Stop the grind, please!

Here's a popular site for the Guardian module blueprint.

Additional info

A medium ship with good jump range is best. Fly a carrier there then any ship will do.
Install Point Defence on the top of the ship to take out the Sentinel missiles.
When Sentinels are close, brake on, switch to turret, target Sentinel, fire away.
Sentinels at distance use cover then move back and forth while in turret mode to take them out.
Pickup materials left by the Sentinel wreckage.
Premium Scarab ammo lessens the time to kill but not necessary.
Shoot the towers to gather more materials.
A damaged Scarab can be repaired by docking with the ship.

If desired supercruise out and back to reset the Guardian site.
With two players one flying can take out the Sentinels with the ship's weapons.
Open mode with a player? Fly to the nearest station near the site in case a player decides to kill you.
A nearby station can also replace the Scarab if needed.
After mastering Sentinel kills all Guardian sites are easily completed just different terrain challenges.
I like to park the ship near the Databank (altar on the map) for a short drive after completion.

Weapon and Module blueprints require an Ancient Relic available at the site.
Vessel blueprints require an Ancient Key available from Guardian Beacons in space.
Refer to Cannon Research for a list of sites.

The key is expecting the Sentinels and take them out. You can kill them before they damage you.
As for the grind oh well...thousands of posts on the Forum and Frontier hasn't changed it.

Regards

You are into Exobiology? I'm doing the same just made a post about it. Maybe we will meet or not.

IMHO, the best thing that ED can do for its players is to stop the grind and allow players to purchase upgrades over the counter. I'm 75 years old and have been trying to do the Guardian FSD booster for years, I'm too slow, perhaps I just need to find a younger player with better co-ordination and ask them to come over and do the job for me.

But honestly, the grind is not an enjoyable part of the ED experience and the sooner ED allow the player to purchase upgraded items the better.
As they have just recently done for the fargoid ......... item.
Cheers all
Although I am also old, but you are much older than I am and therefore also played in Elite1, Frontier, FFE. (I think so).
I myself often grumble about the grind, as it is not convenient, the same thing you have to do for months.
But I remember the first games, in fact they are all grind and no more, yes there is a story in FFE and ED, but all this is just to prodolzhalit grind.

Thankyou, I read your post and agree with what your written, As I out in the black on the other side of the galaxy I use the Krait Phantom with a 54 ly jump range, when I get into an area I like I drop the jump range down to the minimum and usually do jumps of 2 or 3 ly.At the moment I am concentrating on biological and leave the geological for another date. Cheers and happy hunting.

IMO this is still the best guide for guardian sites (with sceenshots and lots of details)
You should be able to follow it, or if not - at least to enlist some help from a better skilled commander.

Dear Northpin, thank you for your most comprehensive guide, I'm sure other Cmdrs and myself will benefit from your posting, much appreciate the efforts you have put in to the guide. Cheers. Cmdr D38

What makes Guardian sites much easier is a smaller ship such as a Diamondback Explorer or Asp Explorer with a point defence on top and landing on the edge of the ruins. The point defence takes out almost all missiles.
I took a Phantom the first time - nightmare to land and the point defence location is not ideal - no utility slot on top.
Move your engineered FSD into a Diamondback Explorer and use that. Make sure the ship has shields and leave it with all pips on systems when you go out in the SRV.

Thank you Cmdr for the hints, appricated. Cmdr D38.

Well if Frontier reduces the grind a lot then it would be more fun and accessible for gamers. Purchasing in-game could also be an option, but not for every upgrade.
It would be a lot more accessible. You've no ability to determine what is fun for others. We're largely here BECAUSE of what you consider "grind." Imagine if I claimed that reducing the skill based gameplay in, I dunno, Overwatch or whatever, would make it more accessible and "fun." That would obviously be silly, because some LIKE skill based gameplay. We LIKE accumulating resources through gameplay. Entire genres are built around this preference.

You could also claim that reducing grind would make the game more fun for the majority of gamers, and that would be correct. We are a minority.

ImmerseMe,
Hmm you pose an interesting viewpoint to consider. At least you have posed the reasoning that both the minority and majority enjoy the game for different reasons.
On that point; Lets just agree that each gamer either likes or dislikes the grind.

My thinking is that if ED wants the majority of players to become involved in a war, then why are they making us grind to get suitable weapons and upgrades to deal with mankind's common enemy. Do Government's recruit personal then ask them to outfit themselves to fight a common enemy?.
Kindest regards D38.

We are freelancers, not government employed recruits. We buy our own equipment and sometimes the payment is in exotic components.

the only quip i have is i engineerd my mavericksuit but cant change the mods and have to do another one to mod it another way.its apain as i have to collect more bits and bobs again,o well here i go again lol.

Privateers. Governments used to issue "contracts" aka Letters of Marque for private individuals or groups to outfit themselves and go fight the enemy.

Before that, in medieval times under the feudal system, individuals had the obligation to be equipped with armour and weapons ready to go to war. Even earlier in early Roman and Greek times, citizens had to be available to go to war when called to do so and provide their own equipment.

Grinding might be a bit frustrating at times, but it's also all the more rewarding once you get the price.

If eg. the Guardian FSD module was just available for purchase from the get-go it wouldn't feel even nearly as rewarding has having to go through the relatively long quest to unlock it. Would it diminish the enjoyability of the game if it were available for purchase from the get-go? Probably not. But being locked behind a lengthy grind quest makes it even more enjoyable, because you had to do some actual work to get it, and thus it feels more rewarding when you can now purchase it for your ships.

Of late I can't make myself play Elite any more. Burnout, but also I've missed some months and now I see that to get back into AX, I'd need to much time to get all the new gear I'd need. So, until a big exploration update hits Elite, I'm more or less done.
