Newcomer / Intro Security Clearance Levels?

When I go to a colony (or wahtever) as a security level 0, I can't instantly access most required buildings. I have to either (illegally) scan a higher level profile or hack the maintenance panels, both of which usually end in me being shot up pretty quickly!
Is there a way of increasing player security clearance level? Does that come later in the game?

The only way I have had a higher security level was when it was provided as part of the mission, I haven’t heard of us gaining clearance any other way.
As I don’t wander around such places except as part of a mission and only do missions once every other blue moon at best I may well be missing other methods.

Unless you're doing a job for them (and the only one I know of that gives a Sec level is Restore/Reactivates) you are a stranger walking around a para-military compound. Of course you are never getting access.

There are some tricks you can do. If the area isn't restricted, you can enter. Some places have NPCs walking around so you can just follow them into places that require a Sec level. Sometimes you can con a guard into scanning you near a door long enough for you to slip through (let the scan finish though). Remember, using this trick to enter a restricted area will still get you in trouble.

Thanks guys. Really helpful.
Does anyone know how to contact the admins here? I don't get any email notifications of replies to threads.

In the forum guidelines thread there is info about contacting them:

The important thing to remember is to take your time. Every time I rush, I end up failing the mission (and running for my life). Take the time to "mark" all the NPC's you can, preferably from the rooftops. The scanner upgrade for your suit makes this much faster. Once you've marked all the guards, it's easier to avoid them. Just don't try jumping off a roof over a guard. Some of them don't understand physics, and will decide to scan you while you're in the air. By the time you land, they open fire because you didn't stand still.

Thanks guys.
I'm clearly doing something very wrong here. Whenever I clone a profile and enter a building, a staff member says 'you're not supposed to be in here' and draws a weapon on me.

They know who's allowed into Restricted Zones. Access is not permission. And if you're scanned with a cloned profile you will be executed.

This is an underdeveloped area of the game, there is no capacity for you to be "visiting" with access. No chance of interacting with the NPCs to bluff it out. They just know.

Thanks guys.

In restricted areas you have to avoid being seen - so move around quietly in a crouched position* and use surroundings to hide behind.

* Normal movement is sort of jogging so makes more noise that walking (keyboard "K") or shuffling around in crouched position.

The quieter footsteps engineering for your suit apparently makes walking just as "silent" as crouched movement. There are better upgrades, so I don't use it. Crouched movement is good enough for every scenario I've been in so far.

Also, you can scan through windows. Some of the more tricksy level 2/3 es NPC's are inside. However, if you are spotted cloning them, as with doing it outside, the alarms will be raised.

One more thing I just thought of. Some illegal missions have you carrying an illegal item for delivery or sabotage. That item is automatically added to your suit inventory when you disembark at the location where it's supposed to be used. Always check the illegal item icon before moving away from your ship, just in case. Illegal items in your suit inventory will result in aggressive action when scanned.

When I take those missions, I just drop the item back on my ship from outside. I'll then prep the site (mark NPC's, kill alarm, etc), then go back and get the item.
