Default Download Changes Now Live

Anyone else have to redownload 50gbs worth of data through steam even if they were already using the most recent Live Odyssey 15.2 version?

I had to. Yet, I'm still getting "failed to communicate with authentication server" or issues with access to Commander data starting from the last night, although everything was fine in previous days.

I guess we will probably never find out what exactly makes Steam re-download the game. My update took eight minutes - just the verification pass, boom, done.

Weird.

did this occur on the first time trying to run after the default dl change?
do you have ed set to high prio update in steam?

Mine verified files then started re-downloading the whole game, the only thing that comes to my mind that could've caused it is that I have Horizons on Steam but Odyssey purchased through Frontier store.

huh. I thought that would not work, having the DLC from a different source than the base game.

Yes, same problem here, I have to download 50GB on Steam.
It was unexpected.
I am a non-Odyssey owner, but I had only the 'Live' game installed (the 'Legacy' game was not installed).
So, I expected only a file verification as explained here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/changes-to-elite-dangerous-default-download.617756/
However, here is the result:

It is downloading 50GB :(

With my Internet in France on fiber, I can reach 125MB/s.
Here, I was limited to 65MB/s not sure why.
I remember my good old Internet on ADSL was only 2MB/s maximum, so I can't complain.

The more who download the file at the same time - the more likely you will be throttled to meet demand evenly depending on the regional backbone you are tied in to.

Something many overlook - just an FYI note.

I'm down the street from Valve's (Who runs Steam) primary backbone (they are HQ'd here in Seattle) - even I hit 65-125ish/MBs when it comes to downloads at times.
