IIRC, so far the Wastrel Roberts has:
- Squandered the first $80m by essentially "restarting development" in 2014.
- Siphoned away at least $60m into his personal, family, and friend's accounts, if the UK shell company reflects how the other two dozen shell companies operate.
- Wasted several million on a MoCap studio to rival Andy Serkis' UK based Imaginarium, which he ended up using anyways
- The cost of transporting all the well known American actors to the UK was probably pocket change in comparison
- Burned several million on lawyer fees, thanks to lawsuit triggered by violating his agreement with Crytek, which he then settled for several more million.
- Refactored most in-game assets several times already, as current standards in gaming meet, and then exceed, Chris' "ten times the polygons" 2012 original goal
- Spent who knows how much money on marketing, including lavish Conventions to his own ego.
- Let's not even get into headquarters he's built to resemble those of successful game developers like Bethesda.
Rather than Chris' promise of one dollar pledged equaling five dollars of development, I'd say it's completely inverted: at
best, five dollars pledged has provided backers with
one dollar of development. And it's only grow worse from there, because the longer this game is in development without doing necessary the
foundational work, the more money gets wasted by expensive artists having to redo their own (and other people's) work.
