Can I dump cargo?

I accepted a mission that gave me two liquor quantity in my cargo and that mission has since expired. Now it doesn't seem that I can sell it anywhere, maybe because it's stolen?. Do I need to dump it or should I be able to sell it somewhere? How do you dump cargo if you can't sell it?

Go to the right hand pane and go to the cargo tab and select the cargo you want to dump and dump it.

You can risk it and keep it of course but you will be scanned and possibley get a bounty . Other than that you can go to contacts in the station you are at and see if it has a black market . If it does just sell the stuff there. If it dosnt you can try and sneak out and run to an anarchy station like freeport that has a black market. Or you can do the cargo dump thing asap when you leave the station hopeing the feds dont catch you .

Just wait until you get 100+ and need to dump it. Unless there's a "eject all" option I don't know about, ejecting cargo one by one is another exercise in tedium.

You can bind a key setting to dump cargo under Options->Controls but I recommend that if you do, use a key combo (like Left Alt->Left Shift->D) to make it hard to accidentally dump.

I thought all they had was deathmatch and racing and...oh! ;)

I have dumped in supercruise as well. I never considered it a bug but rather a way of creating player driven content. An unknown signal could simply be some cargo thrown overboard, admittedly perhaps travelling at several times the speed of light. :)

There is a jettison all button you can bind, and you can select the cargo in the cargo panel and change the jettison amount per type of cargo.

A cannister of JontyBass in the face at 100c is my way of saying "Oops!" ;)

Thanks all. Not sure how I missed the jettison option under cargo, but I took Druid's suggestion and sold it at Freeport's Black Market.

OT: Can anyone tell me if there's a secret to figuring out where the dock entrance is on places like Freeport or Chango? I see these giant floating objects and trying to figure out where to enter into the docking area can be a pain sometimes. Is there an easy way to find out?

Yes the side with the entrance is always rotating anticlockwise.

First, check the "contacs" tab on any station, more than half of them has "black market" option, thats where you sell this cargo. Also, do not worry about the authorities, if you master your docking manouver enough, you can get from the jump exit to the mailbox quiet fast- if you see that you are being scanned, just switch to the silent run mode (backspace key is default) which stops the scanning. Tricky part is that you pile the heat up, but if you turn the silent mode off after you get through the mailbox, you can switch the silent mode on and your safe... Also, dont forget that silent running drops your shields, so you cant bounce the entrance, or the landing pad. Anyhow, this method has never failed me, even in the high security systems.

I discovered it, when i was interdicted by a pirate in ASP, while having a full superconductor load, we had a cool fight, but those pesky authorities came to help me, i accidentally hit one of them with my wild beam laser, i got a bounty on my head and 3 vipers shoting me... I run away with 45% of hull left, no money for the insurance (superconductors are not cheap) and i realized that i have a bounty on me when docking the station... It started to scan me and in desperation i turned the silent mode on: i couls land without any problems... Actually there was no black market, so i sold 1 superconductor to repair my ship and went to another station in the same system. Docked again, also turning the silent mode at the scan attempt, worked again... Ive done this several times now...

if you have stolen goods always check the bulletin boards at the pirate basses.
if your lucky you can get huge amounts for it.

just have a look at the board in keries , you'll see what I mean.
but don't mess up to much of those missions , they will make you a hostile if you do!!

I also had a problem with finding an entrance and saying "anticlockwise" didnt make me really figure it out very quickly. I ue a simple mind trick now:

Imagine, that the station is a bottle cap (like a pepsi, or mineral water- screw on top is the english term, i guess?), and a gigantic hand is closing the bottle with the station (cap)- the entrance is at the bottom of the cap, the side where the bottle would be... Works for every station in the elite universe.

The old trick is that the entrance is always on the side rotating anticlockwise, but if that takes too much thinking, target the station (iirc requesting docking permission automatically does this) and look at the hologram/wireframe on your left. You should notice some helpful arrows on the sides pointing the way.

In your travels always make a note of star ports with a black market. Then you can sell stolen goods if you can manually fly in at high speed to dock without being scanned. Practice this when you are totally legal so when the need comes up you will have the abilities to pull it off. Basically stay 10k out from the station and align up perfectly with the entrance. Go max velocity and at less than 7k go for request docking. Once approved hit the boost and fly in as fast as you can. Once you are in the gate slow to 100 then even more once you are inside. Once you past the gate you won't be scanned. Land, sell stolen cargo on the black market and pay any fines. You're good to go. Just one basic solution out of many. Hope this helps.

So say you decide to dump some cargo somewhere, ho0w long will those canisters last out there?, assuming nobody else found them.

also, I wonder if you dump cargo would it create a USS ?

I think they only last for maybe 10-15 mins max, after that infamous "300 cargo cannisters outside the station" incident and everyone was at .000000001 FPS.

Thats interesting, as I remember David Braben talking about 'hiding a stash' in an asteroid belt in one of the dev diaries.

I sympathise because I used to struggle. The Coriolas stations when targeted and viewed on your HUD now display chevron-like symbols on the sides which point towards the one with the docking port. I've found this very helpful.
