What’s your thoughts with support possibly ending soon on flying birds?

So we’re halfway through 2023 and still no flying birds. We’ve gotten some amazing animals along the way and some breakthroughs with butterflies and bats. Although maybe not to everyone’s liking on how they were implemented. We’ve gotten animals people weren’t sure of like a porcupine, sloth, and deep diving aquatic animals but still no flying birds. Me personally I still believe we get a couple flying birds before support ends. Hopefully more habitat birds as well. Another theory I have is we could possibly get a bigger than normal last pack featuring only birds but I guess will have to wait and see. So what are your guys thoughts on the subject? At this point primates and birds are easily the most deprived common zoo animals in the game.

Since we got the walkthrough exhibit I expected us to get birds this time next year once they know what their working with. So while it may still not be super likely I'm betting were gonna get a single bird in the next scenery pack and then like 3 or maybe 5 in the following animals pack (similar ones of course like the butterflies).

Then hopefully after that this pattern would continue throughout packs into next year. But since this next pack was what I was anticipated from the beggining if we get them next I've lost hope.

I don’t think it’s unfair to say the dream is dead and buried at this point. I feel more confident than ever that aviaries, and maybe aquariums, will be the big hook for Planet Zoo 2 come 4-6 years from now, though.
Yeah that’s the thing, I don’t want to wait that long for a feature that can be implemented into Planet Zoo now. Let’s be real here for a second. Walkthrough exhibits already have two flying animals, realistically small birds could easily work on a looped system. I don’t care if it’s looped animation, I would rather have them in game than not at all. When it comes to larger birds, they usually stay on one perch all the time, they don’t move much. The biggest mystery will continue to be the lack of habitat birds, there is no reason we haven’t got a duck, pelican, burrowing owl, Secretary bird, other game birds, etc. They already work in game so it’s a real mystery why so many packs don’t even have 1.

I have hope they are coming, I bet they are probably just ironing out the system more. I hope more birds are coming, lack of birds is starting to hurt my replay-ability for this zoo builder.

Well 3 ways flying birds could go:
  1. Unexpected addition to some dlc pack in the near future which is the most probable way similar to the way everyone reacted to bats. Most likely still won't solve the issue of the lack of birds since one bird isn't gonna change the fact we need dozens of birds to make semi realistic aviaries. Likely poorly implemented into the walkthrough exhibit like sloths were.
  2. Saving some great dlc for the end of the game, some people live by this idea but it's hard to see frontier giving the last dlc to a topic they never seem to be that much interested in. Possibly slow or secret development could explain a later bigger dlc around birds but still 50/50 on this idea.
  3. Birds become the sole marketing piece for planet zoo 2, annoying literally everyone who has zoos in the current game needing birds or even a brand new game centered around birds which would be unexpected
Or we learn frontier hates birds and never happens. By 2025 we get our 12th small cat and ungulates becomes the first group to exceed 100 animals from dlc packs

Honestly, i absolutely hate the idea of birds being safed for PZ2, and for multiple reasons.
If that game comes in say 5 years, i doubt i will even play video games in any meanigfull way by that time, but thats a very personal thing. Also even if i would get the new PZ2, the thought of waiting another 3 years starting at that point to get an compareable amount of stuff through DLC like we have now sounds really tiresome. And given that if you have all DLCs like i assume most people around here have, you have spend close to 200€ and are supposed to start over just doesnt sit right with me.

Most large birds just hang out on perches and maybe glide between them occasionally. They could use the existing climbing system and just apply it to birds, when the bird jumps add some flapping animation BOOM done. Just like how the flamingos "fly."

EDIT to say thats also probably why they're holding off on more monkeys. I think they're working on the climbing system.

I personally won't be mad if birds never come. The game as it is is fine to me. All my wants are in the game.

However, I also would love a pack or 2 with only birds.
Flying birds that require aviaries, while likely super fun, isn't what I NEED. But, I totally wish for more habitat birds, like pelicans

I'm similar to you on this and have kind of accepted that my zoos just don't have an aviary. They have tons of other cool things, though. So, it's not ideal, but still totally fine.

