Standard vs. Premium

I've not bought a Bethesda title before, and I'm wondering if the additional items in the Premium edition are worth the extra cost, e.g. what's the value of a 'story expansion' or a suit skin?
Any opinions?
Nobody other than Bethesda really knows. AFAIK no-one knows anything about the expansion other than that it's an expansion.

'Worth it' is a subjective opinion - if you're scrimping for cash probably not worth a gamble. I've got some extra cash set aside for this because I only have about 7 games in my Steam library after about 10 years and was expecting it to come out November last year, which it didn't. So I've been able to stow away some extra cash while the time has passed.

At the end of the day all it is is a gamble whether you have the cash or not.

Wait, what? -I most certainly hope I'm not hearing you talk about gameplay that can only be had by buying certain editions, and not in any other way..? -Getting terrible flashbacks to LaNoire selling with different exclusive full-fledged case files, depending on which vendor you got the game from... :p

Anyway, I guess even if so, everything will be neatly packaged together in some GOTY, or Legendary, or Retrospective, or whatever, edition, by the time hardware progress-, and modders, and modders' bug fixes, have made it possible to play the game at tolerable frame rates in VR, which is the time I'd be interested. :7

My humble opinion is to buy the base edition and play it vanilla for a few dozen to 100s of hours then add what mods you've researched and like, then look at the expansions available. I like playing the base games for a while to see how the devs wanted it played. after over 2000 hours of X4, I still play it vanilla w/1 sometimes 2 mods.
By the time you play several 100 hours, all kinds of stuff is going to be available ... the variety and quantity is going to be daunting (I hope).

just my $0.02 for the day
Have a wonderful weekend Commanders

I don't think that these will be in any way essential, or impossible to get later on.

I remember after some time playing TES: Oblivion without the smaller DLCs I was somewhat disappointed finally completing the set: Some of the items seemed unneccessary powerful to me, and even though new homes are neat, I am generally more interested in the storage opportunities (of which I had enough already) than the chance to put the useless silverware dishes on the table, risking the physics to throw it around again the next time I went there.
More to do and collect certainly, but everything combined made the world a bit less believable to me.
Unless I chose only one of those for a specific playthrough. It doesn't help that I get the impression that for Bethesda game development, it seems more important to fill a content quota than to create something coherent.

Something to consider with regards to physical additions: Around the time of the Fallout 76 release, there were multiple controversies about the quality of items, either bundled with more expensive editions of the game or at least advertised and or sold by Bethesda to promote it (I remember the bag made from a cheaper material or the rum bottle made from plastic even though it looked like glass in the ads).
But I cannot imagine that they would like to repeat that situation.

I was watching the Starfield Direct again and something dawned on me.
Not only your ship has an interior you can walk around in, when you decide to board an enemy ship you just crippled, that ship also has a full interior.
So I think it's save to assume that all ships you see have fully functional interiors.
Ugh one of my biggest wishes for ED has been added to Starfield, that and so many more things I hoped to see in ED someday.

If everything turns out the way it was presented during Starfield Direct then this game will rock so hard, the best space game ever imo.

Questionable. It's got the soundtrack. If you like it it a deal. Also includes expansion they dint bother telling anything about. Keep that money and invest it. Buy some stock, or fund. By tge time the expansion arrives you have even more base to finance and the liberty to still say no when it's crap.

I think its gamepass or collectors.

Paying full price for digital only is allowing them to win. Its on principle.

Im personally making my own bundle:

  • Gamepass
  • Physical steelbook upgrade edition
  • Limited controller
  • (probably) limited headset.

No kittens killed or maximum exploitation in that combination.

Expansion might be good, artbook pdf?? and digital soundtrack aren't even trying. If you're a streamer or content creator its a must though because you get 5 days early access.

No mans sky with a game built on top? I'll take that.

Also apparently in the city you get around with trains.. heh heh heh There's going to be more tears.
Oh, that's hilarious! It'll be interesting how well SC's (bafflingly robust) funding goes (or withers) once SF comes out.

From the outside it does seem that Starfield has a lot of potential to dent player numbers on several current (and one never to be released) games. Doubly so as it's new, and not ten years old/tired/stale. e.g. I've not really played ED since before Odyssey, not because it's suddenly bad, but because I'm bored of it now.

It is interesting to infer from Todd that Microsoft put the release date back to give Bugthesda time to fix issues. This makes complete sense on every level, so I'm cautiously optimistic for its state on release. There will still be bugs, but hopefully none that ruin the experience.

Oh well, back to Valheim for me, pro tem.

This will certainly be the case- SF takes all the areas of other games do poorly and folds them into a more compact play area while having a very 'hard' (ish :D) sci fi look, along with mod support.

As long as it avoids a CP 2077 / EDO launch debacle its going to be popular.

The aspect that concerns me is the flight-model. I'm very fond of ED in this regard, and very not fond of NMS*. SF looks to be more NMS than ED. But, time will tell.

* It's fine for a game set in space, and good enough. But ED nailed this experience and feel, for me at least.

Space combat is certainly EDs strength. NMS has always been weak in this regard (while being stronger in other aspects). I always felt a bit cheated with ED when the customization did not show externally (eventually morphing into ship kits) so you could see what someone was running- SF seems to really, really nail this and is something that will appeal to tweak nerds. I do feel SF combat is going to feel very much ED POI like rather than ED.

But then its hard to speak ill of a near ten year old game with a spanking new one.

That's why for me ATM Starfield sits in the Goldilocks zone and has the potential to replace both Star Citizen and ED - again, caveat - for me. It's a fresh new space game with SC and ED being out 10 years and one not making final release and the other being released and never really getting places, along with some features that were never really fleshed out and a patchwork crew of different people involved in it's development.

Also, given the three 'broad' categories of game type - single player, co-op or MMORPG - it's single-player and co-op that I am interested in. Really don't care about people I don't know. Another reason that Starfield works for me.

I know for a fact that it will never have some of the things that the other games have got; that's OK. But I want boarding of ships, exploring abandoned hulks, base building, ship interiors, skill trees... A few earth-like worlds with not only different creatures but (apparently) different biomes. Top that off with a story. The end-piece being my equivalent to finding Raxxla. I'm (clearly!) in!

So yeah, it's got my attention. It's a 'new hope' for me, me being a spacer since the 80s.

ED definitely has a very good flight model which adds tremendously to the realism.
NMS flight model is poor, I love the game but space flight/combat is very arcady.
We'll have to see how Starfield Wil perform regarding space flight, what I do love is the damage model seeing chunks of ship flying around when you hit them.

Overall I think the space portion of Starfield could turn out awesome with all the Interactions taking place, random encounters hostile and friendly, combat with boarding!!, docking with large cruisers and stations, etc.
