VR settings stacking

Edit: Just a heads up. There are 4 separate programs that stack settings when you load up Elite: Dangerous in VR if you use Steam and for example an HP Reverb:
  • In-game settings
  • Steam VR settings
  • Windows Mixed Reality settings
  • Nvidia Control panel
So if you're struggling to get the performance you're expecting it could well be that one or all is/are set too low or too high.

Good luck commanders.

Any information on which render scale would be the correct one to change if you want to use a lower resolution with FSR upscaling? For example, does it make a difference if you have the WMR Tool scale set at 70% and SteamVR at 100% compared to the other way around?

I don't know anything conclusive, but I can tell you, that depending on hardware and hmd, you should strive to eliminate super sampling in any shape or form. Most modern hmds have high native resolution screens, so super sampling mainly adds artifacts and work load. Just my personal observation.

In WMR the only setting is the frame rate. Is that correct?

Well, if you click see more > settings in the bottom left corner of the Windows Mixed Reality window , you'll be presented with the Windows Mixed Reality settings options. But I would leave them alone for now. At default settings. Have a look, but don't touch. :)

But yes, If I remember correctly, the default should be 90fps.

Edit: Found the culprit. The one place I didn't think to look, obviously. Having tinkered with in-game settings, SteamVR settings and WMR settings to no effect I randomly checked Nvidia control panel the other day... Lo and behold, the power/performance settings had switched from max performance to default/normal settings. Probably through a driver update?

Anyway, I switched NCP back to best performance and hey presto, Legacy rocks solid 90 fps again, apart from the obvious hot spots.

So when optimising VRLegacy settings remember to balance all 4 (what a mess):
  • In-game
  • SteamVR
  • Windows Mixed Reality
  • Nvidia Control Panel