I've already gotten a lot of enjoyment out of the past several DLCs (well...maybe not so much one Halloween-themed one!). Here's hoping Frontier can continue to churn out at least a few more solid packs to round out the animal roster in other ways. Would love to see the odd habitat bird or two sneak in there as well.

Still holding out some hope of waking up one day and reading that a special flying bird-themed DLC is in the works -- I'd even gladly pay more for it too! Just not worrying about it too much.

At this point I'm not expecting birds to be a big feature, as disappointing as it is. We've seen how well birds can work in other comparable games. However, if support ends this year, there would be no point in adding any WE bird at all. After all, what would be a game that ends with two flying bird species? I also don't think it's likely that we'll see another full DLC dedicated to flying birds if support ends soon, because the tendency in the last two DLCs has been to reduce investments in new animations compared to what we saw before. To me this suggests we won't be ending support with a lot of new innovations (unless of course they're saving resources but that feels like wishful thinking to me).

If support continues for another year, I think it's likely that we will get some DLCs with WE birds like macaws, lorikeets, hummingbirds and the like. If done like with the butterflies, this can bode a promising end for a beautiful game. However, even with another year, I still don't think we will see a new mechanism for full flight or any expansion beyond the usual DLCs. As great as this would be, it doesn't seem to be feasible anymore in the current way games work.

Anyway, I have a feeling that Frontier will make the decision whether or not to continue support before releasing the next DLC. If that one contains WE birds, I'll believe we will get some more this year and the next. If it doesn't, I'm probably going to put my trust in modders to add flying birds and I'll add them to my game when support has officially ended.

Maybe it's copium, but I'm extremely sure that Frontier didn't develop the Walkthrough Exhibit system two years after the game release just to give us one bat, one sloth and four butterflies. I'm as confident about WEs being for aviaries as I was the day they were announced.

When the WEs were announced I was sure this was a sign that aviary style birds were coming, so I'm really surprised we still don't have them. My hope is still that Frontier are saving them up to do some big pack with birds etc at a later date but with every DLC announcement my confidence wanes a little...
All of that said, I'm not convinced that support is drawing to a close - I wouldn't be at all surprised if we don't continue to get DLCs throughout 2024 as the game still seems to me to be very popular, so perhaps 2024 will be the year of the birds! Of course, this could be a mistaken impression on my part so who knows.
I feel it would be a shame if PZ "ended" at this point as to me the game feels incomplete without small birds and aquariums etc. I don't want to have to wait for a whole new game when I feel like this game could be (and frequently is) amazing in its own right.

My guess is we will be getting Flying Birds with the WE System they added at the end of last year. They might add a few Size and Design Variations, but that's about it. A more complex Aviary System is perhaps planned for a Sequel, just like it happened in JWE2. Which is fine, and works in the context of the current game.

I honestly think that ship has sailed.
Aviaries would be a VERY popular DLC, and would guarantee a very large amount of DLC sales. Problem is, the longer they wait, the fewer players will be interested enough to buy it. The best time to implement would have been in 2022, soon after the Europe DLC released. I think Winter 2022 or possibly Spring 2023 was the latest they could have released it to really cash in on the big splash of an Aviary DLC.
If they were to release it now, near 100% of current players would buy it, and some previous players would return, but the total numbers are quite a bit lower than they would have been a year or 2 ago.

We all got excited way back when the Red Crowned Crane was announced, and if an Aviary was planned, this would have been the perfect time to gauge interest - and it was quite obvious interest was immense. Yet since then, we have received 31 new animals(I'm counting the butterflies as 1), with only 1 of those animals being a bird, the Emu. And there were plenty of birds that would have fit very well in these DLCs.
We all thought Aviary after the Crane. We all thought Aviary after Butterflies. We all thought Aviary after Bats. We've had 3 DLCs since Bats and 2 since Butterflies, with no flying birds in sight...I hope we do get birds. I just have a tough time seeing any progress at it from Frontier's POV.
They don't seem interested in even providing us with non-Aviary birds. I don't see any reason to expect them to provide us with any flying birds.

I dont need flying birds. I just need birds. Support ending is alright to me. Modders have already supplied a great amount of quality content.
