In addition to candidly confirming that they have not been really working in server meshing for quite a while (min 07:21) they also introduce the idea that Pyro will be in the game before meshing. PES and SM was originally designed to be developed side by side, late 2020, that didn't work so they concentrated on PES.
I think it was late 2021 when they said they had PES working internally, we got it for NDA testing a few months later.
What Chris said should be 3 months of testing actually ended up 9 months, but it is working now.
On to the next thing, so far as these so called Jesus or milestone tech things go it does look like we are now on the final one, tho having said that i think full Vulkan API conversion is necessary with it.
Given that Pyro is apparently done there is no reason to hold that back and make it dependent on SM if its not necessary, IMO the smart thing to do would be to put it in ASAP in which ever way they can, because if they can to chose not to is suicidal, making people wait for a back end technology they are not even supposed to notice is there just because reasons would be a daft choice.
They needed PES as the foundation to build SM on, i get that, i think what they should do now is branch builds from it, 3.18 that is, one with SM and one without but with Pyro, the branch with Pyro can be scrapped once the branch with SM and Pyro is done.
