Frontier: Please tell us what you're working on that isn't narrative

In light of the promise to actually communicate what you're working on, can you please tell us what's coming that isn't connected to the narrative?

We understand that you don't want to spoil the narrative, but surely you're working on parts of the game that aren't related to the upcoming narrative?

How come the "key feature overhaul" hasn't been revealed? The roadmap is too vague to even constitute a roadmap, it pretty much reads as "2023 - something".

Are there any plans to create more biology species?

Are there any plans to open up more atmospheric planet types to explore?

Are there any new ships coming?

The team is doing a great job, it's just... Far too small.

If you only have a few multi talented people to squeeze on, that's the pace of content and updates you get.

I feel bad for the few devs still involved with Elite, and hope they're not under too much pressure from above.

Big love to the devs, as well as the community managers, and a certain finger to whoever allocates resources.

What if... there isn't anything, and that's the reason they keep quiet?

"hey guys, we heard the community's shouts for better communication and transparency. so we've decided to tell you, we're working on..... something! and it's coming in Early 2023! how early i hear you ask? one day, and it will be something. Cheers."

This is Frontier's much praised and improved communication apparently.

You know if I had started my career with a certain game ....and then nearly 50 years latter the latest varient of that same game - designed and released by my own company - was left to die a slow and neglected death on the vine ...well lets just say as I get older - the things I focused on in my youth become more and more important to me for some reason . I'm surprised the "Author" is not committing himself to focusing more on ED in his latter years . Maybe it's just me and how I look back at things .

How is it being left to die???

You have to consider what it's an improvement on, though, which is hopelessly optimistic statements about timescale or content or (implied) quality which then rarely actually got met.

"Something! In early 2023!" is about the level of detail I trust them to actually meet reliably, and is a big improvement over talking at great length about stuff which doesn't actually happen.

But they have also given out other information about what will and won't be in Update 15 (source: various CM posts between U14 release and now):
- it will contain a fix for at least some of the map problems in CQC
- it won't contain a complete reworking of their server caching architecture to speed up BGS tick visibility
- the "key feature overhaul" is connected to the Thargoid story in some way
- the majority of focus for U15 and U16 is on support for the current storyline (which answers your questions about ships and lifeforms)
- by implication, they're not currently working on any Odyssey-intensity multi-year projects (which answers your question about new planet types)
- there are a number of bugs that they're aware of (and by implication would at least like to include a fix for) though they're not committing to those fixes making it into U15 yet

Are the answers to those questions the ones you want? Probably not. That isn't a communication problem.

Well in my opinion only - I don't see anything major being done except endless thargoids / narrative extensions which I imagine are less expensive for the remaining development team to generate . No major new content beyond that - no obvious fixes or releases for existing game loops . Maybe I've been spoiled by the NMS crew .

This thread is DOOOOOOOMED!

But seriously, as you should know, that information is CLASSIFIED SECRET, and classified information will only be disseminated to appropriately cleared personnel on a need-to-know basis.

Powerplay is coming. Full, 100% fat screaming Powerplay the likes of which the human mind cannot fully grasp.

and the thargoids come upon such pure utter senseless optimism that they actually weeped. for they did not think humans could perceive reality in terms of a multiversal way in which anything is truly possible. perhaps the culling could be delayed to see if this is just an aberration....

and so that's how humanity survived the thargoid war of the 34th century.
