The comments suggest generic gamer thoughts on SC still sit somewhere between: 'MASSIVELY DISTRUST' and 'LOL' ;)

Foulest doubter! Everyone knows that every post about SC is worth four about some lower quality so-called "game" and that every penny raised goes to development, where it is worth four times as much as that for some lower quality so-called "game developers". These poor people have never experienced Star Citizen in it's full glory. They do not understand game development. They have never even measured a fidel. They best they can hope for is some kind and generous Commando will share with them a discount code and they will feel the joy of owning their own Idris.

Anything else is pretty alarming.. you should really do a double take if its not either of those.. seriously.. or as salt e mike does, you're caught as secretly part of the cult.

Disclaimer: I haven't backed. I have spoken in comments to backers though.. that was enough.

The comments are a blood bath.
Hope all of you know this is a scam 12 years in the making. I've seen the work they've done so far. Does not look like a game that was 10 years in development. Quests are mundane, planets and hubs are barren, ships and space combat are fine but are carbon copies of elite dangerous. [The biowaste] they promised was groundbreaking and hype about 7 years ago. If it ever releases it will be a huge disappointment and a massive crash grab followed by a "sorry" by the developers.

Do people still think they're going to get half a billion dollars worth of game?

The only thing they're going to get is a copy of chris roberts self granted game development degree. Thanks for paying for my education guys, i owe it all to you. He hasn't even passed the course yet.
IIRC, so far the Wastrel Roberts has:
  • Squandered the first $80m by essentially "restarting development" in 2014.
  • Siphoned away at least $60m into his personal, family, and friend's accounts, if the UK shell company reflects how the other two dozen shell companies operate.
  • Wasted several million on a MoCap studio to rival Andy Serkis' UK based Imaginarium, which he ended up using anyways
    • The cost of transporting all the well known American actors to the UK was probably pocket change in comparison
  • Burned several million on lawyer fees, thanks to lawsuit triggered by violating his agreement with Crytek, which he then settled for several more million.
  • Refactored most in-game assets several times already, as current standards in gaming meet, and then exceed, Chris' "ten times the polygons" 2012 original goal
  • Spent who knows how much money on marketing, including lavish Conventions to his own ego.
  • Let's not even get into headquarters he's built to resemble those of successful game developers like Bethesda.
Rather than Chris' promise of one dollar pledged equaling five dollars of development, I'd say it's completely inverted: at best, five dollars pledged has provided backers with one dollar of development. And it's only grow worse from there, because the longer this game is in development without doing necessary the foundational work, the more money gets wasted by expensive artists having to redo their own (and other people's) work.

And even now some people still think there will be a game. 🤷‍♂️

Given the increased rate of inflation in the UK and US, the money I gave in 2012 will be virtually worthless soon. I'll be getting any output for almost free! ;)
Ah, inflation! I wonder what would happen to yearly sales data if we adjusted for that. Also, good job Citizen Hammy!

If anything, what you just described would be the reason they never finish the game. The longer it takes, the rest of the games industry catches up and passes them, so they need to redetail everything every 3-5 years as well.

I love the fact that we have reached a point where fan-fiction about being a fan of the (currently fictional) game is a thing

How long before the thread is locked?
