Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

The Thargoids have somewhat limited speed, so speed really helps in escaping. You want to be able to maintain greater than 430m/s if possible.

Unless it's a Basilisk (more rare, but still happens). Those guys can go 530m/s so it's harder to escape. I got blown up by a Basilisk once (this was not during a hyperdiction, though). I just couldn't outrun it.

PS the Challenger is awesome
Thanks! I'm a bit of a ship collector anyway, so might get a Chieftain AND a Challenger.

If you have the cash, do it. You won't be disappointed. In fact, I jumped on the new "invasion stripes" paint job for the Chieftain the instant it came out. It's named the USS Laffey after the WWII Cruiser of the same name.

@Fnord Velkor @Marvin the Martian Thanks for that advice guys. I definitely think I'll try to find a Chieftain before I make any more Thargoid attacking attempts.

I totally disagree with the martian (I won't bother linking people that ignore me). To me it seems stupid to head towards a swarm and also risk the shutdown field. What @aRJay says is what I do and it has never failed me.

BTW - I have a Krait MkII with the ax multicannons and it works fine against scouts in a CZ - I just jump out when an interceptor appears.

What's up with CZ's atm?

Just had a virus upload that failed - even though it had uploaded... on relog i had no virus to upload ;p

Think there might be a new bug, with the Apex service - seems one can't select an in-system target for a long-range booking... unless you go out & try again - much like the FC bug in 14.01 ...is this a new server-side "whack-a-mole" mini game i wonder ;]

So back to the ring rendering conversation we were having I don't remember how long ago; I'm doing some Robigo Mine runs to replenish some materials and get used to flying with a HOTAS.

Here's the rings leaving Robigo Mines:

And here's the rings when I get back:

That's not an Nvidia thing. That's an Odyssey / FDev thing.

I found them, I guess Steam puts them in a different place, C:\Users\Your Name\Saved Games\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous. Lots of stuff in there.

That's exactly what the %USERPROFILE% address that I gave you does. The %USERPROFILE% saves you typing the C:\Users\Your Name\ ...

Similarly %LOCALAPPDATA% makes the address for %LOCALAPPDATA%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Binding easier to pass on to people as one doesn't need to give a path which needs "yourname" to be changed.

The Type 6 seems to be a capable ship for material collecting. It is nimble enough to scoop up materials floating in space if you run out of Limpets and quite good for precise planetary landings. And on top of that, this:
close recall.jpg

I had to recall the ship after accidentially sending it away and it landed right behind me. This was the closest one, but any recall landing was around and mostly below 500m in a flat, easy to reach spot. My Cobra would usually land about 1,000+m away, even in a place like the one above. And it would usually require some serious rock crawling to get there.
