No Single Player offline Mode then?

This is great news imo. This game is going to die if they DO NOT DO PROPER MULTIPLAYER. Forget single player and offline mode (apart from a few vocal minority) EVERYONE wants multiplayer. Frontier needs to add proper multiplayer support, as it stands, the game is single player with hardly any content with a release date in 1 month.

I hope Frontier are not giving up on this game and moving onto the next property, but they need to do a 180 a go NUTS on multiplayer features or they will have zero market share in 12 months.

Proper multiplayer would be nice too, I admit. I don't see much chance of that soon though.

Hyperbole troll.

I suspect your EVERYONE is a few people. Personally, offline play was not an issue for my backing but if you look at my previous post hopefully you can understand why people are upset about this since it was stated that it would be available from the beginning. When the servers die so goes the game.

That's right. But I'm just trying to get a feel for the reasons why some are upset about the absence of offline. For many it might simply be an Internet connection thing such as speed or limited download allowances.
Because I might want to play in an offline machine, perhalps? Probably because my internet sucks? Playing long after the servers are pullled offline? There are several explanations.

I'm sorry but that is quite untrue and your total lack of sympathy for the people that can't play now or will have great trouble playing now is shameful.

This is not about sympathy. I want this game to succeed and remain relevant for a long time. So far they are in the middle and need to push into a direction. Multiplayer is where the majority of the market is. Dropping offline mode, is a good first step, but they need to also drop solo online mode (at least the ability to switch at will from open) also, and just go serious about multiplayer and guild support.

Multiplayer and guild features is what will keep this game relevant for a long time. The shine will fade, the grind will suck, they neeeed multiplayer to keep it relevant and fun.

well, you are basically agreeing that if the online part of this game suck...what we will have left to play? (and right now it's not really something THAT amazing, at least not 75 $ amazing...we'll see at release date)

the problem is that they dropped the ball on offline too late...what if hypotetically the game will suck on release? what if online won't work on release? what if they'll drop the game in 6 months?
what if this huge potential of a game will be wasted caused by their PR policy?

Sorry I thought you asked for a refund? Have I missed something?

But yes - double edged sword here.

Drop offline to concentrate on online - correct decision right now from their point of view.

But can they actually make it work?

Isn't repeating that line kinda self-fulfilling prophecy?

There are lot of online games living quite well, even if their development didn't turn out so rosy as first intentions by their devs.

FD can always roll out server software and hand it over to some fan organization in case they are leaving this game be. It's not like game has huge trade secrets in it.

I can see why they are upset, but money is the goal here. Why do you think they are releasing an unfinished game in 30 days for xmas? Money for FDEV shareholders! is why. You need to play by their rules, the money rule. Multiplayer = money.

Well that's the hope. For most...or some. Cant be absolute as I will be attacked for being slight absolute.

I do not want multiplayer, if I did I would still be playing EVE. I wanted single player offline with no connection to the multiplayer universe.

you could look at it this way...
You can play a solo game with a realistic and evolving economy rather than a static economy, an organic galaxy...you'd get the benefits and all the other players are the worker bees making the game richer for you :)

Glass half full attitude!

yep i asked, never said that i got it tho ;) and even then i ally want this game to backtrack on their offline policy...
damn..even multi-billionaire microsoft redacted after a week...

Very true that a lot or some online games that are thriving. But there are also "a lot" or "some" that can't be played at all despite a loyal fanbase because the servers have gone dark.

I suspect by the time that the realization of failure comes, there won't be a rolling of any new code to the players that have supported the game.

Sorry, I paid for OFFLINE because ONLINE gaming sucks, being beat up by deathmatching teenagers ain't my cup of tea!
Besides, I only play on the Oculus Rift and so far ONLINE introduces sickening stuttering.
I was simply hoping for a stable OFFLINE game with shooting, trading and exploring while rifting, is that to much too ask?

I paid nearly a hundred Aus dollars for this game.
I upgraded my PC for this game.
I bought an X52 for this game.

Not happy Jan!

I do not want to be playing the market against the hacks, bots and RMTers that flood all online games. That does not enrich my game at all.

I'm pretty sure FDev is not going to revert their P2P network model and switch to EVE Online model so yeah... There is that too.
