Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

A few more pics from yesterday - IC 1805 Sector DQ-Y E3 - the black hole & the nearby Sagan-Class tourist mega-ship...

My SRV is acting freaky today, seems to have a mind of it's own.

Has your SRV been flipped over completely yet, after a target has popped up for an outcrop or metallic meteorite when out collecting salad and you've shot at it to collect the materials? It's happened to me several times now - all you have to do is very slightly bump into the bits of rock with the mats you've destroyed when collecting the stuff and the SRV goes over onto its roof. The only way I know of to fix it is to exit the game, then go into Horizons, which will put you back out in space. Then exit the game again and go back into Odyssey and if there's still any bios there you want, you'll have to land and find them again.

I'm guessing it's a bug...

I was parked on a hill and it wouldn't let me out ...if the handbrake holds, it should be ok to get out? :p

Yep those exploding bits of magnesium, bit like the "rigged" cargo racks with materials... the latter could be booby-trapped but the meteorites etc...?

I always try to avoid those little bits after I've shot it, I usually only go after the phosphorous, sulfur, arsenic and whatever else to replenish what I used to make fuel. Rarely do I come across something I haven't maxed out, I did destroy an SRV once and had to go back to a planetary base (Amundsen I think) to buy another, now I carry two.

I really wish we had an option to exit the SRV on the left side, throws me off exiting on the right.

I would probably have maxed out as well if I'd hung around with those Brain Trees for a fair bit longer, but wanted to move on! I do have a fair amount of most of the mats though. The other day I got some Polonium from a Bronzite Chondrite - most unusual as they usually only drop the common stuff.

Yes I have hit those exploding fragments, it is very annoying if it was something you wanted as it means more searching. I don’t think they have put me right onto my back.

However I have been on my back before in the SRV and rocking it by playing with the throttle, steering and jump jets has usually got me back on the wheels especially if I start into it before the SRV has fully settled. But if there is terrain or sturdy plants to wedge it that might not work.

I take it this requires to be inside the SRV when it happens.
I can't imagine being able to board your SRV while it is tumbling...

My SRV has turned right over a few times as well, just by me being a bit careless on low gravity planets and moons, but lately I've noticed that it automatically rights itself straight away so I'm not sure if FDev has done something recently for that to happen but if they have, then great!

In the case of the SRV flipping over after touching an outcrop or whatever, after I've shot it for the materials it stays that way and no amount of throttle etc (I'm a mouse and keyboard player) puts it back the right way up. The only way I know of is to go into Horizons as I mentioned before. If only a commander could be like Gordon and disembark, then use one of these: :p

That would be helpful in so many ways...

Hehehe - yep, the time-honoured / fool-proof way to dislodge a stuck vehicle in an old FPS we still play is to cover it in grenades and then hit it with a shock combo… :D

…tho using the SRV’s jump jets works best in EDO - they fire downwards relative to driver position, so put 4 pips to engines and jump/boost intensively while steering hard away from the “invisible rock” that you appear to be stuck on - or just hard steer either left or right against the angle of the ground, with plenty of jump/boost if you’re stuck on your back, which normally flips it over - works best with the Scarab, as a Scorpion on its back in high gravity can be a bit like a turtle :)

Thanks. Maybe I'll try that jump jet thing next time it happens. Not sure if even have a binding set for that so I'll have to check...
