Sorely disappointed

I've made an account to post this, and hope it gets seen by some and have some impact but expect nothing given the sad state of things.

Last year after the release of Odyssey I was so excited to play again, but the release was buggy, my PC was chugging and it was basically unplayable. I told myself, Nina, wait it out, they probably need to iron some stuff out. So I waited a few months, three or four, still messed up, still chugging and I don't get why... I uninstalled the game that day, I was tired of having bugs, losing progress, not finding friends because of weird instancing and even disappearing planets.

So skip to today, I reinstalled because I thought 'I want to play a space sim!' first off the launcher didn't work because you have to untick a setting after downloading it with steam, thank god for Google.
After that I get put into the game and have to redo the tutorials (skipped it, luckily this was a thing) and did some space missions, these were still the same and a little stale but it works so that was exciting. Also my PC (which is unchanged) wasn't chugging! Great!

I could find my friends and play with them, another win!!

So I started to (finally!) play some Odyssey content, so excited to try it. I immediately get shot at for unclear reasons, get killed and deposited in a cell on the other side of the cluster... Great, so I get in my ship and fly all the way back. I guess I should've read up on this some more so I don't blame Frontier here.

I return to a settlement and get a new mission 'Sabotage the hydroponics plant'. Amazing sounding mission, super excited. Sneak my way in, steal clearance zap a scientist and open a container after disabling the alarm. Exciting stuff! And I wait for the container to open.... Some more .... Even more... Almost 2 minutes if not more and feels like an eternity. Sure, safety precaution from the facility I guess. Cool, insert mutagen and close, doesn't work, try again, still nope... Ok so I want to just uninstall this mess at this point. But I think of reloading the instance, so I try this, now the monitors are all off, I check the power plant and that is ok. So it's not the power... I reload the instance AGAIN... And it didn't ing work...

So as a developer I understand crunch isn't nice and you can't get things right all the time, but it's been almost two years. Please fix this game, you have such potential.
I feel like such a fool for buying the lifetime pass for this game, I'm almost as stupid as the average Star Citizen supporter.

Goodbye,
Maybe I see you sometimes Commanders.

to reload an Odyssey ground settlement, have to enter super cruise and glide back in... an apex shuttle works great for this. have to use redirect function. (also sometimes works for missing mission objects)

logging out doesn't reset it completely. due to anti exploit measures. "allegedly"

if security spots you they'll attempt a "scan" if you move from the spot
( 2 meters, usually less)
from where they ask you to stop, before they scan you, they'll shoot.

You're better off starting with easy missions only. Once you've gotten used to those, move your way up to the more difficult missions. Take your time with each mission, don't rush in. Also- don't waste credits on the shuttle. You can't check out the settlement layout on approach like you can in your own ship.

Jumping into the deep end head-first is going to be a bad experience, period. The mission you described is "the deep end" more or less.

I'm in the process of outfitting my second commander at this time. I've had to take my time and start out with legal missions, and I've got a good amount of experience at this point. I even transferred a bunch of mats from my first commander, but more were needed. I'm still not quite ready to start the more difficult missions. A few more mats, and I will be. Until then, I'm taking the cautious route.

Settlement reset only requires an entry into SC. Once the SC countdown starts, drop throttle to zero. Exit SC as soon as it begins, roll over, and boost back. Apex won't do any of that.

Re-logging will always eventually make a missing item or NPC spawn, but it may take several tries. That will likely never change, and is considered part of the experience at this point. Re-logging also wipes all lootable items from the settlement. SC reset actually resets the settlement with fresh lootables. Both options have their uses.

If security spots you, they will attempt a scan whether you move or not. Too much movement will get a lethal response, as the big red warning states. Once security decides to scan you, you have two choices: Stop moving laterally (you can turn to face them), or run. If you choose to run, leave the settlement as fast as possible. You might be able to take off before you and your ship are destroyed. Apex is almost useless for this as well. You'll be incapacitated before it arrives.

can i have your stuff before you leave?

Very strange that the monitors turned off after a relog though. And yet the settlement was still powered. Can't say I've had that one.

