Everything basic zoo animals pack

Considering how much basic animals are needed I thought we could discuss this.
I am really curious of your opinions.

Do you want a pack made out of basic zoo animals?

What animals would you put in it?

These animals that I have chosen are present in nearly all smaller or lower budget zoos and it would be great if we could see them in the game:

1. African or Indian Crested Porcupine - Africa or Asia
2. Reeves muntjac - Asia
3. Coati - SA
4. Serval - Africa
5. Greather rhea - SA
6. Patagonian mara - SA
7. Collared Peccary - SA
WE: Common marmoset - SA

Honorable mentions:
Dromadery - hope to see it in the Drylands pack
Blackbuck - perfect for Anniversary animal

It's the kind of thing I would love in theory but would be hard to sell to casual in practice. My roster, based more on what's most common in North American zoos, would be:

  • North American river otter
  • White-nosed coati
  • Grey crowned crane
  • Crested porcupine
  • Sulcata tortoise
  • Guianan squirrel monkey
  • Patagonian mara
  • Budgerigar (WE)

It's generally hard to define a basic zoo animal pack considering two things - one is many of the staple zoo animals are already ingame and 2 is that my basic zoo animal pack would differ from someone in north America or Australia. We could go on the concept of very common zoo animals according to statistics but that's boring since it's just like domestic goats and such or the rather odd choice of my local zoos which don't really keep any basic set of animals considering there is only 4 zoos in the entire country which all specialise in totally different collections

Really the basic animals in my country have already been covered - like red panda, ring tailed lemur, African lion, red deer, amur tiger etc. For me? A basic animal pack would be worthless. So looking further afield in what kind of animals would one sort of expect in the uk?
  • European Wildcat
  • Some sort of African monkey like a baboon or Vervet monkey
  • Spider Monkey
  • Grey crowned / blue / Eurasian crane - whichever is more appealing
  • Pygmy goat for domestic representation
  • South American coati
  • Eurasian brown bear
  • Blue and yellow macaw (WE)

As others have said, this is strongly dependant on where you’re from. In Australia for example there are relatively few remaining exotic species with a large captive presence that aren’t in the game yet*, but there’s still a ton of native species that have a minimal to non-existent presence in captivity overseas but are super common in zoos here:
  • Short-beaked Echidna
  • Tasmanian Devil
  • Greater Bilby
  • Cotton-top Tamarin
  • Serval
  • Dromedary
  • Little Penguin
  • Spinifex Hopping-mouse [E] (this and the bilby would finally give me the two basic species for a local nocturnal house)
*Did a count with exotic mammals, and it seems there’s only 9 non-domestic species (so not including the dromedary and co) with 10 or more holdings that we don’t have yet, and 7 of those are South American primates!

Red Pandas are also a good example of "what is basic?"

They have become really common in European zoos which are members of EAZA (the "big" places), while the smaller private owned or low budget places in Europe rarely got them.

So are they basic? A lot seem to define basic as something you expect to see in the smaller places. But it could also just refer to common

I think this would be a really great idea for a wrap up pack for a finale/catch all pack at the end of the game...which....at some point will happen, even if not this year at some point next at the latest. But if we were to just do a pack like this right now I think it could prevent other packs from selling as well by taking up some of those more wanted/familiar animals out of the pool of animals to choose from. Nonetheless, in the spirit the thread, and some of these aren't even on my most wanted list.

Red River Hog
Howler Monkey
Cape/Crested/Indian Porcupine
Pygmy/Nubian Goat
Eurasian Otter
Patagonian Mara
Linnaeus Two Toed Sloth
(non?) Walkthrough Exhibit set - Macaws

I had a number of animals that were on the list but didn't make the final cut when I compared some holding numbers. Spectacled Bear, Grey Kangaroo, Masai Giraffe. Since some of these animals will almost surely make it in before the end of the game's official support, these would be good replacements, IMO

I also think something of this type of pack would be best left as sort of a farewell pack as the last DLC of PZ. Would be nice to wrap up the then missing animals that didnt really fit into any of the other upcoming packs. Therefore im just gonna mention some species that i wanna see and cant think of an obvious pack that could include them :)

-Crested porcupine
-Patagonian mara
-Argentine tegu
-Shoebill
-Blackbuck or Nilgai

According to zootierliste, this is the top 50 most common zoo species (at least in Europe):
1. African pygmy goat
2. Blue peafowl
3. Common fallow deer
4. Domestic guinea pig
5. Eurasian eagle-owl
6. Emu
7. Budgerigar
8. Bennett's wallaby
9. Blue-and-yellow macaw
10. Snowy owl
11. Meerkat
12. North American raccoon
13. European white stork
14. Golden pheasant
15. Mandarin duck
16. Green iguana
17. Llama
18. Ring-tailed lemur
19. South American coati
20. European mouflon
21. Greater rhea
22. European wild boar
23. Red-eared slider
24. Shetland pony
25. Black swan
26. Alpaca
27. Miniature donkey
28. Domestic rabbit
29. Bactrian camel
30. Bearded dragon
31. Ball python
32. Red-and-green macaws
33. Wood duck
34. Common marmoset
35. Cameroon sheep
36. Corn snake
37. Central European red deer
38. Patagonian mara
39. Silver pheasant
40. African spurred tortoise
41. Mallard
42. Cockatiel (higher if non-breeding forms count)
43. Cotton-top tamarin
44. Ostrich
45. Barn owl
46. Great grey owl
47. Asian small-clawed otter
48. Boa constrictor
49. Tawny owl
50. Muscovy duck

With this list in consideration, it’s interesting to note how many of these species (especially within the top 20) are already in PZ. Also when considering the list it becomes apparent just how large the void is for birds in PZ. Of the top 10 most common zoo species, 6 of them are birds. And only two of them, the Peafowl and Emu, are in PZ.

