So we need "Live" to play Legacy?

Just to verify. We need to install "Live" in order to install Legacy? Can we un-install "Live" after installing Legacy?

You can uninstall any version you’re not happy with using the launcher. I uninstalled all my legacy versions using it. So it’s a case of redownload legacy and remove live

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I tried that a few months ago to get rid of the legacy install I didn't need; but as it was the base game, Steam just re-downloaded it on its next check for updates. When Live becomes the base game, I would expect the same behavior. Uninstalling anything you don't need is pretty much only an option if you only use the Frontier version of the game, but not with Steam.

Correct. I'm not even sure how or if steam could be able to fix it due to them having disabled optional updates.

Maybe fdev could make "arena" the default instead, that way the install is at least minimal if nothing else...

In my experience:
Steam: If Yoy play only Legacy go to Steam game properties and uncheck Odyssey DLC - this step is necessary do avoid downloading all Odyssey content on every update.
Because on Steam Odyssey is listed as optional content (DLC).

From monday onwards, you may be able to remove Odyssey, but you will not be able to remove the Live client in Steam. This worked in the past, because Legacy was the game, and Live and Odyssey were optional as far as Steam is concerned. This is not going to be the case any more on monday. Live will the the mandatory download ("the game"), and Odyssey and Legacy will be DLCs you can select and deselect as you wish. This is my prediction, anyway.

I would be very surprised if it were different, but this goes only for steam. In the standalone Frontier version of the game, you can do whatever you want. Also, it will be interesting how Epic will handle this change, if at all.

I have a mere 50G free on disk and cannot play Legacy because, after the main game is loaded, there simply is no disk space anymore for downloading legacy.
Is there a way around this?
