Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

There is no point that id just refuse to play the game if it is "released" in 10 years and is good.

The point is, its not about it being released in 10 years and being good. Its about accepting what is there now and anything else is "nice". In other words, you were convinced to give CIG money based on what they said they could deliver, but if they failed to deliver anything approaching that, despite them saying they could do a hell of a lot more for a hell of a lot less, you'd be fine with it?

Yeah, you do you, but if it was me, i wouldn't be so accepting.

Thankfully i never gave CIG a bent copper, so i can just laugh about it all.

EDIT: unless you're saying you gave CIG money knowing CR was an incompetent liar and was just happy to get something half baked from him?

Me too I guess... a resigned and apathetic; whatever happens, happens :)

I don't think you (or sovapid) fit that first answer. Saying they don't care, that the game is released, implies a very different stance from what you've projected here (and i guess sovapid as well).

Anything else is nice?

Nah, i'm not buying that from you.

Not really about that, it's about just winging it... no matter how p'd off we might be as individuals about how it is...realistically, there's not really much to do about it bar bleating uselessly on a forum or (spit) reddit. The time for that righteous preaching and marching off into the sunset with your cash back in your wallet is well past...I took the chance when it was available and withdrew my monetary support but bought back in a year later...for better or worse.

I'm sure @sovapid is much of the same mind. I always find the folks with less tolerance or acceptance of that status quo are the ones that haven't shoved a penny into the project. Not sunk cost fallacy on our part either, but wanting to support what we think is still a worthwhile project despite the idiot Roberts 🤷‍♂️

me being mad and miserable isnt gonna change anything. but like you said, you do you.

Im saying that I don't believe you fit into that category. You're welcome to tell me i'm wrong, and of course, you know you much better than i do. But your stance doesn't seem to be that you are happy being taken for a ride. I'm not saying you should be mad and miserable but there is a whole range of feelings available to you beyond either that or accepting, and the answer there, as given, seems to be "The game is released, and its good enough, so anything else is just gravy on top"

Maybe i'm just misreading the answer.... but i guess the comments that go along with those votes are very much along the lines of "SC is the best game ever, i've had more fun in SC than any other game i've ever played. I love it so much i've spent thousands of dollars on it so far!"

Then we are reading the poll answer in a very different way.

As a philosophical argument in the vacuum that may have merit, I would even agree. But the thing with that is that it is not really a plausible scenario at all. Bringing it up in the context of Star Citizen does not make any sense. Just look at the history of the past 12+ years of development. And the record of the more money spent in developing a video game ever with half a billion used in it for what we have today.

The poll options aren't really that inclusive...they offer options tailored for the extreme cultist down to the mildly interested fan boy. There's really no realistic option for the ultimately cynical multi year veteran backer still playing the game regularly but just letting the development go as it goes 🤷‍♂️

Always the problem with polls, and we saw what happened with polls on FD's forums and why FD eventually banned them. Its possible to craft polls to give you the narrative you want.

Looks like this poll succeeded.

Yeah, maybe. The quoted poll is what established the hypothetical, not me.

probably more the poll options. not exactly happy about how things have gone. but starting up in 2017 i knew what i was getting into and this outcome was possible (if not almost certain in hindsight).

i've had a lot of fun in SC. if it gets back to a point where i think i'll have fun/do have fun, i'll play it again.

the amount of money is somewhat irrelevant. the amount i've pledged is absolutely silly. could be the best game in the world and i'd never really get my money's worth by normal metrics. but its fine. i spend money on stupid things that make me happy. i could list all the other dumb stuff i've bought.

like how much i've spent on world of warships. lol

Silly in a good way or silly in a bad way?

i could list all the other dumb stuff i've bought.