In an ideal world I’d love to see large birds species like macaws and birds of prey enter PZ and function as habitat animals (their “flying” animations could just be linked to certain climbing frames or enrichment items). But it’s also becoming painfully aware that PZ is likely nearing its end of official support and “flying” birds that aren’t limited to walkthrough exhibits likely aren’t gonna make the cut, at least in this version of the game. So I’ll propose two pack layouts, my dream option and a more realistic one. Also, for both lists I will try to factor out species that are likely being “skewed” upward in common-ness because of the list being Europe-limited.

Dream Version:
1. African Pygmy Goat
2. Blue-and-Yellow Macaw
3. Snowy Owl
4. Mandarin Duck
5. Golden Pheasant
6. South American Coati
7. Common Marmoset
8. Budgerigar (Walkthrough Exhibit)

Realistic Version:
1. African Pygmy Goat
2. Mandarin Duck
3. Golden Pheasant
4. South American Coati
5. Common Marmoset
6. Shetland Pony
7. Domestic Rabbit
8. Bearded Dragon (Exhibit)

These are all common zoo animals? Really? I haven't been to many zoos, but the ones I have been to have maybe two of the animals listed. Also, why would a marmoset be an exhibit animal?
In Europe nearly every zoo exibit those species.
Marmosets are so tiny I would prefer them as exibit animals.

Something like a zoo classics pack would be nicem but imo should be a scenery pack. It would fit well with the whacky themes of last year and expanding on both the classic and conservation sets could be really fun.
For animals the most logical choice would be imo to have one domestic, one monkey, one duck and the indian crested porcupine, aswell as a common aviary bird like budgies or rainbow lorikeets.
That way we got a good mix of animals that would work for most zoos around the world, with my personal choices being:
  • African Dwarf Goat
  • Cotton Top Tamarin
  • Mallard or Mandarin Duck
  • Indian Crested Porcupine
  • Rainbow Lorikeet

Zoo classics might be a better way to make this pack a reality, we can't really define a basic zoo animal set but a classic pack will definitely have a much clearer theme to follow.

I would be absolutely in love with a such pack!!

Especially for the Coati that is (for me) maybe the last must-have we don't have yet in-game.
But it's almost the same (again for me) about the Porcupine !!
I also LOVE the Mara, a SO underrated strange but so cute animal which is indeed in all the zoos I've visited !
A bird addition is ALWAYS great, and the Peccary is both perfect to add a "farm" vibe and increase the (too small) number of South American animals (this pack is amazing for that).
And of course, Marmosets for walking exhibits is a GREAT idea !! Really !

It would be one of my favorite pack : 9/10 for all these star animals !

I will try::)

South america Coatimundi - 287 holding in Eu!
Sulcata Tortoise - 262 holding in Eu!
Indian Crested porcupine - 209 holding in EU!
Mandarin Duck - 353 holdings in EU!
Reeves's muntjac - 161 holdings in eu!
Patagonian Mara - 239 holding in EU!
Great White Pelican - 161 holdings in EU!
Exhibit: Budgerigar (parakeet) - 529 holdings in EU!

Free Update
A new feature coming to your Llama and Timber Wolves is the breed feature. They (are similar to subspecies or "clones" in that they) have slightly different builds but they can interbreed with the offspring inheriting one of the parents' breed traits. This new feature works in addition to the coloring variants. Welcome the Guanaco to your llama yards! Marvel at the rare Mexican, Indian Desert, and Tundra wolves!

Ultimate Zoo Animal Pack
1) Domestic Horse*
2) Domestic Dog*
3) African Pygmy Goat
4) Sheep
5) Sumatran Tiger
6) Masai Giraffe
7) Grevy's Zebra
8) Small Birds (WE)

All except the Tiger, giraffe and zebra come with multiple coloring similar to the llama.
*Horse Breeds include Arabian, Draft, Warmblood, Akhal Teke and Mustang
*Dogs are the games widest size variations! Breeds include Spitz (smallest being Pomeranian-like largest woolly akita or malamute), Hunting Dog (e.g. Spaniel or Golden Retriever), Herding Dog (Shetland Sheepdogish to collie), Primitive (Chihuahua or Canaan Dog) and Mastiff (Pug being small)

Theres a lot of animals that are easily accessible for zoos and parks and still interesting (especially birds :))) I'd like a pack like this
