No Single Player offline Mode then?

More than 4300 posts in this thread. Impressive. Hopefully in the future we will have an offline version (even with a static universe). To have a safety net if ED comes to disappear and also to feel "owner" of a game that we have funded

Question.....

Do you really think FD have gone back on their word....and have been lying all along ?
Or maybe it really is more complex than they thought ( which in my opinion is more likely )

Would you be happy with an Oolite type offline standalone game with ED graphics ...never updated or anything ...just a game to play offline ?

People have pointed to links, have quoted, have explained it at length. You're either trolling or are purposefully ignoring these things. Here's a picture to "show" you one example of it being made clear, in no uncertain words, that being able to play without connecting to the servers would be possible. There is also a FAQ about DRM, which clearly states that no always-online connection, nor every-play will be required.

LOL, its not on the KS Side.
Everyone tries to tell me, that it is on the KS SIde.

This in an unofficial quotation of an developer in a chat....
ON this base all bought ED and now they are frustrated...
You are kidding me!

It's ordering a steak and being served one raw. Half the product. Half the promise.

I still play the original Elite on my laptop on the way to work. Will I be able to play 'Elite: Dangerous' in a single player mode without any connection to the net? Thanks.

Yes, though you will lose the richness of multiplayer.

@ BOA

If this wasn't ever intended/promised however you want to put it why were moderators - as recently as Thursday 13th November 2014, still telling newcomers it was available and a possible play mode?

I am still very much on the fence regarding this whole debacle as I have had high hopes and expectations for ED, but I must admit that after the revelations of the past days, my once solid confidence in FD has suffered a massive blow.
Here's why...
1 the reason for this gigantaur of a thread: Eliminating offline option
2 the exceptionally poor communications effort by FD officials ( I do not refer to the forum moderators here )
The following have just come to my attention after reading through the entirety of this thread (yes, all 285 pages)
3 ingame advertising, this is to me completely intolerable in the form mentioned several times in this thread.
4 no option for a 'private' game world/galaxy, as online solo is apparently affected by all players ("blaze your own trail..." on the heels of 100000 others ??)

now, add that to the current state of this project. (I could reiterate a list as long as a runway, but I'll spare you )

All in all, FD now has 2 gigantic tasks ahead of them, and very little time to do so:
1 find a solution to the offine issue, and clearly communicate said solution to the people paying their salaries.
2 deliver what they have promised on 16-12 at the latest, that being at the very least a 100% functional game experience.

Failure to accomplish either will have grim consequences for both game and developer.*
*note of clarification: this is meant as a warning, NOT a threat, I simply foresee the community/customer/press reactions.

I would be incredibly happy. Well they have gone back on their word, regardless of any difficulties they faced with it.

I've no worries about the online game. I know that will succeed :)

They haven't managed to convince me that it's not an option, no. Probably not all along, but it's extremely improbable that they found out last week, and the way they "revealed" it is either highly suspect or highly incompetent.

Yes.

Really ... So a handful of people (and it is a handful) , out of what , tens of thousands of backers .. .Thats pretty much 1%

I dont see those same people complaining to Spotify or Steam or Netflix because they have a rubbish internet connection. In the end ED was always pitched as a game that was going to be online, if people didnt 'get that' then thats not FD's fault.

So what exactly have some of these being doing for the last 12 months during alpha and beta then? Twiddling their thumbs .. no .. They have been playing a game online (in some cases with difficulty).

If people genuinely bought the game for offline mode only then fine they deserve a refund (for the retail cost of the game), and that is a small percentage of people, I am sorry but it just is. The rest are just a part of the 'mob' culture who's only pleasure in life is to cause trouble. The game is perfectly playable in Solo mode in on a dodgy connection.

Its funny because all those on a dodgy connection seem to be posting here without any massive issues ...

I chose the beta version & have played the beta for about 20 minutes, my mate who has no internet connection and cannot get any form of internet at home (unless he chooses to pay a minimum of £25 per month for satellite internet 2gb download cap) no mobile signal and a bad landline which is useless for dial-up let alone broadband pre-ordered the mercenary edition purely because it offered offline play. This was mentioned in numerous articles in the press.
-
Since having the Beta, every Friday when I collect him to bring him to mine I have offered him the chance to play ED. He refuses because he can't then go home & continue to play. As we have both played the original Elite in our youth together (seeing who could get to Elite first) I didn't want to have an advantage by playing the guts out of it.
-
This revelation of the game now not having an offline feature has annoyed hum and to be honest my interest has also suffered because we cannot play this latest edition to the franchise like we have done with all previous incarnations.
-
Whilst some of you & like me have very stable internet (mine currently 50mbps) others are not so fortunate. Do we really know how many people are affected by this, some probably won't even find out until they return to work tomorrow and check the forum or their email.
-
For the younger generation you have grown up with the internet and online gaming (computer, phone, console & tablet) perhaps it was FD's intention to grab this share of the market, it is just a shame that they chose to remove a perfectly valid revenue stream from the game.
-
I now have to make a choice, ask for a refund on the basis that I am not going to enjoy the game experience knowing my school mate can't join me in the fun like the days of old or put up with it.
