Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

For each planet that CIG could make with the planet tech V4, it could be that CIG would be obliged to remake them if the next iterations change too much the proc gen algorithm.
For each [insert feature name] that CIG could make with the [insert tech name], it's guaranteed that CIG will be obliged to remake them when Chris changes the, and I use the term loosely, 'design'.

It's just incredible that perpetual development with no end in sight, or intention to end, can be so profitable.

They have a proc gen for city planets (whole planet covered by one city) they could use for other planets. But they need server meshing before as creating planets without being able to go to them is not really useful.

Forget teh other panet. My question was why didn't they just put in half the city planet on the current planet. Obviously it also need testing and putting it in now allow that part to be tested rather than wait an eternity for Server Meshing so another planet full of cities. A lot of things and mechanics could be added to the current planet like plots of land as suggested once upon a time and tested independent of Sever Meshing. There is no need for Server Meshing if they add all the biomes to this one planet and test it all together.

How many years had CIG been working on Server Meshing?

You can doubt all managing points given by CIG. But the devs of SC for the graphic engine are really good (for what I know), give a lot of explanations and had proven they deliver (upgrading the render engine is not something that a lot of companies are able to do). So I don't see why a dev is lying when saying that randomizing tiles on ground has a cost. It's just a technical point.
Graphic engine? Isn't that more about Crytek stuff, and tinkering with that, rather than making something new?

I don't understand what you said. It's like you suggest that the Stanton system has just one planet with only one biome... I've correctly understood ?

Or just put new planets in the same system. I seem to recall they've already been pretty relaxed about what goes in which system (Delamar), and as we're constantly reminded it's alpha so who cares whether it's canon? Server meshing is just the current excuse. Next it will be "yes, they added server meshing, but it's the wrong type of server meshing" followed by "we've come up with a new tech that will replace server meshing."

It's pretty obvious they're not using any real "proc gen" tech in the conventional sense (not some stupid, CIG-specific redefinition) and that all this stuff is still put together primarily by hand.

I'm saying on the planet SC has now, why don't they put everything they plan to put in the game in there and test it in one go. Multiple cities, oceans, sandworms, everything so people can test it in one go instead of waiting for Server Meshing to test other things on other planets.

How many years had CIG been working on Server Meshing?
More years now than it took people to realize devs were tired of re-writing dynamic server load-balancing as they moved between projects, form a company called BigWorld to address that need, implement the load-balancing as middleware for sale, make money bringing various games to life, and then sell the company to Wargaming.

With Joel and Ellie there looking nothing like Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, Naughty Dog clearly need to up their facial capture game, they should contract in CIG ;)
I was more shocked with Pedro and Bella neither looking or sounding anything like Joel and Ellie...

Now if Gerard Butler could ever have carried off a Texas drawl instead of his indelible Sean Connery style Edinburgh accent, he'd have been my man for the part of Joel. Ellie? I would have went with one of the other GoT names that were interviewed for the role but was decided against due to age...Maisie Williams.

The casting in the main roles were part of the reason I gave the series a 6.5/10...as much as I tried...couldn't fit them as Joel or Ellie in my head either visually or aurally ;)

hmmm wonder if i could beat someone to death with a turtle using the tractor beam......
You used to be able to throw them at folks outside of armistice zones....we had tons of turtle grenade battles at Grim Hex during PTU when they were testing out melee combat :)

They actually modelled the VA for Joel on the actor that played him, so I'd have thought he'd be the obvious guy for the part. :p Instead he was one of the religious henchmen.

They also modelled Tess of her VA, sadly she passed away earlier this year otherwise I think she'd have had the role.

The VA for Marlene actually reprised her role.

Ashley Johnson is the only VA that doesn't look like her character Ellie, generally being much older and blonde.

I tend not to like to watch adaptations of games I've played for some of the same reasons. The other being both are story telling mediums, saying a game needs a video or movie is a bit like saying the game failed to do the job of telling the story. At least LoU subverts that a bit by changing the story so it's not a slavish adaptation.

Erm, something, something Star Citizen.

Troy Baker who did the MOCAP and voice acting for Joel in the original game looked like a weird skinny punk kid in 2013, more boy band material than playing a voice age of 50 something like Joel's character. He's been dubbed as the man with a thousand voices...he's done many VA performances for games over the years and finally got his screen debut as James in TLoU TV show. Ashley Johnson who voice acted and MOCAP'd Ellie has also done many, many games and CG TV shows as well as live performances in film and TV. She also won an Emmie for reprising her role as Ellie for the Left Behind DLC and TLoU2...as did Laura Bailey who plays Abbey in the second game.

Geoffrey Pierce, who MOCAP'd and voice acted Tommy in both games also had a part in the TV show as Perry, the deranged Kathleen's bearded henchman. Nice to see most of the game's voice cast being paid tribute in this way though. Having Ashley Johnson play Ellie's mum in the TV series was a nice touch...it also meant a huge amount to Ashley who's figuratively given birth to Ellie twice. Just as an aside, Ashley Johnson also picked Maisie Williams as her personal choice to play as Ellie in the TV series :)
