"Please purchase/redeem Elite Dangerous to continue"

Greetings fellow commanders.
My son is having this problem with the Epic free ED promotion. It says that his email address is already in use, most likely because he's previously played ED on Xbox. He's tried everything to get it to work, sadly, to no avail. If he uses the email address tied to his xbox and epic account (same email address), it just says "Please purchase/redeem Elite Dangerous to continue" .

I also have the game on my Epic account, but have not installed it yet. Since I also played the game heavily on Xbox one X, it's likely I'll have the same issue.

Is there currently a fix available for this?

Thanks in advance. O7

You'll need to create a second account with Frontier that isn't currently linked to a previously installed version of the game. So you'll need a different email address. Create the account and then link it to the Epic game when you install it.

So rather than fix the current situation, "just make a new account" is the way forward?
That's not really a fix though is it.
Also, besides having to get him to actually create another email address, it'll be different than the one on his Epic account, so that'll not work either.

There must be an official way of linking account emails for multiple platforms.

.,.

.. but yes it is. The problem is that your game progress, assets, etc are all stored on the servers and tied to your Frontier account - each frontier account requires a separate email address as that is what you log-in with.

You can use an email alias - so their current email with an additional bit - depending on the provider - gmail can be a number etc - maybe that will suffice for your son.

Like the Scotsman said, it all has to do with where your CMDR's data is stored. The game is tied to your FDev account. You'll need a separate account for each copy of the game you have.

I thought there was a way to sign into your xbox account in the EPIC launcher allowing you to play on PC the game from XBOX. Use the sign in under XBOX when signing into the EPIC/ED launcher.

EDIT for pics

I'm having the same issue. I got the game through Epic Games and registered an account but when trying to login it says "please purchase redeem elite dangerous to continue". I tried reinstalling but that didn't work so I'm not sure what to do. Seems that the Frontier to Epic Games integration and account linking is broken or not functioning properly.

I was having this issue. Installed via Epic launcher. the Elite: Dangerous Launcher required me to link my Epic games account. I did so, then was left with two buttons, Login or Link account.

if I tried to link account, it took me to a frontier webpage that said the account had already been linked to a user.

if I hit login, it would send a verification code to my email, which when punched in would return with "Please Purchase/Redeem to continue".

if I tried to close the launcher, it would tell me to first complete linking my account before closing, and would refuse to close it.

I eventually forced-closed the launcher, and reloaded via my epic games library, and now the Elite: Dangerous launcher has only a Play option, and I have now launched the game accordingly.

if you have already linked your epic games account and it's still fighting you, try force closing the launcher, because it seemed to get me out of the loop.

Thank you for the tips above, they sadly didn't make any difference. I retried using a another email account since nothing seemed to be working and now I'm getting this error message when I try to launch the game: "Exception initializing application: Objektreferensen har inte angetts till en instans av ett objekt". I'm on a Swedish Windows so the translation would be "The object reference has not been provided in an instance to an object." My guess would be that it is missing some dependent Windows software libraries?

Probably a ".net" issue ...

Good luck

I have submitted a support ticket. Tried disabling GEForce program as suggested but no joy.

Tried rebooting PC a few times too.

I reported the problem with Epic Support but it seems that they can do nothing as it was sourced from Frontier. I have updated the support ticket and asked for a status report regarding the diagnosis but no response whatsoever. I do not think they should be overwhelmed now due to the Elite offer. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them! For the first time in years I was really looking forward to getting stuck into a game and I have been thwarted.

I have included a logfile, screenshots and invoice details but nothing comes back.

... but nothing comes back.

Frontier Support are exceptionally good - I have never seen them have to say that they may not be able to respond to all within 7 days - so yes they are overwhelmed by the Epic failure...

"Response time: Up to 7 days.
We are experiencing higher than normal ticket volumes, and may not have capacity to answer queries within seven days. Please be assured, any tickets sent will be addressed in the shortest time possible."

Patience should be rewarded ... good luck

I have 2 accounts on PC, 1 for steam ( my main) 1 for epic games ( 2nd). Main works and runs fine, epic games one just asks for my login details then my code from e-mail then asks me to link / purchase to elite dangerous. This game on epic has been running fine since i got it it. I went to frontier to login to the account setup for the epic version but keeps looping back to the login page. Earlier i was getting a lot of disconnects on leaving spaceports and stations so there probably might be a problem that will be getting looked into or maybe related to the combat money rewards changes being tested, i will keep trying to login every 20 mins.

Alright, I had this issue and I wasn't gonna bother posting the fix but I can see how much this throws people so this is what you gotta do.
On your frontier login, you've linked with the EPIC GAMES platform ... go to the frontier website and login with your epic games login. When you do that, UNLINK EPIC GAMES!
Now with your STEAM account, simply use the frontier logins that you've just unlinked, and now it'll be attached to the STEAM version of the game.
The reason this happens is because you likely have the BASE version of the game on EPIC and the ODYSSEY version on STEAM. It doesn't like the different versions so unless you have ODYSSEY on BOTH steam and Epic, you'll always get this issue.

Now your data is saved to your FRONTIER account NOT epic games / steam, so you can always keep your progress even if you're jumping between platforms.
Remember when you xfer the account to steam, unless you buy odyssey on epic, you wont be able to link both at the same time.

Hope this helps one person. x
