Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

"First off, the game could have been released as a full standalone 2 years ago, with pretty good ratings. The opted not to and continue in alpha. The alpha tag to star citizen just means "its not perfect yet" i.e. they are still committed to increasing the quality of the game - after 11 years of this. The scope of the game is massive. Impossibly massive. And certain things like Persistent Entity Streaming have never been done in any other game ever, so they are creating new technologies as they go. Although obviously I'm here for the game, I'd say I'm here more so for the journey of the developers through uncharted territory."

Its not in 2 years time anymore, it's two years ago if they wanted to.

"Pretty good" is relative I guess. I mean, even LittleAnt gave it only a 6/10 some time ago. What makes that guy think more independent reviews would have given better ratings at that time? Prolly lucky for SC to get a 4 or 5 /10 tops.

The looting-from-ships apparently arriving in 3.19 (unless it gets delayed, which for CIG is a high probability) is a great step towards making a game i'll find fun. Going out, blasting NPC ships, and looting them for stuff to sell and/or upgrade my current ship with; more steps are needed before it's at that stage though.

Silver Sanctum thinks it's OK to release an MMO that does not save your progress.

If you manage to get that of course! I think it's likely new players will spawn, get instantly medpenned and tractorbeamed and then stuffied into the nearest toilet, where a crowd of onlookers will place Pico plushie bets on when it'll erupt and spew PES everywhere for teh lulz.

It's died down a bit now, but a couple of years ago there were a few forumites (in the actual ED forums not here) who were complaining because loading 700 tons into a ship should take time and there should be a animation that showed the cargo loading. It didn't go down well when I suggested working out how long it should take to load a ton, say 2 minutes, then multiply that by 700 and just wait there until the required 23 hours has passed for loading before taking off and they could use thier imagination to imagine the forklifts running back and forth while they waited.

There's immersion and there's silly. Sure a special mission to grab a box and deliver it safely, get to carry the box, load a ship with 700 of the same boxes? Oops swear filter kicked in, apparantly anal is fine......, so anal off!

Guessing you don't do PowerPlay. Plenty of immersion loading up 700 tons of pamphlets or whatever they are called.

Oh defo. Like i said it's only a first step, they need to add plenty more things for that fun gameloop i described to be functional and enjoyable.

He's right about the impossibly massive part.

The more you add, the more chance of something breaking. That's why after multiple iterations programs are often either refactored or a new version is built from the ground up. You keep piling more code on top of code, even with the best coders and practices, things are going to get messy, and CIG don't have either.

You're not giving CIG enough credit. It isn't a chance of things breaking, more a cast iron certainty!

You know it just came to me CIG is almost the opposite of Ubisoft. CIG is struggling with one game, adding things to a single idea to get an everything game.
Ubisoft on the other hand keeps making new games, as far as I know starting over, but with the same old game mechanics.
Both managed to converge in on disappointing the coomunity at large.

Ok, different topic, and this is weird... discussion about medical beds and how Tier 1 beds can (or the plan is) "print" a new body at any distance but Tier 2 bodies only within 20km.

Why would it matter how far away a corpse is? Either you need the physical DNA or whatever sample, or you don't, either way, you're either right next to the remains or the remains don't matter. Its all rather strange. Then they start going on about how capital ships won't have enough beds to ressurrect the whole crew in one go, and if you think about it, if the whole crew is dead (They're all dead Dave!) i very much doubt the ship is going to be in existence for much longer... and anyway, if everyone is dead, who's going to revive the crew anyway? Holly???

Aaah crap… so we are not clones but rather printed copies?

Someone at CIG is watching too much Netflix…

I’ll answer your question… if all the crew dies then:

"Womb, a 3D biological printer creates a exploration team one individual at a time to man spacecraft.”

SPOILER ALERT: DO NOT CLICK THE LINK OR CONTINUE READING IF YOU ARE SENSIBLE TO SPOILERS

ref: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exception_(TV_series)

If I recall correctly, in that anime series they need fresh DNA sample to generate enough material to print the body in a timely manner and, IIRC please don’t quote me on this since its been a long time since I watched that one season show, they can print another body in the event that no fresh DNA is available (like total loss of current body) but it would require growing new cells and what not… which takes considerably longer time than “recycling” part of the current body.

Basically Womb can autonomously print the crew one by one in the event all of them are dead (in fact that’s how the show start and the main plot revolves around this capability)

Edit: The range limitation seem to be arbitrary, unless they want to be creative with consciousness transfer… like saying the less capable bed doesn’t have enough storage to hold a copy of your character’s consciousness so, in the event of dead, it needs to be transferred via short range local-link? but that’s a can of worms specially if you consider caves and scenarios where comms are blocked

After many months on PTU testing, and after the disastrous release of the patch to Live with people for days without even being able to access the game, in 14 days this is all the progress with the Known Issues for patch x.x.1 (let's not forget, again for PTU); they have "fix" 2 of them and added 3 new ones.

And what's new in this patch?

Feature Updates
  • Initial Ship Delivery (A quick trick to try to mitigate problems with server requests)
  • Arena Commander Customization Temporarily Disabled (Disable a function of the Arena Commander)

And for these changes, these tremendous changes, they have to create again a new PTU and not introduce them in Live version... I guess they don't want to touch Live as it is now in order not to " ruin " it...

And there are still people who every day try to convince me that the 3.18 (and now the 3.18.1) runs great, is stable, runs at 120 fps on 4k and everything is perfect.

Of course it is.

PES Watch:

Player Unstowed possible? solution

I was able to log into another computer with a clean installation of 3.18, and it got me in. Now however, I have changed my primary residence to Area 18, and my belongings are still going to Orison. I even rented an Aurora to try to get off planet, but it was sent to Orison as well.

Star Citizen - Just Buy Another Computer (it still won't work, though)