You got over 8 years of playing. So not so wasted as Star citizen....

Now the other part... You lack experience. For a first time try you got quite for in a difficult mission.
Mission difficulty is not the problem, I understand failure gets punishment and if prison is far away so be it. Like I said, I accept it is my fault, but mission breaking bugs that have been reported in January of 2022 that haven't been fixed in April 2023. Come on man, please!

Yes, after this run-in with the coppers I steer clear when I can, now if only I could see around corners indoor ;) (Yes I know about the radar thing in the corner x3)

Mission difficulty was not the issue, the game not working and experiencing a year old bug is. I got through 100% of the mission it just wouldn't tick off my objective after I had executed it succesfully. I reloaded the area three times by leaving and reentering and the objective marker moved twice and I did it in that order twice. Wasting 3 hours of my time is not how I expected coming back to ED would be.So I just uninstall this mess and wait until there is a worthy reason to return to this game

I think i remember trying some sabotage mission(s?) meself and i could not done it - some similar bug, not able to put the mutagen in or not able to close the container or something like that.

The difference is i like the game enough so i can pass a broken mission type and enjoy the rest of them
Which i do.

Currently there are quite a number of bugs related to Odyssey missions:
  • Post-Thargoid Recovery missions being offered to already powered up settlements (workaround is to check the settlement if it's indeed abandoned before taking the mission)
  • Restore missions not triggering in the same PTR systems if the faction owning the settlement has a negative state that will also result in restore missions with fire and bodies
  • the mission objective not present in the settlemet/poi requiring a relog, sometimes multiple relogs
  • the sabotage missions having the issue you mentioned
and certainly i'm missing some

See, I used to be able to cope as well, but I run a company and have other hobbies aside from gaming. And if a game wastes three hours of my time the first time I boot it in a year I don't have the patience to deal with it. I will probably come back in a year see if they fixed it, or if they ever introduce ship interiors.

And yes, this is not the only Odyssey bug I encountered either. It took them a long time to introduce 'non-lethal takedowns'as well.

I work over 50 hours a week, plus travel time, and have several other hobbies as well. The primary difference is I have much more patience than you apparently do. No disrespect intended, we just have two different personalities. ED is a game I can and do enjoy, but you will probably never enjoy it.

The probability of any of these bugs being fixed is close to zero. Sometimes, it is best to just move on. I recently returned after over a year away, but the reason I left turned out to be hardware-related. I was able to fix my issue on my own. Unfortunately, you can't fix your issue. I hope you find a game that works for you. All I found during my time away was the same mess in different forms. The gaming industry has been on a steady decline since "release it now, patch fix it later" became the norm. Today, the second part is fading away.

why not?? its not like your gona play the game again . unless you are here for the drama your trying to creat.
You, sir, need an attitude adjustment. If you read the rest of this thread it should be more clear for you.

Oof, 50 hours? I hope it pays well, my max is 40 and I am thinking of scaling down just so I have more me time, time > money.
I used to enjoy ED, but the gameplay got stale since it was all samey, Odyssey changed that and made it fresh again. But the amount of bugs in it make it, and thus ED as a whole for me (at this time) unplayable.

The gaming industry did indeed go downhill for the bigger titles with huge names and big studios. But there is a lot of smaller studios these days that churn out beautiful works of art with wonderful gameplay. I've been enjoying Dredge as of late and an happy to report it is almost bug-free! (except for one heavily game breaking bug that they are working on.) Nice talking to you Fixit, I just needed to vent after losing most of my time last night.

I will come back to ED in another year and see what's up, I am still hoping for the ship interior update! :D

Frontier haven't said they are definitely not going to add ship interiors to Elite Dangerous. Don't conflate what a community manager said in response to lots of calls in the chat of a livestream asking for ship interiors for Odyssey with the overall development arc of the game. Ship interiors of the sort that people (including me) want were never coming to Odyssey - it was no shock to me that they weren't in the expansion. But Odyssey is the current expansion for Elite and future expansions are still to come, of which ship interiors may be a part of, depending on resources/time/development priorities.
