Thargoid invasion - Next target systems?

Ahead of the top systems by progress, mind that there is a very large Invasion drive in Pathamon and large Control drives in HIP 20605 and Col 285 Sector TS-Z b14-3. Definitely there is enough time to complete those, however Commanders at the top four Invasion systems should be aware that only 1–2 of them might be expected to finish; quite possibly only HIP 20899, and potentially none of them.

Top targets at 08:45 31st January 3309:
HIP 20899 Invasion 66% — Indra 23 Ly, 3 ports, 2990 Ls planet attack
Garongxians Invasion 60% — Leigong 28 Ly, 4 ports, 5890 Ls planet + 5991 Ls planet attack, 6148 Ls outpost damage
Jeng Invasion 50% — Oya 23 Ly, 1 port, 1587 Ls outpost attack, 2194 Ls outpost damage
Elboongzi Invasion 46% — Oya 27 Ly, 3 ports, 907 Ls outpost attack

Rising very sharply:
HIP 20605 Control 44% — Indra 26 Ly, empty
Pathamon Invasion 44% — Leigong 22 Ly, 5 ports, 104 Ls planet + 2695 Ls outpost attack
Col 285 Sector TS-Z b14-3 Control 42% — Hadad 22 Ly, empty

Probably the Challenger would make a better platform to run extra weapons.

I am constructing one of those at present! I am not looking forward to the lower speed, but hopefully the additional damage changes the rhythm suitably to match that.

then the player proceeded to open fire. sure I could not hurt them... but equally they could barely hit me and I just flew in circles around them whilst my FSD
reset then jumped out after losing 10% hull in my unshielded ship.

Miraculously as far as traders who fly paper planes are concerned, it turns out that stacking Hull reinforcement with Heavy Duty engineering also gives a lot of thermal, kinetic and explosive resistance, and having a two-small-one-large Module reinforcement set keeps all of your systems online. It is almost as if everybody should be doing that habitually!

I know! This stupid wake-blur really bugs me, too. Been meaning to ask about that anyway! The weird thing is, in some youtube vids I watched, there didn't seem to be any of that blurring. Wonder if there is some graphic setting that reduces or negates it?

I know not what most of the settings are, though I can say that the Interceptor refraction still occurs after disabling Blur and Bloom, which I may leave disabled for a sharper view generally. I will continue disabling more settings later!

had my 1st meeting with a would be player killer this evening. seems they didn't want to go after ships which could fight back instead attacking ships with weapons which could not hurt them.
I must admit it was educational. the interdiction was strange to the point it felt broken. it was a piece of cake to keep the blue in my sights...... however despite being square in my sights my krait was no match for the fdl and within 10 seconds I lost the interdiction even though I should have been winning it according to my screen at least.

either there is something I don't know .... or it bugged out.

then the player proceeded to open fire. sure I could not hurt them... but equally they could barely hit me and I just flew in circles around them whilst my FSD
reset then jumped out after losing 10% hull in my unshielded ship. I arrived at the thargoid battle and it was bugged out so gave up and played deep rock galactic instead.
Wonder if its the same guy who came after us once. He started with hounds of all things. I guess he assumed we weren't shielded? Its easy to see I was. Didn't do any damage just annoying. We were done anyway. I don't have time to waste on such people so we left and promptly added to the block list.

I'm kinda getting a little salty with the major player groups. AXI still has Desurinbin and HIP 26688 up as targets and I see from the DCoH board that Op Ida and PDES are trying to push Pathamon this late in the game. I'm expecting a pivot probably from AXI later today or tomorrow, but they really need to abandon their initial targets if they're not seeing the regular player base rally behind them and re-assess. This usually seems to happen but for some reason not as quickly this cycle...

Otherwise, we get broad horizontal progress and no recoveries. :(

Of those rising systems, Pathamon actually is the choice I can understand—it has an attacked planetary port at 104 Ls from arrival, which is mildly convenient for combat but overwhelmingly useful for evacuation. Having those two rising evictions is indeed quite brazen though, and there must be some progress threshold which makes a system easier to complete despite having longer travel times.

I would support very much the notion of most Commanders agreeing to treat the latter Monday–Tuesday–Wednesday interval as being the best time to drop any named targets and instead finish the top targets. The efforts of other Commanders have named those targets!

Hopefully the changes today will introduce the announced top-five-per-state display, and that the agency problems acknowledged by Derin and Arthur become the next thing to address after that.

Due to update 14.02 or otherwise, the first full check after said update shows not much movement, so at the moment I can not recommend attempting more than one or two more Invasions this cycle. Definitely keep watch for surges at the systems below, though—they gained a lot of progress very quickly earlier!

