Crested Porcupine. Literally the animal that will make this pack a win or “meh” for me. I really don’t care what else is in it so long as this one is.

ETA: After the livestream, taking out the Saiga/Blackbuck and Sand Cat and putting in the Black Rhino and Honey Badger.


Honestly I’d be fine without a Baboon or Dromedary so this sounds about right for how i feel about the last few pack lineups. - 2 to 3 very welcome animals, 2-3 that I know I’ll end up liking, and a couple I would prefer we didn’t get but I’m alright with because they’re highly requested by the community as a whole.


ETA 2 - If this is a global drylands pack, I'm really hoping for a Patagonian Mara as well, but I think that this is probably going to be African Drylands or North African Drylands w/ West Asia/Middle East pack.

Which is fine. It's an area that needs some attention. I only hope that the Amazon Rainforest will get the same attention in time.

We have cold deserts. A huge one. Patagonia. There are also deserts in Chile. And the rhea and the patagonian mara are pretty much zoo staples as well.

And you can go NA focus but at the same time choosing animals that have a pan american distribution like the ocelot, burrowing owl and peccary.

  7. Patagonian mara (South America)
  8. Horned viper (Africa, Asia)
Sorry Australia, but a perentie would be a bit redundant after the water monitor.

Calling that it's an Africa/Safari pack. I think if it were drylands they would have teased at least one non-African species, and the rhino probably wouldn't be in the pack. For roster:

Honestly, I’m kind of hoping this next pack is a dedicated Africa animal pack, only because if it isn’t it likely means the Secretary Bird and Hamadryas Baboon aren’t options anymore. From what we know so far, every species in this DLC is from Africa. Meaning that if it was like our previous biome-based packs, likely all the remaining species reveals will be from other continents (meaning no Secretary Bird, Sulcata Tortoise, or Hamadryas Baboon).

Really hoping that at least a couple species from this pack will have a unique rig and set of animations. Not excited about the options that have been “revealed” so far, except for the porcupine. At this point, a bird that isn’t a ratite or penguin would be a miracle..

What I’m saying though is that if this next pack is a biome pack, likely all the remaining reveals will be from continents other than Africa. Because Frontier has never done a biome-based pack with more than 4 species from the same continent.

Normally, I’d be all for packs focusing on species from different areas of the world, but all the desert-dwelling species from Africa that I personally like didn’t make the cut for this pack. Another rhino, camel, and boxed snake just aren’t exciting to me (but this is just my opinion obviously)

And the only other “unique”, popular, habitat-dwelling birds from arid regions besides the Secretary Bird are the Roadrunner and Burrowing Owl (and unfortunately I don’t find the odds of either of these coming in this DLC very likely)

Exactly! And neither are Dromedary Camels, Crested Porcupines or Horned Vipers. Additionally, a significant amount of the world’s most known desert animals do come from the African continent, so it is likely that in a pack like this we’d get an overwhelming amount of African animals.
