I got good feedback with the last post I made (thanks). I think the next logical step for Planet Zoo will be aquarium and aviary dlc's eventually.

Rules: choose any FIVE birds (or bats) for each Continent:

North America
  • Bald Eagle
  • California Condor
  • Snow Owl
  • Great Blue Heron
  • Greater Roadrunner

Birds are so hard to "wish" for in the same sense as other animals because we still have no real idea how they're going to be implemented, if ever, aside from mostly ground-dwelling birds. Presumably it will be in the Walkthrough Exhibit, but even it's like...small birds? Flocking birds? What kinds of birds? There are so many unknowns and variables.

I can't think of five from each continent, really. There are some concepts that tickle my fancy;
  • X5 Lorikeet/Lory species, similar to how we got the butterflies. It's my absolute dream right now to include lorikeets in my Australia sections.
  • Keas, which are practically universally walkthrough aviary birds in New Zealand.
  • X5 Hummingbird species, same as the lorikeets.
  • Inca tern.
As far as non-flying/grounded habitat birds go:
  • A pelican. Preferably the great white, but I'll take anything.
  • Kiwi, for obvious reasons.
  • Little blue penguin, gentoo penguin, and rockhopper penguin. I'm of the opinion we can't actually have enough penguins.
  • Himalayan monal and other pheasants.
  • Mute swan. Yes, the garden variety white swan is high on my personal list of birds. I'd love to fill a lake with swans just to complete the aesthetic.

About the penguins. I definitely agree we need at least 1 more. Having 3, a south american, an oceanian and a 2nd Antarctic, would complete penguin for me personally. And I think most people agree. I only see us getting 2 more Max in this game though and mabey that 3rd in a sequel. Anyway penguins are the 2nd most fleshed out bird group after ratites and I find that wierd.

Sorry for the penguin rant. Also Black swan supremacy! We need a bird from Oceania.

They could release a solely penguin pack with a bunch of species and I'd still buy it. Also, I picked the mute swan because I always build in Britain (since New Zealand isn't properly available on the map, stupidly being in the tropical biome, otherwise I'd probably want the black swan too).

Europe: Nothing

NA: Roadrunner, Brown Pelican

ZA: Rose Spoonbill, Rhea, Red Ibis, Burrowing Owl

Africa: Helmed Guineafowl, Secretary Bird, Shoebill, Ground Hornbill, Saddle-Billed Stork, Marabou, Grey Crowned Crane

Asia: golden Pheasant

Australia: Victoria Crowned Pidgeon, Kiwi, Lyrebird, Black Swan

Probably forget some birds, add them later

Puffin and Rockhoppers could be fun, but I’m already happy in the penguin department

I never realised new Zealand is tropical, that is stupid. Mabey it's because the tropical map has big mountains like new Zealand. Also tropical has my favorite terrain paint set so it's not the worst thing.

I'm not sure if lyrebirds are kept in any zoos. though I would absolutely love them in game if they mimicked the sounds of nearby habitats like they would with animals irl lol.

I don’t care for realism, as long as they keep whales, dinos and cryptids like bigfoot out of the game

Only in Australia, but they are kept in several zoos here. There's a male in a big walkthrough aviary at my local city zoo and he often mimics the other birds he hears around the zoo, as well as human-made sounds like camera shutters!

I only chose animals that can be habitat because we do not have any flying aviary birds yet so no idea if these would be possible.

Healesville sanctuary (Victoria) has them… not sure where else they might be but I’d have thought they’d be in other zoos as well.

I agree with this so much. We also don't have an existing roster of aviary birds to work with and decide what we want.
