Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I am trying to decide if something is an “it’s just you” or “working properly” or do I need to try and navigate the issue tracker.

I am evacuating passengers and have been for a couple of weeks or more, how it worked is I start off at the rescue ship and select the bookmark for a planetary base in trouble and the route guides me there with no issues on the way back the mission target options let’s me set up a route all the way back to the rescue ship. This week the route only seems to plot part way eg in the Galaxy map I get taken to the system but no further in the System map I can plot a route to the body and then have to open the planetary map to plot to the base all the plotting can be triggered using the same bookmark at each level, the mission target works the same but is less hassle as fewer map levels are involved. Is it working like this for anyone else?
I am a little confused by what you're writing... Do you use actual bookmarks to plan the route or just the option to open the map provided by the missions?

A proper bookmark (🔖) of a station (space or terrestrial) should usually enable you to plot the route from your starting point to that station in one go.

If it is just the mission's option to open the map, you'd open the galmap with the system of the station marked and would have to open the system map (if available) to find the planet of the station, zoom in on it and find the station to plot the direct route.

I use a proper bookmark for the planet base that I am evacuating (so I can pay attention while in hostile territory) and it used to take me all the way in one go but not this last week.

After accepting the evacuation missions if I go into the galaxy map the mission icon (a globe) glows blue and works like a bookmark, again prior to this last week a single click got me a route to the rescue ship now navigation stops at the star system.

I can get a route all the way to my target based on either system but it is no longer a single click and hold.

I am not using the map option from the mission screen.

Is this an Oddy feature?
The only Bookmarks I know are those you have to set manually (or are set by certain events, like engineer messages).

This is one of the strangest systems I've come across in sometime, the main sequent star was a Herbig AE/BE with ten Brown Dwarfs orbiting it. I found a huge Ammonia world around one of the BD's that used ten engineered probes to map, shown at my current position.

That's okay. I'm pretty sure most other commanders in here knew what you've been referring to.

I guess there aren't many museum pieces around this part of the forum... ;)

And I'm always glad to learn some more about Oddyssey for the day I will be able to open the doors of the museum to get out there.

It’s worth giving it a try, even if your GPU is not quite up to spec - Odyssey is hugely more well optimised now approaching two years after launch than back then… i started with the Alpha on a 4yo* GPU and a secondary OS install - wasn’t until mid last year that i could finally upgrade to one that gives decent framerate with maximum render quality - it’s been a journey an odyssey indeed but well worth it imo :]

*oops, it was an RX 580, though i’d played from the beginning up until Horizons on a 2010 HD 5870

What about after a relog?
I would see the bar move a bit after 80 scout kills on the way from dangerous to deadly.
Nope. Not a bit. I did it after they nerfed it into the dirt I think. You don't get anywhere near the XP you used to get for them. I've had better results just doing regular pirate massacre missions. I can kill 40 to 50 pirates and get 2 to 3%. I kill an equal amount of Scouts I get absolutely nothing.

I make a lot more money killing pirates as well. They've made fighting scouts absolutely worthless.

What am I up to today? Quitting, that's what.
I was 5 systems from the end of a 25 system mini road to riches, in uninhabited system when I get interdicted and bounced by a swarms of things which destroyed me.
Was playing in Mobious private group, on way to HIP 19894, got hit in COL 285 Sector ML-E B 12-2.
'Destroyed by Unknown'
So lost all my collected data and my ship (Can rebuy but really don't feel like it right now).
No warnings of any danger in the system, just destroyed.
Is this someone's idea of fun?
Wasted best part of a week - screw this game.

You went through a maelstrom system and were interdicted by Thargoids. That's on you.

Your destination is highlighted. See all those green stars? Those are ALL controlled by the Thargoids. They are clearly marked. You shouldn't have gone anywhere near those systems if you weren't geared to handle it.

What's more, the system you were headed to, HIP 19894, Is Thargoid controlled, so you would have been killed once you got there, so getting interdicted by them is academic.

You may get some recompense from CS - not guaranteed by any means, but you could give them a try.

I tried to play EDH 4.0 mid September last year, but all I got was a PowerPoint presentation. Almost literally.
It's not that much an issue of the CPU/GPU being not strong enough but a severe lack of RAM*. And I haven't found out how to get some more of that stuff in there, yet. From the looks of it, it would require to ship it to the manufacturer and have them put an extra 8 GB in there... But as I need this thing here on my desk...

*: In some way, it is an odd machine, with an APU and a GPU, but only 8 GB shared RAM for all the three of them.

OK, thanks for the info - my bad.
Trouble is, you get into a routine jumping on a RtR - load the next system into the search bar, click and go - didn't notice the Thargoid activity.
Well I'll take a rest for a while - still devastated but like you say, my stupid fault.
You warriors, get these frikin Thargoids sorted out so us wimps can go about their business :)

I do feel for you. Sometimes, this game can be perticularly harsh on the player. If it were me, I'd logoff, have a nice cup of tea and come back later ;)

So I'm just supposed to instinctivly know that information am I?
It's not instinctive. The map is clearly labeled as I have shown you.

With all the talk on these forums, the main Elite Site, INARA and Twitter being about the Thargoid war, you should have been at least somewhat careful about where you were headed in the bubble.

All you have to do is look at the map rather than blindly going wherever you want to go without giving any thought or care at all about it and then blaming the game when you pay the price for your carelessness.

First sortie with my new (rebuy) Krait MKII after full engineering

Went out to one of my favorite hunting spots in Wolf 363, bounty hunting for 7 mn...
Krait-MKII-Score.jpg

One million per mn is a lot more than I expected from this ship especially after month of absence in this game and not having flown one of these for even longer...

The weapon combination makes everything go boom, FAST.

I didn't use a single shield cell and combat damage was 0%, shields went down to 26% due to a collision with my last target, kills ranges from light to heavy (Anaconda) and I think it is the best ship for bounty hunting, I'll use the corvette for assassination missions, mainly due to combat persistence.

My pilot is Elite, trained her from newbie to this level, her pay rate is still 10% and she flies an XG9 Lance, very good against shields.

On a different topic that frequently popped up, recently...

It seems like the thing with the ship recall issues depend on the ship you're in. I was collecting some raw mats on a fairly flat plane, today. Sent my ICourier away to get to some mats I accidentially parked it on. When I called it back in after some more digging, it landed about 1.2 kms away from me... 🔭
