My thread got full-on deleted

No message from Nightrider-CIG and co though
I can see Squadron 404 :D

True, but naturally Chris has gone for way more than just transitions, claiming combat and other complex gameplay will be possible between servers etc. For great galumphing ships festooned with moving parts, and 1000s of ground troops simultaneously etc.

Just gotta trust his authority on this ;)
People are already happy when the battles go smooth on one server with decent pop.

Wouldn't it be more likely for MS/Bethesda to sue as they will have brought out their game first.. :)

That's a good question, I don't know how actual release vs. developmental marketing etc.. would play into the equation. I don't think it would be as cut and dry as that if one were really get into the legalities of it. I'd say it was more on CIG to show that Bethesda looked at Squadron 42 and thought, "let's do a game just like that" that amounted to copying.

I missed the result of the Ed Sheeran case, and I'm glad it concluded like that, but that case was undermined by the fact that the chord structure was found to exist in prior recordings and therefore was ruled to not be unique enough to be covered, and quite rightly. However, the case of Huey Lewis & The News vs Ray Parker Jr for Ghostbusters is also relevant as in that case, clear similarities could be shown, among other aspects, whch indicated that they had copied unique elements of a HL&TN song when composing the Ghostbusters theme. In other words, generic chords that had a chance to be inspirational without intent to copy is looked at differently than looking at a successful song and then copying elements because they wanted to appeal to the same market with their song.

Therefore, one could make an argument that Bethesda may have looked at the premise of Squadron 42 and then decided to make their own version of it, whether Starfield beat Squadron 42 to market may not be a relevant factor, as the claim would likely be that CIG would lose sales due to the similarities.

However, and this will be the last I mention of it, it is very unlikely as I don't see it as a winning strategy for CIG at this point, more of a hail mary attempt, which, as I initially mentioned, would be a sign that CIG really have nothing when it comes to Squadron 42, as it would be much more preferable to just release it and let the market decide which product was worthy.
Considering CIG showed almost nothing of SQ42, there's very llittle to copy so I don't see how they can claim that.
Microsoft vs Chris Roberts round 2 though, I'd like to see.

Shouldn't Citcon be free for verified backers/pledgers/citizens? They already have all the money to make the game, and using the excess to hold an event where their source of income can get a development live update and try the latest build sounds pretty reasonable.
It would have shown some appreciation for the people who pretty much made it happen.

Sir, you sound entitled and noisy.

As opposed to corporate, profit-driven game development, in which profit is maximised through market segmentation, additional offers and everything else that makes it possible to exploit individual demand curves to their maximum potential, CI's model of community-driven crowdfunding is about maximising profit through market segmentation, additional offers and everything else that makes it possible to exploit individual demand curves to their maximum potential.

Although if anyone wants to help with my latest vid... :)

I'm still struggling to get a clean archive grab of this comedy Twitch text:

They were definitely still using it as late as May 2022 (the RankZone site mirrors all their info). But that's not as impactful for the vid as an actual grab of their official Twitch site :/

(I've cleaned up the image above, and can cobble together a version of how it looked at the time, but want to keep the sourcing as clean as possible really)

EDIT: I'm pretty sure that image is from the refunds sub (I remember going and checking the twitch page at the time, and the screengrab is legit), but the site's a pain to trawl.

LOL, a week's ban for comparing prices of conventions.

Sensitive little souls aren't they?
CIG don't like people comparing CitCon prices to other expos it would seem, because it objectively makes them look a ripoff, and fanboys don't like being shown that they're being ripped off, and CIG don't want them to realise that. It was also popular:

imo it's an automated wikipedia blurb and authored by the community, your pic is roughly the form it was in in 2013 (one of the revisions probably has the exact match) and you can see the process of grind as the paragraph formed collaboratively there.

Yeah, i was just trying my Google-fu, and while i couldn't find it on refunds (Google only returned 2 threads for the month on refunds, which has to be rubbish) it looks very much like the text on the wikipedia page for Star Citizen.

However, i did find this thread and i guess it needs an update!
