Yesterday I moved my carrier from Deciat to Upsilon Aquarii, to hopefully be reasonably close to a system with Thargoids in it, without having to make too many jumps in my Krait MkII to get to it with its 26-odd LY jump range it now has, after a visit to Farseer to upgrade the FSD (sounds like "Friendship Drive.")

Upsilon Aquarii isn't that close to any though as it turned out and will still be 8 jumps in the Krait to get to Liu Huang that's currently being invaded by cabbages. Ideally I want somewhere that's only say, two or three jumps at most for the Krait if I can find one.

I tried setting a carrier jump to Cephei Sector BV-Y b2 which seems to be close to Liu Huang, but keep getting a "Carrier jump request failed" message. So right now I'm still searching the galaxy map...

I've been looking at this thread:

So any attempt I make will be co-ordinated with the community goals, but as my Krait is only set up to attack Scouts realistically I'm not sure if my effort would have much effect on that anyway...

Friendship Drive
I first encountered this when I was previewing an ED video on YouTubus. This kind of prewiev you get by hovering your mouse over the video in the main page recommendations list. It comes with captions.
There was a ship preparing to jump and the caption said "Friendship Drive charging"... That was before I started my career as a commander.
And then there was this video from The High Wake...

Oh how silly of me. Doesn't matter how close my carrier is to the Thargoid system, as long as there's a station of some sort not far away where I can get repairs. :sneaky:

But anyway, I seem to have solved the problem now anyway, by plotting a route from Upsilon Aquarii to Liu Huang for the Krait, then copying the name of the system before it (that I've never visited before,) for my carrier to jump to so even if there's no station there (it's an anarchy system so I guess not) my carrier will be there anyway. So my carrier now has a jump sequence underway to that system which is only one jump for the Krait from where the cabbages are. :geek:

From what I understand, these warzones aren't really designed to be soloed, so every effort counts.
And Scouts seem to be the main cannonfodder out there, so each Scout you get rid of, frees up time for those commanders who are equipped to take on the bigger fish in that bowl.

One of the music tracks in Planet Coaster is "Friendship Drive Engaged":

Ok that's it for now then. Jumped to the Thargoid system in the Krait but got hyperdicted or something by a bleeding great cabbage thingy and not really knowing what to do, my ship was destroyed before I could think about doing anything at all.

So I now have a respawned Krait MkII that's back in my carrier, one jump away from the Thargoids.

So, it's back to the drawing board then...

I can't believe you're still flying a Krait Mk II against scouts. I have failed you epically by not talking you into a Chieftain or Challenger by now.

My apologies.
Thanks but no problem - I was looking for a Chieftain before I got the Krait but couldn't find one, so settled on the Krait in the end but might still try to find a Chieftain (which if I use Inara shouldn't be too hard I guess.)

When hyperdicted, just boost, boost and keep boosting 'till you can jump out / on. Don't even try to see what pulled you out as they are instantly hostile with swarm deployed.

When that happens, it's counter-intuitive, but you need to charge right at it. Put all your power to shields and engine and boost right at it.

They can't turn that well at all, so by the time you get to it and go past it, keep boosting like hell. Your FSD should cool down before he can turn around and close the gap on you and you can escape that way.

Also, launch some heat sinks while you do it to keep your ship cool. It's harder for them to see and target you when you're running cool.

@Fnord Velkor @Marvin the Martian Thanks for that advice guys. I definitely think I'll try to find a Chieftain before I make any more Thargoid attacking attempts.
The reason I like the Chieftain and Challenger more than the Krait Mk II is their turning ability. They can turn on a dime, the both of them, so they can keep their weapons on target much easier than the Krait and in doing so kill quicker.

But the Chieftain can be very "twitchy" sometimes. I prefer the Challenger most of the time for that reason. So if you like VERY responsive handling, get the Chieftain. If you like a bit smoother response that's still really quick, get the Challenger.

I do have them both for a reason though: they're both really, really good at killing scouts.

For Hyperdictions I zero the throttle until I am back in space then hit boost and go to full throttle then I turn as far away from the Thargoid as possible, boost, if it is still in range (usually not) target it to see what it is , hit boost repeatedly until I can jump again.

Of course this is currently in my Orca which does 507 without boosting which saves me a lot of heat sink ammo.

The Thargoids have somewhat limited speed, so speed really helps in escaping. You want to be able to maintain greater than 430m/s if possible.

Unless it's a Basilisk (more rare, but still happens). Those guys can go 530m/s so it's harder to escape. I got blown up by a Basilisk once (this was not during a hyperdiction, though). I just couldn't outrun it.

PS the Challenger is awesome

Yes, it is. Mine is named USS Atlanta after the WWII Cruiser of the same name.