Top targets at 19:40 31st January 3309:
HIP 20899 Invasion 70% — Indra 23 Ly, 3 ports, 2990 Ls planet attack
Garongxians Invasion 66% — Leigong 28 Ly, 4 ports, 5890 Ls planet + 5991 Ls planet attack, 6148 Ls outpost damage

Not recommended without concentrated effort:
Jeng Invasion 54% — Oya 23 Ly, 1 port, 1587 Ls outpost attack, 2194 Ls outpost damage
Elboongzi Invasion 48% — Oya 27 Ly, 3 ports, 907 Ls outpost attack
Pathamon Invasion 46% — Leigong 22 Ly, 5 ports, 104 Ls planet + 2695 Ls outpost attack
Desurinbin Invasion 44% — Cocijo 25 Ly, 7 ports, 455k Ls planet + 456k Ls planet attack
HIP 20605 Control 44% — Indra 26 Ly, empty
Col 285 Sector TS-Z b14-3 Control 42% — Hadad 22 Ly, empty

Indeed we have a new Galaxy map option in update 14.02, although one has to check the appropriate page and to scroll down quite far to reach the important top five Invasion and Controlled systems. I can only hope that it helps with activity focus!

Actually, for the record, Pathamon is not a last minute choice. It was chosen as our second target after HIP 20019 but we detoured to HIP 23716 to help finish that first because Ida helped us out in 20019 so we returned the favour. It got 2 systems saved in record time by the end of the weekend. Pathamon also belongs to a player faction, Dogs of Lore, and we try to help as many of them as we can. If Pathamon and Garongxians can be done it only leaves Jementi at that maelstrom and so another maelstrom will be free of re invasions for a couple of weeks while AX commanders try to clear some of the controlled systems around the systems saved so far in an effort to stop those re invasions, as they are currently attempting in Hadad.

Also for the record our strategy from the start has always been to do our initial targets then take a realistic look at what could be done for the rest of the week, and go and do those.

As usual people assume that because they can't be bothered to understand what others are doing, that gives them the right to decide what they're not doing. Too many people trying to be in charge instead of getting on with something useful.

The consequences of imperfect coordination aren't all that severe, either. With near-perfect coordination, 12 systems a week could be won. In a week like this where there's a lot of systems around 50%, perhaps only 8 will be won.

That sounds like a big difference, but the Thargoids are putting down about 80 new attacks each week. So looking from that side, the difference between what we have and what we theoretically might have if everyone focused on a single system and moved in unison to the next, is "do the Thargoids gain 68 systems or 72 systems this week?".

It's not worth worrying about what other players are or aren't doing over consequences so minor.

I stand corrected! Sorry for the saltiness! Sometimes mid week when you look at the numbers you start to worry whether or not things will complete and if the fight was worth it. I hope FDev reconsiders the Thargsday mechanic in the future.

yep . apparently missions have gone up tho.
I guess doing it this way FD are trying to encourage people to wing up ,(more emphasis on missions which multiply pay and kill count but only if in a wing )

Not to put that suggestion down but not every one have friends that play or that anyone accepts you're request in game !

I reckon they've seen our wallets and placed the cost of living as a factor.

HIP 20899 closing soon, and I am quite sure that Garongxians will have an attractive enough progress amount that it should be able to follow. Provisionally I suggest not expecting much more, although definitely use that new Galaxy map view to keep a look-out for anything which might become an obvious completion candidate. Fresh Alert activity spotted in H Puppis, Hez Ur and Liu Huang!

I suspect quite strongly that Control systems were changed some time yesterday, given that only around 12 hours passed between spotting the first point in Hyades Sector ZZ-O b6-6 and that system becoming complete. Of course, they should now have just changed once again to introduce Conflict Zones; these were purported to be at the front line Control systems, and if so, one wonders what qualifies as the "front".

Top targets at 01:15 1st February 3309:
HIP 20899 Invasion 86% — Indra 23 Ly, 3 ports, 2990 Ls planet attack
Garongxians Invasion 78% — Leigong 28 Ly, 4 ports, 5890 Ls planet + 5991 Ls planet attack, 6148 Ls outpost damage

With care:

Indeed, more Commanders are already forming impromptu Wings. I was just at Parsons in HIP 20899 and received a Wing invite, and we ended up destroying a double-Hydra at the end with both myself and another Commander having shared a one-Hydra mission each. The Hydra bonds were 50 million each, the zone completion was another 50 million bond, and those Wing missions were 30 million each.

Yes - I've seen reports elsewhere that groups have thrown in far more than enough effort to get a pip previously, with no effect.
