Finding Raw Materials on a Planet

I got the Tellerium at a crash site on Koli Discii C6a at 28.5777 x 7.2193. I got this from a pinned comment at a D2EA video.
Now I have a pre-engineered FSD and can jump 52LY instead of 32LY.
My next step will be to unlock the Guardian FSD Booster.

One question about this pre-engineered module. I read:
"Applying any other Engineering modifications to this module will remove the bonus second modification, but an Experimental Effect can be safely added or replaced."
How do you apply an experimental effect without modifying it? I just want to know so I don't accidentally remove the second modification.

You don't need a pre-engineered FSD to get to HIP 36601, it was possible to get to it before the pre-engineered FSD was available.

Try getting the Guardian FSD Booster unlocked and engineer the FSD drive and you will be good.

That's one hell of a lot more materials grind and system hops than is required to get the pre-engineered FSD isn't it? - Meta Alloy + mats & data scans, Guardian blueprints & engineering components...

I've not done this so BEWARE!

From the description it looks like you need to go to one of the Engineers that does FSD's to begin with, then select the modified FSD when prompted for which module to upgrade, then tab down to FSD Jump Range (the upgrade indicated on the FSD).

You should see the grade 5 upgrade bar already ticked, highlight that and then select 'add experimental effect' and you should be ok.

The warning is about applying a different upgrade other than increased jump range (for example reduced mass or one of the other ones listed).

The materials for the guardian FSD booster don't seem too bad.
Getting manufactured materials and data is easy to get anyway. It's the raw materials which are difficult.
That guardian stuff for the FSB booster is supposed to come from 1 planet..... if they didn't change that. Gonna try this soon though.

Yes they are available on one planet (although you might as well get weapon blueprints for other guardian tech when you're out there so that's a second site and the guardian beacons if you want the remote ships), its more the travel to them, especially if you don't have decent jump range to start with (getting the meta-alloy and data scans can be a pain but at least you only have to do it once) although once you have an engineered FSD its not that far.

The real killer in terms of grind is the shear repetitiveness and time it takes to get the blueprints - you have to drive around to activate the pillars (twice - once to get them to pop-up out of the ground and once to charge them), deal with all the guardian defenders, and put a relic into the machine to get 1 blueprint - bring plenty of refuel and rearm mats, your gonna need them....

For the mats themselves its shooting pillar covers off and then collecting the mats that don't always like to obey the laws of gravity and physics and stick high-up on the pillars requiring Scarab gymnastics to get or dislodge them (you can't shoot them down), its a truly frustrating, repetitive and time consuming grind-fest to "stock-up" rather than just grab one or two blueprints.

Since you need blueprints to buy each and every Guardian item rather than once to unlock and normal mats/goods to buy you need to do all the above and then re-log and rinse/repeat many (so many) times otherwise you'll be flying back and fore to Guardian sites in your sleep.....

That's what I meant by "more mats grind" its a real grind-fest!

For now I just wanted to get the Guardian FSD booster which I just did. I don't want to get sidetracked for my current objective which is to easily get to HIP 36601 and do raw materials farming for engineering. I should be able to do that now with my 60LY jump range.
It was kinda confusing to get that Guardian blueprint because the hole for the relic did not light up after charging the pillars. But I just tried to jettison the relic into the hole anyway and that seemed to work.
So... going to HIP 36601 one of these days :)
