of title, or how good it looks, and how demanding it can be. For example, Cyberpunk 2077 with everything, including RT, maxxed out peaks at almost 80w lower on the GPU than Odyssey and Path of Exile, which is an aging isometric action RPG, is hotter than either.

Every game will also leverage different aspects of the hardware.

Any error or warning related to the game executable or any driver. Custom views -> Administrative events should filter things sufficiently if you look at it soon after the crash. If it's swamped with unrelated errors, something more fundamental is likely wrong.

Reducing GPU core and memory clock could rule out a hardware issue in ways that just ensuring temps are normal can't.

If your glitch was exclusive to ED, I'd think we'd see more reports of it happening.

When it happens note the time on your local PC. Then when you go to Event viewer look at the approximate time for events that are warnings or errors. Reading through them should be informative.

I'd also verify that Wondoze isn't corrupted.

I've lately seen VERY experienced users finding problems that get cured by running DISM and SFC

I suspect that MS updates sometimes doesn't always install correctly and leaves things in a bad state.

HTH

I suspect that MS updates sometimes doesn't always install correctly and leaves things in a bad state.

Nearly every other Windows monthly update and many NVIDIA drivers break a slew of permissions that show up as errors to SFC. They aren't random errors either (unless the system is so unstable that it can't reliably write data without corrupting it), it's Microsoft including free bugs with their updates.

So, I always do "chkdsk /f", "dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth" (scanhealth makes checkhealth redundant), and "sfc /scannow" before and after any major updates.
