An Idea for the Perfect 2023 Anniversary Animal

But why is everybody expecting a clone? The red deer wasn't a clone
this is true. I think some would argue it's a clone of the fallow deer, but in my opinion it's far better. But in terms of the overall model, it's definitely not what I would call a clone. But I don't think they would go as far as to give out a top 10 animal from the meta for free. But the red deer was pretty high up so... maybe

I feel like the next anniversery gift will be the Ocelot.
If we look at the previous gifts ( BW Ruffed Lemur and Red Deer) we already got 1 primate and 1 ungulate. Moreover they came from Africa and Europe. To keep the Anniversery gifts a bit diverse, the next one ideally should be from a different animal category and other continent. I feel like the Ocelot hits the perfect sweet spot just like the Red Deer.

With the recent announcement of the Arid Animal Pack, featuring a wide range of animals, particularly those of the hoofed variety from arid regions of Africa and the Middle-East. However, with this DLC has also come a little bit of disappointment from the wider community, stemming from the pack's exclusion of the striking Hamadryas Baboon.

So Hamadryas Baboons, for those who don't know, are a large monkey native to the Horn of Africa and the shores of the Red Sea, which also extends their range into a little bit of the Middle-East. Males adorn a magnificent mane of silver hair, and a rather eye-catching posterior. They like many primates eat a wide variety of plant and vegetable matter, but will also consume small animals such as insects, rodents and reptiles. They favour steppes, savannahs and semi-arid scrubland habitat, which would make them a likely candidate for a Highlands or a Safari Pack.

But the Hamadryas, in terms of Highlands, competes with a perhaps more fitting addition to a Highlands DLC, in the Gelada, a relative, but not part of the Papio genus which encompasses all baboons. There are many in the community that would like the Gelada as well as the Hamadryas, but given the Hamadryas' absence from the Arid Animal Pack, the community is having to make a choice between the Gelada and Hamadryas, with many wanting both, of which I am one.

So, instead of making the Hamadryas Baboon a paid animal, instead, make it an anniversary animal, a very welcome one at that, and then we can have a true baboon in the base game, like we now have a base game deer in the Red Deer of last year. That way we can have the potential of all three, Mandrill, Gelada and Hamadryas Baboon, a striking and magnificent trio of large old world monkeys.

Like and comment in this thread if you agree that the Hamadryas Baboon would make a great anniversary animal.
I love everything about this post, and I’m behind this 100%

so because this the need to give us or any bird or African Spurred Tortoise, It's requested, it's clone but at the same time also not I think it can fit perfectly mostly after we didn't got them in the dlc

The anniversary animal is a great little gift for the community and a great call by Frontier, if it was I who was in charge of things I would make a selection out of the top 20 animals on the meta wish list.

I honestly don't think we have enough information to come to a definitive conclusion of what criteria the animal they choose meets. The black-and-white ruffed lemur was a "clone" I guess. I still think it was a really great addition; I am happy we have a third lemur. The red deer is not a clone at all to me of any of the cervids in-game. Sure, it uses deer animations already in game, but then almost every animal in game would be a clone using that logic. I do think whatever we do get won't require very complicated animations or a very difficult model, but I don't think it will be limited to a reskin.

If the hamadryas baboon is the next anniversary animal im gonna eat a shoe.
Thats copium on the next level
@Lydiah Moon this is very relevant for the game's development
Id gladly eat a shoe if that means we get the baboon for anniversary, sadly i dont see it happen.
Currently my biggest hope is for the Spurred tortoise or the black buck, or in the best timeline the squirrel monkey but we just gotta wait and see
I really wanna see you get a boot, barbecue it, and eat with some some BBQ sauce. I want you to record every step
It would be a walktrough animal 'cause thé base game dont have any animal who could go in
So we can get other butterflies ? It's a clone, and people can be happy if they dont have dlc
That's not a bad idea at all

My idea for an anniversary is that it could be anything. I'm just gonna expect the most clone-able animal ever and be happy about it. That way, if it's something like a Mexican wolf, I'm ok. But if it's something entirely different, like a Hamadryas baboon or an American flamingo, I'm even happier

A Baboon isn't the worst choice for sure. Its absence from the Arid pack is strongly felt (and I wasn't even wanting it really).

Other thought - The Wild Boar. They gave us one iconic and high profile European animal last year, why not give us another this year?

Cause variety is the spiece of life

Personally I think something like the Nile Crocodile or American Flamingo is most likely but you never know. They could give us any bird and I'd be happy with it.
My guess would be the Nile Crocodile too. If you exclude the Emperor Penguin and Mountain Gorilla due to their similarities to the King Penguin and Lowland Gorilla, the only base game Zoo Tycoon 2 animals left are the croc and the Musk-Ox. At this point I think they might want to finish adding those base ZT2 animals, and while the Musk-Ox can go in a Tundra-themed pack for example, there's not many pack options that a Nile Crocodile would fit in at this point.

Musk Ox I have a really good feeling about. It can also fit into highlands or Mountains as well.

For me it’s gotta be something that somewhat wouldn’t be well received as DLC/isn’t really warranted as DLC but is still a somewhat important zoo animal. Dromedary and Black Rhino both covered this. I’d most confidently say American Black Bear. It’s an important species but I’m not sure going to be well received as paid DLC given how many bears we have. Another option is the African Spurred Tortoise.

Lastly I’d put forward a couple more suggestions:
  • Blackbuck
  • Sloth Bear
  • Serval
  • Barbary Macaque
  • Common Eland

I think hamadryas Baboon is too unique to be anniversary animal, but I think there are still good contenders I think including:

  • Sulcata Tortoise
  • American Black Bear
  • Nile Crocodille
  • American Flamingo
