Done with Odyssey. Engineering

Fun fact: If you own a carrier, you need one opinion poll and one smear campaign plan. You can sell that one unit over and over to your own bartender. If do not have a carrier, you might do that with a trustworthy buddy who buys them and then sells them back to you.

However, I found enough of them by just playing the game that I gave them away to other CMDRs. Not many, but enough. Like, a handful.
Fun fact, I neither own, nor desire to own, a fleet carrier. I don't play enough to make enough money to pay for one either. My play style can be loosely translated to, just bumping around the galaxy, finding something that I enjoy doing, it's all very casual. I engineer things to make it more fun to play.

I don't play with other people in Elite as most that I have enjoyed playing with have moved on and I can't stand the level of involvement that PvP requires, abhor the whole "lore" and the BGS has little interest. Between my job and Battlefield 1 and 5, where I do actually have friends that play a game, I have limited time to play.

As far as ships go, I would likely sell of most of what I own if I could re-coup some of the engineering I put into them. Now that I have a guardian FSD booster, I largely just fly the Krait Phantom as I enjoy this ship most of all.

But then again, I have my ship based bins pretty full and no real desire to do more engineering.
 
You mean the BGS that was supposed to be... I don't know... in the background? The one that wasn't supposed to be played and players found a way to and did it anyway ;)? Maybe our definitions don't align here. I would call that out-of-game.
Nah, for some BGS is a daily reason to play the game.. Maybe it was unintentional, though I think Frontier made BGS legitimate game play when they added PMFs, but otherwise let's call it emergent game play. :)

Still if all one does it pick on the poor anarchists in a tourist or maybe mining site good gear probably isn't needed, but if one likes a challenge like massacring a large military settlement, then high end gear is probably a welcome addition.

I have seen a handful of smear campaign plans throughout my Odyssey ventures, but not lately now that I am looking to get certain engineers for upgrades. So guess what I didn’t think to bother picking up.

Opinion polls, I had ten of those before I even had ten digital designs. Whatever that says about my luck with RNGesus.
Like last night, I got 5 manufacture instructions from downloads at two settlements... I've never seen that many before.

Same here, only it was like 5 suit schematics and three of them in a single small locker inside a power center. I was quite surprised but didn’t argue… still need like 13 more though. Mostly for the G3 upgrade to the Artemis and G5 for the Mav.

(If you’re wondering why I didn’t just put G2 on the Artemis for eventual application of night vision, I wanted reduced tool consumption for those times I’m not bothered to drive an SRV around a mountain looking for space bushes or the infamous mountain fungus. And landing a Phantom in said environment is not fun.)

Well, I haven't been looking for them, let alone finding them.

Sorry to be pugnacious about this, but it is the one thing that gets under my skin about this game. Things like smear campaigns and opinion polls, that are required only for engineering and then never to be used again, are so hard to acquire. Engineering requirements should not be locked behind a grind wall and a RNG wall, this lesson was supposedly learned with ship-based engineering. They should be earned with some kind of mission based goals, like Hero Ferrari, or something like grinding out status with a NPC faction to gain the proper permits. This are things to be achieved, not some kind of random luck item that will never be used in game ever again.

shrug I’m committed to the choice now anyway unless I upgrade the suit level further, and the bio sampler plugging away is what drains it the fastest/most anyway. Haven’t had any power issues with it since, as I don’t really need the shields.

Unless you found angry stuff out in the void that shoots you?

Suit schematics have been dropping pretty prevalently in the thargoid alert restore missions as well as manufacturing instructions. I've got 2 suits and 2 weapons to G5... But not much to add as I only have 2 engineers. I need to Hero but just can't stomach sitting there in a on foot CZ. I've done a couple, but I have no idea whether I need 1 or 10 to complete. I don't know if the ones I had done earlier were of the right type (all low threat) or if that matters.

My one fully engineered suit is the maverick with low power tools and suit, backpack and night vision, makes restore missions' fun.

If there’s a big port or surface station available, you can check the intensity of a surface conflict through the Frontline Solutions rep. (Yes, it should also be viewable in the system map without having to go to one but Frontier.)

I haven’t personally kept track myself or have a clue how many low intensity conflicts I’ve done. Even with a basically unengineered and unupgraded suit/weapons(G2 Dominator with preapplied increased battery cap, G3 plasmas with no mods), I found them to be rather easy and boring. Most of the time I’ve been running them has been as an occasional distraction or for BGS purposes.

Why they don’t all just count is beyond me. And what’s happened to that bug where Hero doesn’t unlock properly? Has that been addressed?

Yeah, I need to bite the bullet on this... Thing is, I quite enjoy the restore missions for now, like being on a treasure quest. I used to play Sea of Thieves, I really loved just bumping about and finding things about as much as doing missions.

Nah, I just want long autonomous operation. Mine ended up with inc bat, inc sprint, inc jump and night vision. Maybe it's a moot point, but I think the increased bat is the better mod for the Artemis. But I doubt it makes any significant practical difference.
 
Currently there is zero need for engineering on an Arti. The 5 secs it usually takes for me to step out of the ship and back to scan something needs no more than a basic suit. If only explo was better thought out so I had to spend time in ruins or somewhere in accessible terrain where my vehicle wasn't just 5m away. Nevermind caves, we can't even have those....

Uh? Sell the same unit over and over how does that work?

Need no, but it is a convenience if you don’t go in and out of your ship/SRV for every biological you go and scan.

I do agree that there should be more gameplay loops for Odyssey other than the FPS that was shoehorned in by some shareholder(probably) with no regards to integration with the rest of the game. And it’s not the kind that makes me look at it and go “Yeah, I’d play that over Halo”.
 
Ground mission credit payouts need to be increased x100, so that they're equal to other activities. Otherwise there's no point in doing them anymore after getting everything upgraded.
