Update: I've had a reply from Frontier support. To paraphrase, oh dear, what a shame, never mind. Presumably suggesting it's a feature, not a bug.
Ooooouch. That sucksI loaded about 15,000 tons of palladium since yesterday evening, now all gone. And I only got to unload and sell about 12 tons. It appears it has all been sold at about 2,500 credits per ton.
It was in a good cause - enabling the CMDR doing the unloading to be able to afford a carrier. He bought it a couple of hours ago.Ooooouch. That sucks![]()
Well no, you can't sell something you don't have so it makes perfect sense that you can't set a sell order if you don't have the item. The problem is that if you did have items to sell, but then transfer them to your ship (rather than sell), the sell order stays but is hidden. As far as I am aware you'll see it again when you restock, but you would need to check the FC market. It is beyond bizarre that you can't setup orders unless the item is present. Ther are some weird UI choices in this game.
FD just need to clear any sell orders if stock level reaches zero.
Well, that's a crock. Nobody would intentionally design it to work that way.Update 2: After asking support whether they consider this a feature or a bug, the answer is, "The buy and sell order system are functioning as intended".
So there you go. It's a feature!![]()
Interesting. Logically it does make sense, though. You just have to remember to check if you previously had a sell order when you restock.Update 2: After asking support whether they consider this a feature or a bug, the answer is, "The buy and sell order system are functioning as intended".

Yes, but only if you set a sell order in the first place.because it CAN happen.

Why is that a bug? A sell order with zero stock doesn't make sense. The bug is not displaying the Green Triangle marker for Sell orders with 0 stock
Sounds like that IS the bug...Why is that a bug? A sell order with zero stock doesn't make sense.

That's not a bug, though. It does make sense.
For example if you keep exporting the same commodities (a miner for example, or someone selling mission reward commodities).
You may not want to reset your Sell orders every time (there are quite many mission reward commodities for example)
So you will just restock them
Without the marker showing Sell orders for 0 stock materials, you're left with guessing what stuff you just run out of stock... or to check the market.json file![]()

It is, because the sell order is still active, even tho i just run out of stock.
And if it's active, it needs to be marked accordingly in the Commodity market screen, with a green triangle.
