Ship shortage?

I have an Epic Alt account for more lowkey gameplay, low cash, low engineering. So when I want to buy a new ship there I like to use the LYR discounts as much as possible. Now I have decided to try out a "zero grind AX Chieftain", and started looking on EDDB where I can buy the components.
So turns out, right this moment there is no place where I can buy a Chieftain with the LYR discount.
Couple of days ago there were LYR places where they had the discounted Chief, but not the military armour, but I figured there was no rush. And now the search turns up entirely empty.
What gives? Does the game really keep track of supply and demand of ships per station? Has there been such a rush for the Chief? I've never seen this happen in the past.
And on this account, it really makes a difference whether I'm spending 87 mil or 70 mil on a ship, believe it or not. :p Not to mention rebuys.

Any idea how long I may have to wait until this changes?

Yes, stations can run out of gear. Dunno how much it actually connects stock levels to stuff that happens but you can run out of stock. Also not sure when it cycles.

Thanks, I'll try some stations with older update states then. =)

In the past I had no problem finding any ship in LYR space. With my main acct I normally simply buy most ships at Shinrarta, but for the real expensive ones like the Cutter I also went to LYR, and got anything I needed without an issue (other than station hopping for the different modules). So this is really an unusual situation for me.

Probably not in that sort of concrete sense, but stock does come and go on a weekly basis.

For Chieftain + LYR you have the issue that only Alliance and Anarchy starports can stock the Chieftain ... and Anarchies are extremely rarely allowed control of anywhere with decent outfitting/shipyard quality, and the Alliance and LYR space don't overlap very much. So it's entirely possible that it only has one or two starports that can sell it even in theory, and they aren't right now ... or maybe some system changed allegiance or some LYR control collapsed, and now there aren't any.

EDIT: okay, so no Alliance+LYR systems at all right now, and only seven anarchies, of which only four have shipyards which are of only moderate quality.

Maybe you're just unlucky with the stock - Ye'kuana, Urvantju and Njokujinun are the only ones I'd expect might have it - or maybe there was an eighth anarchy with a better shipyard last week and now there isn't.

Huh! Is that so! I thought I saw the Chieftain also on Fed stations, but then I must be mistaken. A quick eddb search supports your statement.

And apparently, LYR and the Alliance have absolutely zero overlap right now. If I put only two things into the filter: Alliance and LYR, I get "no results found".
Amazing. That must be new, and maybe caused by the Thargoid war. Weird though that I got at least one result just a few days ago and none now; I guess that is an effect of powerplay then.

Dammit!
Well, looks like I need to farm more money with my Alt after all. :6

If you don't need it ASAP, it's probably better sit on it a little bit longer and keep an eye on availability in LYR space anyway. Your insurance rebuy price is based on the price paid when you bought the equipment. So, with an AX build which could see a few rebuys while you navigate the learning curve, getting the ship at a discount is nice in the long run, and not just in the short-term.

I spent a week or so looking for Reactive Surface Composites for my T-10 in LYR space. Places that Inara said should have them would be out-of-stock when I got there to look for it. And at 2x the cost of the ship it fits (~300m credits) there was no way I was buying them w/o a discount... lol

Arjung had one, but you know what people who support player named factions are like. Make that system Imperial again it'll be sorted though.

As for a Chieftain, again there used to be plenty of systems with these at 15% discount. Put a reasonably sized Li Yong Rui system under the control of an Alliance faction and you're good.

In theory though. People reeeaally like their faction names on systems, regardless of what might be lost as a result. So changing things back will be tricky.

I thought it was the other way around, LYR having to annex an Empire system that sells it.

It's either way really. Arjung is a large enough population and a rich enough economy that it can sell a Cutter (I've bought 2 from there, both with 15% discount). The order it happens in doesn't matter- you just need an imperial aligned faction in control of a suitable station with Li Yong Rui influence.

Well, I don't want to wait for goid knows how long, if ever, an Alliance systems flips for LYR or vice versa, since there's no telling when that will be the case. For all I know it could be a week, could be a year, could be never. So for the time being I bought the Chief and mil armour at standard price and everything else discounted. If the ship ever becomes available with the discount again, I can get a fresh one then and plug all the modules over.

Flipping an entire system to a different faction is definitely more effort than those ~6M savings will be worth, tho. :p
