Lets fix Arid Animal Pack

Two paths--the first is to keep the African theme but rebrand it as a Safari Pack, the second is to keep the desert theme but have it represent deserts around the world.

Safari Animal Pack:
Black rhinoceros
African crested porcupine
Dama gazelle
Grey crowned crane
Secretary bird
Mantled guereza
Sulcata tortoise
Gaboon viper (exhibit)

Arid Animal Pack:

African crested porcupine
Dromedary camel
Addax
Hamadryas baboon
Patagonian mara
Chacoan peccary
Ratel
Budgerigar (walkthrough)

I think they went with North Africa specifically because they gave us an entire theme for it in the African Pack but almost no animals to use it; I guess they decided to give us the species to make the theme more usable. Fully agree they should have named it something like the Sahara pack though.

Honestly it's just the sand cat that bums me out. Not only does it look comparatively bad (and yes, I am aware that some sand cats do look like that), it's the most underwhelming pick of the whole pack.

I still cannot fathom Frontier looking at this theme and completely omitting the baboon. Surely a baboon could be forged out of the mandrill rig with as much effort as it would take to make a sand cat out of the lynx rig or whatever they used.
I had to back to this comment.
Looks like sand cat have completly new animation set according to leaf. Not a single shared animation with old cats (or only few).
Baboon died for this lol.

The Baboon did not die. There is still a chance we get it with another pack, especially when Frontier want to use it as a headlining animal (which would make Sense as it is one of the remaining most charismatic and well known animals) And this was done already multiple times. After Wetlands Pack there we're also voices that the Red River Hog has No Chance anymore as an example.

The red river hog was a shoe-in for a tropical themed pack, and we got it. There's no way Frontier is going to approach deserts separately from "arid" to fit in the baboon.

I agree. Also I hope that the last DLC (whenever it comes) is a kind of global animal pack with at least one last animal from each continent, so the baboon could be the African representative.

Highlands/Mountains should also work for the Baboon. Bad for the Gelada but I think the Baboon would be an ideal Headliner in such a pack.
I'm subscribing to @Markiz's theory that they are looking at climate regions for these packs. Tropical, Arid, Continental, Temperate, and Polar being the main groups. Under this grouping, Hamadryas baboons would fall under 'arid'. This is by no means a guarantee, obviously, but I just don't see it happening.

The gelada, on the other hand, is the monkey I think we'll get. Wildly disappointing, considering it's a pretend baboon and not nearly as ubiquitous, but it has more chances.

Not unhappy at all with this pack. If I could change one animal, I'd probably choose the honey badger instead of the sandcat. Otherwise this is so my pack. Love the desert biome in general and building for hoofstock, so... I'm very happy with it and can't wait to get it :)

Red river hog and wetlands is poor example considering this animal isnt wetland dweller
+ hamadryas baboon is creepy. No way it is going to headline anything
The Red River Hog I Took as an example as there were the same voices within the Forum that it has no Chance anymore after it was Missed Out from the Wetlands Pack. And the Baboon is one of the more known animals and ver charismatic. It definetely can be used as a Headliner. Tasmanian Devil is creepy, too. If Not even creapier. And I see it also as a Potential headliner

Agree. People should accept we are getting gelada in any sort of pack with mountain theme.
Why should they? The Hamadryas Baboon also fits for such a Pack and as Long as we do Not have any information If such a Pack ever happens and which rooster it has everybody is free to speculate which sort of Monkey we could get in such a pack.
I am sorry, but your Post is one oft the definitive Post sort Like "My opinion is the right one and the Others have to Accept that". Feel free to have your opinion and post it here but there are better ways to express it which does not sound as all knowing.

Just because some people did not recieve animals they personaly wanted does not mean this pack is broken :) Is just personal bias. :) I like if people talk what they would have pick, but I do not like to call the pack broken...Very rude to the dev team. It is not a bug that need fixing.
Its not objectively broken, more that lots of people are displeased with the roster. Obviously thats a highly subjective thing and what this thread is about: What you personally would like to see.
Also the Devs should have been very aware of what they were doing, if they put 5 ungulates in a pack they have to expect people who arent into them to be dissapointed.

If so:

North African Animal Pack:
African crested porcupine
Dromedary
Dama gazelle
Somali wild ass
Hamadryas baboon
Sulcata tortoise
Egyptian goose

Desert horned viper

Save the rhino for an anniversary.

I think it's 100% fair to be disappointed in the roster! But just because the roster isn't your cup of tea doesn't mean the pack is "bad" or broken". The animals look great and they're animated beautifully. Some people though seem to have the mindset that the devs should have personally consulted them on the roster. We're all gonna have packs we're less than excited for, and that's fine, nobody is forcing you to buy every DLC.

I don't normally care for hoofstock and I'm super excited for this pack! I was just thinking how we had so very few endemic North African species, I'm happy to finally flesh out that section of my zoo. I feel like with this one Africa is mostly complete but for a baboon species (I'm fine with a gelada too, I think they're more common in zoos and modders can absolutely use a gelada rig to give us other baboon species, they've used way less similar looking animals to make phenomenal mods; the only thing that'll truly disappoint me is if we don't get any baboon-like rig).

As has been said--all of these animals are good individually, but as a package I don't care for them when they don't really address the roster's biggest gaps (birds, monkeys, Latin America).

The only thing that annoys me is that they picked 2 antelopes from the same area. It's like putting a black and blue wilderbeest in the same pack. Just swap the dama gazelle for anything but an ungulate and this pack would be peak.
